J.Lo's Strict Anti-Balloon Policy!!!

The kids could choke?!

Jennifer Lopez received a beautiful surprise for her twins, Max and Emme, on the Tribeca set of her film The Backup Plan.

You bet she refused it!!!

Neighborhood store Balloon Saloon sent over two bunches of balloons for the twins, but J.Lo's bodyguard instantly denied the gift! They returned it back to the store.

How rude!

Guess the diva has a fear of toys and anything that brings her children happiness!

We can't wait for their teenage years!!!

      what a bitch.

    2. 2

Balloons have latex in them, people can be highly allergic, including children.

    3. 3

Children that age aren't supposed to have balloons. They may chew on them and pop them. That is a really bad choking hazard and it is almost impossible to get a popped balloon out of the wind pipe. J-lo was just being a responsible parent.

    4. 4

Hmmm….probably because Balloons are deadly to small children! Maybe the store should have been just a little bit smarter.

    5. 5

yea what happened with JENNY FROM THE BLOCK??????????????

    6. 6

don't assume so much. maybe the kids are allergic to latex.

    7. 7

Children that age aren't supposed to play with balloons. It is a choking hazard because the child might chew the balloon and it would pop. It is almost impossible to get the balloon debris out of a child's windpipe. J-Lo was being a responsible parent. Good for her.

    8. 8

Perez (or whomever wrote this) you are the STUPIDEST person EVER. Balloons are a HUGE choking hazard for infants and toddlers. And I am not even an uptight parent and I never, ever allowed my child to play with balloons. She would immediately put it into her mouth (like all children do) and they pop, therefore shooting latex pieces down their throats to block their airway.

Do goddamn research! Because you would be the first person to call her a piece of shit if one of her kids died from choking to death from a piece of latex. And any balloon company should know this…

    9. Pepa says – reply to this

      9

She is such a ghetto latina. She can't even speak Spanish properly. She ruins our beautiful language. It offends us who speak properly.

    10. 10

A bitch? It was the BODYGUARD that refused the balloons. Probably any gift would have been denied but it's JLo's kids, her call. And yes, kids have died from balloons. The latex got stuck in their throats and they suffocated from lack of oxygen.

    11. 11

Im a florist and were not supposed to send them to the childrens wing at the hospital because of the choking hazzard… I hope she at least thanked them for the thought!

    12. 12

Fool. Children below the age of five or six aren't supposed to have balloons. And have you considered the possibility that either she, or one of her children, have an allergy to latex?

    13. 13

      Re: Sawyer425 – well said.

    14. 14

It makes sense.. balloons are sooo easy to break into several pieces, and all it takes is one peice being swallowed. She's busy working so she cant keep her eyes on the kids 24-7 like I do when my son has a balloon!! Leave her alone!

    15. 15

Really none of your business. She must have a reason. I don't think she would just be mean to them.

    16. assie says – reply to this

      16

Balloons can be really dangerous, especially fro little ones. She's smart not mean.

    17. 17

pobres niños y sobretodo pobre niña tan FEA!!!

      UGLY UGLY BABY

    18. 18

we have a no balloon policy in our house too…they scare me, and our son isnt aloud to have them either.

    19. Suze says – reply to this

      19

aside from them being a hazard to the toddlers, they're terrible for the environment.

    20. 20

Actually, PEREZ - balloons are a huge choking hazard. Our friend's son almost died in our house from choking on a balloon. Stop being an asshole. Ever since you get hit, you've been really mean. Bring back the love, man.

    21. 21

Yes, think that there might have been a reason, Numbnuts, that the balloons were refused. You are so clueless.

    22. 22

SHUT THE FUCK UP PEREZ! YOU SAY SOME STUPID SHIT! THEY ARE TOO LITTLE TO BE ANYWHERE NEAR BALLOONS. SHE'S A DAMN GOOD MOTHER FOR THAT! YOU GET ON MY DAMN NERVES SIOMETIMES.

    23. 23

I want to put J.Lo's balloons in my mouth and then explode on them.

    24. 24

Perez, you're can be such a dumb douche. CHILDREN UNDER 5 YEARS OLD SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED AROUND BALOONS. IT'S A CHOKING HAZARD. Any reputable florist SHOULD know that. Plus you have no idea if those balloons have listening devices or it's a bomb. Hello!!! Recently that blond ESPN reporter had a spying device in her hotel and they video taped her nude. DUH!! So, J.LO WAS smart!!!! She is a celebrity and you have to becareful!

    25. 25

FYI…as a parent I too kept my young kids away from balloons as they are a major choking hazard if they pop!!!!

    26. 26

…Perez, many people are allergic to latex. Your lips must not have a reaction but children need to be kept safe. "Bless The Beasts and CHILDREN".

    27. 27

maybe the kids had latex allergies. or maybe they were worried something was inside the balloons?

    28. 28

Poor kids look like their Dad…. awwhhh

    29. 29

All the people saying kids shouldn't have them is absolutely right. Anyone with an ounce of common sense should know that. Knowing your reporting style though, in a few hours you will just pop an "UPDATE: not true" at the bottom and act as though you still have what it takes to get the good stories.

    30. Laury says – reply to this

      30

Okay, I admit I was about to call her a bitch, but reading everyone's comments, I now understand that this gift was stupid.

    31. 31

      Balloons are dangerous and polluting.

    32. 32

I would have refused the gift as well.

What are the chances of one of those balloons popping and creating a choking hazard for one of her children??

Kids that age get into EVERYTHING.

    33. 33

Well, I see that everyone already educated you on the fact that ballons are a choking hazzard for young kids - YOU STUPID FREAKING MORON. Of course she refused them.

Maybe for once you should think before you criticize people - i.e., before YOU ARE SO RUDE - YOU ARE AN A-HOLE.

Every day you prove yourself to be a bigger and bigger idiot and moron. Keep it up, the clock is ticking on your pathetic 5 minutes of fame.

    34. 34

Maybe shes already had a bad experiance with them…

    35. 35

Those balloons as gift were surely not intended as toys but probably as an ornamental present, it's obvious kids that age should not be playing with balloons but that doesn't mean you can have them as an ornamental gift somewhere in the house or else. The people at Balloon Saloon were not stupid for sending balloons, were VERY STUPID for ever considering to have a nice detail to such a bitch like her. So sad she "represents" latina women, such a scumbag…

    36. 36

Hello Perez, balloons are dangerous for kids, they can very easily bite them and then choke with one simple breath in…boom, stuck in throat. She did the right thing.

    37. 37

She's 100% correct. I have family friends who had their infant tragically choke to death after putting a popped balloon in her mouth and choking to death. Perez, you are as ignorant as you are tacky. This must be a slow day for "gossip" because you are simply picking on a responsible parent. Maybe you wouldn't be too quick judge if you were able to have children of your own. Its also disgusting that you post pictures of celebrities' children on your site. Leave them alone the kids' didn't chose to be in the spotlight. People will soon think that you're a pedophile!

    38. 38

My sister will not let her daughter have balloons, someone we know lost their sibling at a young age because he choked on a balloon.
JLO is smart, and its best not to even show the kids the balloons because then they want to play with them. good for JLO being a responsible parent

    39. 39

      fucking hoe

    40. 40

Balloons can be quite dangerous to children that age, if they happen to pop and the kids swallow a piece. With that said, I would have still accepted the balloons and then would have disposed of them or put them out of reach.

    41. 41

It's a STUPID gift for kids that young.
Gawd, Perez, why don't you ever look at both sides of anything?
Besides that fact that balloons equal paper bags when it comes to the danger factor as toys with kids that young, but one of the twins could have a latex allergy, which can be deadly.
One of my kids is allergic to latex and just touching latex will put him the hospital for days! That's why balloon are banned in hospitals!! It`s a very common, very dangerous allergy.

And even if the kids were older there is no reason why JLo should accept a gift. Just because you are famous it doesn`t mean that you have to say yes to everything that is thrown at you.

    42. 42

      Re: arieldaddy
Oh yeah, big bitch *eye roll* She cares about the safety of her kids. So horrible of her.
Don`t make asshole statements, arieldaddy. you clearly know as little as Perez does when it comes to parenting.

    43. 43

J.Lo is being responsible. I have a 6 month old daughter and I really fear balloons and plastic bags.

    44. 44

i just had my first baby in december and even the hospital has a NO BALLOON POLICY!! They pose all sorts of hazards plus allergic reactions.

    45. 45

Balloons are not appropriate for small children - and perhaps the "Balloon Saloon" was looking for free publicity because of a small gift. Celebs aren't obliged to allow themselves to be whored out for the price of a few balloons.

    46. 46

Hey Pea-brain Mario once and awhile try to see the bigger picture. Its the 21st century and balloons are toxic and totally unnecessary, kinda like you!

    47. 47

my god you guys are so stupid. balloons are dangerous to children, particularly when they pop. they are banned from licensed daycare facilities. mylar balloons are fine, but latex balloons are dangerous, loud/scarey when they pop, and choking hazards- not to mention the potential allergies, which are only a tiny bit of the reason that MOST good parents don't want their kids to have latex balloons. god, you guys are so fucking stupid it's embarrassing and enraging.

    48. 48

You're all stupid. I don't think she refused the balloons b/c of the choking hazard. She refused the UNSOLICITED gift from an UNKNOWN establishment. She's a celebrity; there are lots of wackos out there that might send seemingly nice, but ultimately dangerous gifts anonymously. The right thing to do? Refuse all unknown gifts.

    49. 49

So, J.LO is suppose to give this stupid florist publicity even though they've basically attempted to kill her kids. HOSPITALS DO NOT ALLOW BALLOONS! BALLOON SALOON IS STUPID, IRRESPONSIBLE AND PUBLICITY HUNGRY!!!!

    50. 50

God, that poor baby looks like her father.

    51. 51

and yes, J-Lo was just being responsible. Balloon shop should have known they were too young.

    52. 52

Perez I think the cum in your ass is blocking your brain. Its comforting to know that you'll never be able to have kids of your own. Unless of course you pull a Clay Aiken or trade an ipod for Bruno's Gayby.

    53. 53

      J. Lo is correct. There have been deaths attributed to balloons popping and a piece becoming lodged in the windpipe. My kids are way past that point in their lives, but I did the same thing. Good for her.

    54. 54

Maybe someone there was allergic to latex. Don't be so quick to judge.

    55. 55

Omg before she was "jenny from the block", she was jenny from the block in the bronx. I know she probably had "balloons" around her when she was a kid but now that $$$ she thinks she's above things. And balloons are only dangerous if the kid is exposed to it when its deflated and obviously chewing on the damn thing. Why else would there be ballons at kids birthday parties?!?! Omg ppl need to stop being afraid of things!!!

    56. 56

I lost two childhood friends when I was around 6 they choked on balloons. It affected me for a while. Then when I had my children I had balloons but always busted and threw them away I never let them play with them. Yes, they
are pretty and gay! But, they are also deadly!

    57. 57

      Re: Sweetness24
You are INCREDIBLY wrong about the dangers of balloons. Learn a thing or two before posting about stuff you know nothing about.
BTW, just because some parents are idiot enough to have balloon at parties for small kids does not make it appropriate,

    58. 58

Dumb ass! Small children choke and die on balloons! If they pop while they have them near their mouths (where everything goes with little kids), they can get in their throats and be almost impossible to get out.

Balloons shouldn't be given to any small kids. She was just being a good parent!

      Perez, you are an ass!

    59. 59

I'm very sorry to see the children look like Marc Anthony and not like her. But re the balloons - they can be dangerous for toddlers. It was her call.

    60. Jai says – reply to this

      60

      That's one ugly baby.

    61. 61

Are you seriious? Do you REALLY think that she wouldn't want toys or for her kid to have fun? C'mon Perez - you're really stretching here.

    62. 62

Balloons are horrible and dangerous for kids, animals and for the environment Perez!! What fucking planet are you on?? Don't you know ANYTHING>>>

    63. 63

Balloons are abhorrent things. They don't degrade, and they cause pollution during the manufacturing process.

She isn't worried about any of that; she had kids with a smoker! A smoker who was already father to five. Then she proceeded to not breast feed. So it's not their health she is worried about. As a celebrity, she is smart to refuse gifts.

she has nice fake teeth though.

    64. 64

actually she most likely denied it because balloons are not safe to be around children they are a chocking hazard so she is not a bitch she's simply protecting and keeping her children safe.

    65. 65

      ugly kid

    66. 66

Balloons are DANGEROUS to babies. They contain latex (many people are allergic) and even if she put the balloons up so the kids couldn't reach them if one popped or lost pressure and sunk down to grabbing height the kids could choke and die. Yes, really. And don't even get me started on the RIBBONS those balloons are tied to.
Sweet gesture. They just didn't think it through. She should still send a thank you card but she did the right thing.

    67. 67

The people who posted the responses saying that balloons are unsafe for young children are right. I am a PreK teacher, and I would NEVER allow balloons in my classroom. Many schools even ban balloons altogether, since balloons can be a huge liability for them. I know it's not common knowledge, but people really do need to get the word out about this one!

    68. 68

Dang, Perez, you obviously don't have kids. Some kids are allergic and some kids are afraid of them. She obviously knows her kids and you don't. I like the way you some of these people who comment just to conclusions without knowing anything about children.

    69. 69

You freaking idiot! My kids are 5 and 9 and I absolutely HATE when someone gives them a balloon. the Damn things ought to be outlawed. They are a choking hazard–esp to children as young as JLo's are. People should not just assume it is okay to give someone else's kid a gift without first checking with the parents. Good for her!

    70. 70

I am very familiar with Balloon Saloon in Tribeca. Not a nice store for kids. Originally only sold balloons and sex toys but when a real upscale kids toy store moved into the neighborhood after 9/11 (very much needed) the Balloon Saloon tried to sabotage the store. It has tried to be a competitor, but it cannot hold a candle to Boomerang Toys in Tribeca a real classy shop and very popular amongst not only locals, but from all over the world. At any given day, you will find a celebrity shopping at Boomerang Toys!

    71. 71

It's a shame the kids look like Marc and not Jennifer. BTW, I was wary of balloons around my kids as well, it's not that unusual

    72. 72

      strange looking children she produced….

    73. 73

      Re: cincinnati_lady
Uh, ok, that's understandable…but it's still fucking RUDE to send them back! Keep and throw them away at least! She's a bitch…

    74. 74

BUNCH OF IDIOTS —YEAH WHO THE HELL DOESN'T KNOW THAT BALLOONS ARE A CHOCKING HAZARD YEAH BUT IF YOU HAVE SO MUCH MONEY YOU SHOULD HAVE ADULT SUPERVISION THERE RIGHT, NOT ONLY THAT BUT AS FAR AS FOR THEM BEING ALLERGIC TO LATEX, TRUST ME SHE MOST LIKELY SHE CHECKED THEM FOR ALL THAT. IF IN FACT SHES THAT CAREFUL WITH HER KIDS. AND ANY WAY SPARE ME THE BULL SHIT SHES FROM THE BRONX AND SHE KNOWS HOW IT WAS DOWN HERE FOR HER LIKE SHE NEVER SEEN A FUCKING BALLOON A DAY IN HER FUCKING LIFE. I CANT STRESS IT ENOUGH BBIITTTCCCHHH.!!!!!!!!!!!!

    75. 75

      Hey Mario,
Can you please have the idiotic tween fan girls you have writing your posts for you start doing some research before they post? No child under 3 should play with balloons, its a very common choking hazard. Please take your head out of your ass. Your site has become barely readable lately and you are scooped by every other site on the web. And why do you never post retractions or updates on things you are WRONG about. Of course we will never hear the end of how you right about that stupid BJ Sprite ad.

    76. 76

Perez…you're an idiot!!! Why don't you do your research before writing about people and their children. Balloons ARE harmful to children…especially at that age. Their nails are so sharp and they'll try to put the balloons in their mouths…hence the chocking hazard!! IDIOT!!!

    77. 77

Her daughter has a latex allergy. Seriously, Perez, give people credit. Or do you not consider celebs people anymore?

    78. 78

Anyone ever hear of latex allergies? Duh.

    79. 79

If you give a balloon to a child that small, they will inevitably pop it. Once they pop it they will put it in their mouth, it's what little kids do, it's how they explore their environment. You need to research how many small children die because rubber from balloons gets lodged in their throats. Once that little piece of rubber gets stuck in their windpipe, there's no getting it out. The balloon store should have been smart enough to realize that. No sane parent, Perez, would let their baby play with a balloon.

    80. 80

It's possible that they are allergic you dumbass. Do you stop to think before spouting off such asinine comments?

    81. 81

they should have given a better gift…donate some money to a good charity…or buy food for the crew some thing..but balloons…come on get a clue…

    82. 82

Aside from potential latex allergies, babies DO choke on balloons if they pop while being played with. I've seen it happen, and it's horrifying. The baby is choking, and even the heimleich doesn't help. Luckily, the ambulance got there in time.
With babies, it's always better to err on the side of safety. Use Mylar balloons instead. They don't pop like normal balloons, and they last longer, too.

    83. MP says – reply to this

      83

How ungracious can you be? Even if balloons pose a hazard to children what's wrong with just saying thank you and taking them to your trailer to pop them or running them over to a nearby hospital so others can enjoy them?

    84. 84

That's a bad picture of the baby. She's no great beauty but the lighting or something makes her look especially homely here. I've seen other pictures and she didn't look this bad.

    85. 85

Re: MP – uh, that's the problem! A hospital will turn them away (Danger! Latex! That's why they don't have latex gloves in hospitals anymore)
      Popping them isn't good either.

Besides, if she accepted the dumb gift and then destroyed/gave it away then people would be calling her all sorts of names for being 'rude'.

      It's a lose/lose situation for her.

Trust me, I'm no JLo fan, but I'm not going to bash her for no reason. As much as I don't like her, she was NOT wrong to turn away the gift.

    86. 86

It's true- latex balloons are considered a serious choking hazard and are banned in pediatrics units of hospitals. A litle one can be chewing on one (because it's fun), pop it, and suddenly they have half a balloon down their little throats. Jlo for sure she could have been more gracious, but the fact is, those balloons really are choking hazards. The chillens come first, Perezito, and she was in the right on this one.

    87. 87

Wasn't it the bodyguard that turned them down? I'll be J Lo never knew about them.

    88. 88

That's actually the best photo I've seen of the little girl. Both kids are god-awful looking, but that little girl is cursed - she looks just like her daddy.

    89. 89

      Um, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE ya,
      but…
Balloons ARE a choke hazard for babies & no good mommy would allow babies that age to have them!
      4 Realz!

    90. 90

MarioLevan is right, Boomerang is a classy shop and Balloon Saloon is the opposite. Maybe the balloons were mylar, who knows - the store has both mylar and latex balloons - but regardless, this was done solely for publicity and I'm glad it backfired.

I have no love for J-Lo, but this policy is hardly rude. Balloon Saloon would get far more in publicity value than the cost of those balloons. This was no gift - it was an attempted business transaction, pure and simple. They're getting publicity even though the balloons were sent back! I have no respect for those owners and am sorry to see them getting any publicity at all.

    91. 91

No shit, I have a phobia of balloons. They are scary as living firetrucks. So don't hate on those of us with the balloon phobia and hatred thing. You act like balloons are built into our genetics as awesome bags of air. Ewww you guys are creepy.

    92. @v@ says – reply to this

      92

You just keep an eye on them while they play with them, and then the balloons are put away until you can supervise again. You expose kids and teach them how to manage risk; what if those kids meet a balloon at a drop-off birthday party in a couple of years and don't know how to handle them properly? By overprotecting you can put your kids at greater risk. Sending back balloons is a bit anal and ungracious, but people probably send her all kinds of stuff so it might be standard, unless Mommy wants it.

    93. 93

      Her kids are FUGS

    94. 94

Balloons are one of the biggest hazards for small children! They have claimed many lives!! Get your shit together before talking bad about a Mother just being responsible!

    95. 95

She was right to refuse them for her children. But she didn't need to send them back. Take them to a kids hospital or a park or something. Infants and toddlers (who put everything in their mouths) DO NOT need balloons. Saftey first yes but again, give them to someone don't send them back. (How stupid does the balloon place have to be to NOT know they're dangerous for little kids?)

    96. 96

I don't blame her for turning down some crappy unsolicited free gift. Sounds like the baloon Saloon was trying to get a bit of free advertising out of J-Lo.

    97. 97

Perez, it's so evident you don't have children. Regular helium balloons, not mylar ones, have caused the choking deaths of many children. I only use mylar balloons at my son's birthday parties. Small toddlers love to put their mouths on balloons, and if they squeeze too tightly, the balloon will pop and get sucked into the child's mouth in a vacuum effect. Research it and consult a pediatrician before you make such asinine assumptions like saying Jennifer doesn't want her kids to have fun.

You really can be such an ignorant douche, Perez.

    98. 98

Ok Perez, obviously you are not the parent of a small child. Kids that age chew the balloons. It's dangerous!! But I guess that if you wanna play the odds and give them the balloons anyway you're welcome to be an idiot!

    99. 99

      Ugly bb alert!!!
