Amazon vs. Barnes & Noble: It's War

Say goodbye to the Kindle and hello to the Plastic Logic Reader.
Somehow, we like the name Kindle better. But Barnes & Nobles doesn't care. They're out to take Amazon.com's thunder with their own electronic bookstore.
B&N will soon offer its customers electronic books to purchase with the ability to read them on computers and other handheld platforms.
According to B&N, they will provide access to more than 700,000 titles within the next year, trying to make itself the world's largest eBookstore.
They'll also be providing exclusive content for the new Plastic Logic eReader device which hits the US market next January.
What do U think? Are U an eBook lover?

this is simply sick
No, I like the real thing.
VERRRRY convenient
i like this idea.
only if they're free! …but I also agree with the squirrel, I prefer the real thing
ebooks suck…I like real books.
i have a kindle and its the BEST!!!! i read more now than i did before i had it and i dont have to worry about storage with the kindle. books r also cheaper = )
I love the real thing. It's such a pleasure to curl with a great thick book, with my puppy snuggling next to me with her bone.
Ick, no. Nothing like holding a paper copy in your hands. I really dislike reading on anything electronic. Can't we just leave some things alone??!!
Not an eBook lover, but I think it's cool to make available to people that prefer online books. If they can do both, that'd be great! Just don't make regular books become extinct!!
They will average 9.99 a book and no this is not in effort to put its brick and mortar stores out of business. That would be cuttings off their nose to spite their face. It is just to keep up with popular demands.
Smart move on their part but I like the real thing
I hate eBooks! Prolonged reading from a computer screen makes me feel weird.
The iPhone has a free Kindle app so you don't have to buy the Kindle at all. Just the books. It's a great way to eliminate paper and go green. The best thing is- I always have my phone so I always have a book to read while standing in any line.
If its cheaper I'll defiantly buy it at Barnes and noble!
Actually, ebooks are a better way for Barnes and Noble/Amazon to make more money on books. There is so little profit margin on books (that's why Barnes and Noble rarely has a sale) that they need some way to combat it. The license to sell an ebook is way cheaper than the cost of selling the actual book. Thus, more profit. Simple economics.
Funny you posted this on your site, Mario. Most of these morons don't pick up books these days, unless they are about fucking vampires. Ebooks SUCK!!! Pick up the REAL thing and take a break from technology for a bit.
Showing up second to the party did really well for the Zune and Microsoft's music service.
cant beat the kindle. i love a real book too, but on the kindle the books are at least 2 dollars cheaper and its not a black and white screen, so its not bad for your eyes. but we shouldnt have to cut down on books to save the earth! they are actually useful!
OMG I am so excited to hear the kindle is getting some real competition! I have wanted one for a long time but the price! Hopefully this will be more affordable and a better deal…can hardly wait to learn more!
i think the people who are chosing the cast for twilight suckss; they pick the worst people[ kristen stewart is a horrible actresss]
Umm I'll stick to real books. The Kindle is such a dumb invention.
this has some advantages .I think this is one of the few articles that are more respectable. Perez you are no Walter Cronkite or Edard R Murrow(and unforuntately there are blogs which are worse than you and are a complete opposite of these two men),Actually far from them. hopefully one day you will be a 1/10 of these men.
Who would want to sit and read a book at their computer? No thanks. The Kindle is pretty cool, but I really can't see myself ever paying several hundred bucks for anything like that when I could just read a damn book from a library or used book store. Free and/or cheap sounds a lot better to me.
I am not into the whole ebook thing… I love reading and part of the love is the whole book, not just the words. I love the weight of the book in my hands, and the smell of the pages as I turn them… There is something so much more romantic about books.
I got a free e-book once and my eyes got sore reading it. Dumbest idea ever! Amazon is awesome, their books are always cheapest and they have free shipping! I highly recommend! I always shop amazon.ca!
I love my Kindle, and I have found myself reading more with it since I can get books on the fly and can carry several in my bag and not get weighted down. The digital paper screen is very different than reading it on the laptop or the iPhone as it's not backlit and doesn't strain your eyes. Don't get me wrong I love reading good old books as well, and there still are quite a few books that I have wanted to read that are not available on the Kindle, but I have recently reread a lot of the classics as they were available for free on the Kindle, and not at the bookstore. I have also found a few authors that I probably wouldn't have picked up if they hadn't been giving the book away for free on Amazon. Hopefully, the competition will bring down the prices and allow more books to be available.
nnnnnnnnnnnnnOOO!
not doing it!
books - REAL books - are where it's at. Yeah, let's just sit and cozy up around the fireplace with some hot chocolate and a good Plastic Logic eReader.
Yeah, right. Lame.
I think there truly is no need for electronic books. Although i see a convenience to it ::somehow::
Anyway, i really like the real thing better. I love the smell of fresh new books and flipping through the pages. I will never buy an electronic book!
I LOVE my Kindle. I can go through a paperback a week, and I have no need to have all those books laying around my house, or filling up my bookshelves.
I took it traveling this summer, and it was great not to have to lug 3 or 4 books in my carry-on, and it was much more convenient to read on the plane.
I don't miss the feel of reading a real book, either. The screen LOOKS just like a real book, and after about 3 seconds you forget that you're looking at an electronic screen.
As for the price, the books are cheap enough that you eventually make up the cost. I got mine as a gift, though, so even better!
If it's a classic book that I really love, I will read the real thing, but for the books I read as paperbacks, this is much better.
Nope, i rather read bOOks
It beats carrying around a big bulky book. But they definitely should make the readers cheaper and in color.
I'm a bit skeptical. I like holding a book in my hands, but boy this sounds great for when you're on the road.
I won't buy anything from Amazon because they sell magazines with animal fighting ads so if Barnes and Noble's device is any good, I'll probably get one.
kirtasbooks.com is way better than both!
Oh GOD! And I just bought a Kindle! Those are really expensive and there are quite a few books I'd love to have on mine that aren't available… urrrghh… fuck you, Barnes & Noble!! D:
I think this is a good thing. I love reading books and even pay extra for Hard cover but bbeing able to read anywhere without having to use up our resources (trees) sounds pretty good to me.
