Tito Jackson seems to be the leader of the pack, and today, he is discussing his brother Michael Jacksonexplains that Michael's dancing not only made him an icon, but also helped him escape a beating or two from his "belt-wielding" father Joe Jackson: "Most of the time Michael was so quick my father couldn't hit him. He'd swing the belt and Michael would be over there, he'd swing again and Michael would be over here. My father used to just stop and laugh because he couldn't hit him. Michael would just dance around him. My father would get tired and give up."

OK kids, Michael Jackson and I are the same age. I am not excusing any abuse he suffered as a child. The fact that he worked so hard from an early is abuse enough. But in context it isn't unique. When we were kids we played on concrete playgrounds, were driven in cars without seatbelts with parents smoking and we got whipped. It's a miracle so many of us survived. Poor Michael was a stone cold addict and he now joins the ranks of Marylin, Jim Morrison, Janis, Jimmy, Elvis, Jerry Garcia and lots of old friends who didn't make it. Sad that we can't figure out a way to keep our icons alive.
Joe Jackson was at the memorial in gary and got pissed cuz no one would cheer for him when he came on stage. They had two different people introduce him and they were practically begging everyone to cheer, stand up, give the guy the finger ANYTHING! I think the only reason he showed up was so him and Gary mayor Rudy Clay could work out a deal on cashing in on the proposed Jackson 5 and Michael Jackson museum. Why else would Joe show up at that memorial service? It didn't get much coverage and was poorly put on. Joe's gonna milk his poor son for every last penny. And Rudy Clay is right on board for that plan.

I think it's terrible what his father did, but I think perhaps it's a healing process of "laughter through pain" or as Truvy from "Steel Magnolias" says, "Laughter through pain is my favorite emotion" he's just telling a story of how shitty the dad was to all of them and trying to find the light at the end of the tunnel by saying, Michael was too quick.
