President Obama On Cronkite's Passing

President Barack Obama has released a heartfelt statement touching on the death of legendary newsman Walter Cronkite. Interestingly, the Prez failed to release a proper and effusive statement like this when Michael Jackson died.
Cronkite passed away on Friday from the newsman's long struggle with cerebrovascular disease.
Says President Obama:
For decades, Walter Cronkite was the most trusted voice in America. His rich baritone reached millions of living rooms every night, and in an industry of icons, Walter set the standard by which all others have been judged.
He was there through wars and riots, marches and milestones, calmly telling us what we needed to know. And through it all, he never lost the integrity he gained growing up in the heartland.
But Walter was always more than just an anchor. He was someone we could trust to guide us through the most important issues of the day; a voice of certainty in an uncertain world. He was family. He invited us to believe in him, and he never let us down. This country has lost an icon and a dear friend, and he will be truly missed.

As much as I disagreed with Bush, I defended him against people who said rude things about him because he was our President, and the most American thing you can do is support the President.
I loved him as well as anyone. But…he was a member of The Bohemian Club, as chronicled in Vanity Fair…a group of right wing, government connected men in some sort of erotic bonding thing that goes on in CA in the woods. Read it yourself if you doubt it. These men, evidently, help draw up laws that for all intents and purposes, help the CA redwoods but, according to the article…actually help destroy them. Sorry, but I read it and can only assume.

I don't even know how you can compare Walter Cronkite to Michael Jackson. Cronkite was a dedicated and trustworthy news journalist who heavily worked in the journalistic political spectrum for many decades, so it makes sense for President Obama to make a statement about his passing. Seriously, I know that Michael Jackson was important to pop culture and I remember my thriller days fondly but to think that the president should make some heartfelt comment for a man he did not know and who was in the end, is just a celebrity is ridiculous. You may feel differently since you have become a bit a celeb yourself but I for one, am pleased that our president knows the difference between a spoiled celebrity and a man who documented and influenced American/ world history for over 50 years.

The President didn't release a statement of this magnitude for MJ because Cronkite wasn't a public "flake", still under suspicion of pedophilia due to his own words and statements, and, quite frankly, loopy in every way. Let's be honest, Walter Cronkite was the opposite of Michael Jackson. Jackson was never the voice of the nation. He never set the standard. He wasn't "there" for wars and riots. Is this really a story worthy of being published? Comparing the importance of dead celebrities is really crass, even for you, Perez.
