Harry Potter Is Recession Proof

Well, Harry Potter is certainly proving to be quite the monster hit!

The film earned $58.4 million in the U.S. box office on its first full day of domestic release.

That placed the film second for a Wednesday release after Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen's debut of $62 million.

The Dark Knight is still the number one Wednesday opener of all time with $67.2 million.

      i havent seen any of the Harry Potters, but im thinking about watching them all, but i dont know whether to or not??

      Harry Potter needs to outbeat transformers. I saw it yesterday and it was soooo sad but so good!!! If you haven't seen it yet you NEED to see it!

      I think this one may of been my favorite or one of them anyway… idk I like them all a lot. I just REALLY liked the amount of screentime Tom Felton got in this one. lol. I thought it was surprisingly a LOT like the book. I kept thinking, okayyy this happens next so please be in the movie… and it always was. So the movie definitly did not disappoint.

      Definitely read the books first. After like, the first two movies, there's stuff left out of the movies that makes them pretty confusing to non-readers! And the books are better, anyway!

      Awesome!!! And it's not even the weekend yet. Im sure that's when the big bucks are going to come in! I've already seen it twice and I can't wait to see it atleast 3 or 4 more times! :D

      Well Perez, that isn't a fair judgement call to make as you said it was only from the US box office. It opened in Canada as well on Wednesday and I wonder if you included the Canadian numbers in that figure. Who knows, it might have surpassed Transformers!!

      You should. I mean if you don't like them then you're just right back where you started so there's not much to lose.

      But the first experience is always the best. The story really is amazing and the movies are really just a fraction of the WHOLE thing, but they're still awesome. So I definitely recommend it. There's a critic somewhere who's watching them all for the first time and documenting it and he was surprised by how much he LOVED them. :P

      Re: Shezzzz. – Read the books (if you haven't already that is) then watch the films. Both are worth it. They leave so much out of the books and add so much into the films you may get a bit annoyed sometimes.

      The fact that Americans can so freely gather up millions of dollars to go see a fucking Harry Potter movie make me sick to my stomach. What Rowling should do is have $1 from each movie ticket sold go towards a charity or cancer research. Do you know how many millions would be made? And yet there is still a recession, people are unemployed, and children all over the world are starving to death. But thank god for Harry Potter!!!! Ugh.

      Warner Bros.' "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" grossed a magical $58.4 million from 4,275 theaters as it opened Wednesday at the domestic B.O., including a potent $22.2 million in midnight shows.

      Film was pacing well ahead of the $44 million earned by "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" on its opening Wednesday exactly two years ago. "Order of the Phoenix" posted a five-day opening gross of $139.7 million.

      "Half-Blood Prince's" midnight runs were the best ever for any film, besting the $18 million earned by Warners' "The Dark Knight" last summer, as well as the $16 million grossed by Paramount's sequel "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" earlier this summer

      in parts i wanted to cry, in others i wanted laugh so hard and i even thought it was spooky

      Truthfully, it's the worst one yet. I mean I still liked it but I didn't love it. Kind of bland, it was. The Goblet of Fire is the best one so far, IMHO.

      it was good and did follow the book.
      however i liked the book better
      but i did like the movie and yea it
      was kind of sad it made me shed a tear
      or two. but i liked it but i say the books
      are all still better.
      i think the movie will be better to
      people who havent read the book.

      I LOVED the movie. It's a bit different from the book but it works. So sad the end a little different too but it was good. Definitely better than Transformers.
