Summer Box Office Sales Might Break Records!

Well, looks like the recession's got nothing on summer box office sales, because this year is shaping up to be a record breaker!
Summer 2009 has managed to churn out a string of consistent hits. According to industry reports:
– The Transformers sequel always was viewed as the season's top grosser, but almost nobody thought it would rake in as much as it has.
– Paramount's franchise reboot Star Trek wasn't seen as a $200 million-plus domestic grosser before its release, given the franchise's then-moribund state. Although it has rung up less foreign coin (about $125 million) than at home, it has overachieved compared with past Trek movies.
– Before the release of Up, one Wall Street analyst said early clips suggested Disney might have an underachiever on its hands. Turns out the release has been the second-best Pixar performer to date, behind Finding Nemo. And they say nobody knows anything in Hollywood.
– Warner Bros. greenlighted a sequel to The Hangover before the Todd Phillips-helmed comedy even hit theaters, but $200 million-plus? Now that's a guilt-free hangover.
In fact, the summer season is only in its third month (The season ends with Labor Day) and though some films have underperformed, one has yet to fall flat on its face.
Of course, there is still some time for failure!

yay i love dan rad!
love it! hp?
THAT BECAUSE THERE'S NOTHING FUCKING GOOD ON TV THIS SUMMER….
i really thought this movie was gonna bomb, because twilight is kinda the new thing and harry potter is so played out, but i guess the nerds who love that shit will b there forever lol
My money's on GI Joe to completely flop, it looks terrible, and it's a bleh premise.
WOAHHHH Twilight will NEVER surpass Harry Potter classybroad. Did you see the movie? the movie was THE WORST. Hp will always be amazing
are they not counting Land of the Lost as a flop? Cause even though it was pretty funny its only made 50 million tops here in the US
I went to go and see this today, bit confused because i havent read the book but thought it was quite good, lthe cinema was packed !
the movie was not that great. The ending was terrible
Wait, it was you, Perez, who deemed Land of the Lost the summer's first big flop … and what about One A.D.? That did pretty bad as well
This movie has great special effects in it. Plus it's a long movie. But, it's very good.
i love harry potter! just seen the movie today! long..but still good much more action then "twilight"
I went and seen this movie today in Times Square. Most of the theaters were sold out. Waited 45 minutes in line inside the theater. And then…finally seen this movie. I wassss extremely disappointed. This movie is NOOOOO way like the other movies. It was WACKKKKK and totally over hyped. A few laugh moments but that was it. Not even the diehard Harry Potter fans were impressed. At the end of the movie no one even made a sound…**cricketssssss chirping!!! It was really weird. Only upside to this..is that Dan Radcliffe looked really good. But honestly if I were you..save your money..see this one on DVD.
the other hp movies are better. this one was so fucking long
I thought you liberal douchebags were all broke due to the "horrible economy", or is that another left wing lie out of your stinking pieholes? Looks like you have plenty of dough to buy $10 tickets to crap like this. No money for health insurance, but plenty of money to watch this gay shit!
Re: mocus1 –
You're a dick. What does this have to do with liberals, anyway? I'm sure conservatives are out seeing movies, too, you ignorant ass.
Herminie has boobies!
Wait til New Moon comes out.. It will blow this movie away
It's not hard to conceive that instead of being able to afford $200 concert tickets that people are buying $10 movie tickets instead. Thus why many concerts are being cancelled or downsized and movies are doing so well. It isn't rocket science…
