The nominations for the UK and Ireland's Mercury Music Prize have arrived!

America, take note!

Head judge Simon Frith is said to be quite pleased with this year's nominees, telling reporters that he's impressed with "the imaginative verve with which British and Irish musicians continue to explore musical possibilities, push musical boundaries and refused to be pinned down by genre."

The awards ceremony, hosted by Jools Holland, will take place on September 8th in the UK.

And the nominees are….

Bat for Lashes - Two Suns

Florence & The Machine - Lungs

Friendly Fires - Friendly Fires

Kasabian - West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum

La Roux - La Roux

The Horrors - Primary Colours

Glasvegas - Glasvegas

Led Bib- Sensible Shoes

Lisa Hannigan- Sea Sew

Speech Debelle- Speech Therapy

Sweet Billy Pilgrim - Twice Born Men

The Invisible - The Invisible

Thoughts on the noms???

      FLORENCE TO WIN!

    2. 2

      Who are they?

    3. 3

How about its kind of sad when you can't tell the BAND name from the ALBUM name, because they're both so obscure! Either that or I'm just too dang old. :(

    4. 4

Hope for Bat for Lashes here, but Florence and the Machine very nice to

    5. 5

Love kasabian and friendly fires. I havent heard any of the other artists but ill make sure to check them out. thanks for the list.

    6. 6

      The Horrors

    7. 7

    11. 11

      i love bat for lashes
glasvegas sucks, though, in my opinion. cant stand the guy's voice :\

    12. 12

I don't even know half of those noms

    13. 13

      WTF la roux ?!?!?!?!?

      she's a moron

    14. 14

Never heard of any of them before.

    15. 15

    16. 16

PUT DOWN THE LADY GAGA ALBUM YOU FUCKING RETARDS AND LISTEN TO THE NEW HORRORS

    17. 17

      bat for lashes to win!!!!!

    18. 18

      none.

    19. 19

Florence and the machine to win !!

    20. 20

The new Horror's album is amzing. They deserve the win for Primary Colors!

    21. 21

      Who?????

    22. 22

What about The Script???? One of the best bands to come out of Ireland in a long time. I've never heard of most of the nominees.

    23. 23

FLORENCE + THE MACHINE - the album LUNGS is INSPIRED GENIUS

    24. 24

      bat for lashes. def.

    25. 25

Florence and Kasabian would have my vote. Surprised Little Boots not on the list. There are always a few obscure jazz/folk bands on the list, otherwise it would be totally predictable.

    26. 26

Florence and the Machine to win, she is amazing

    27. 27

Seriously, 12 nominees and all but 2 are English, nevermind the fact that 50% of them are relative unknowns. Biased load of bollocks!

    28. 28

Either Bat For Lashes, Florence and the Machine or La Roux to win :) preferably Florence though, Lungs is amazing!

    29. 29

      florence and the machine!

perhaps then la roux, friendly fires and bat for lashes.

    30. 30

Kasabian ought to win.But Bat for Lashes is OK so is Frances and the Machine.

The 2 girls make Kylie sound ancient and way out of touch and they writ their own stuff unlike the pop pensioner kylie

    31. 31

I say give it to Florence! Love her stuff.

    32. 32

I'm so happy for Sweet Billy Pilgrim, their albums are amazing and they're the nicest guys you could ever hope to meet. I'm sure they'll be beaten out by more well known acts like Bat for Lashes but honestly Twice Born Men is the best album this year as far as I'm concerned. And good selections this year, very impressed. All deserving.

    33. 33

Kasabians new album is amazing but so is Friendly Fires hmm…

    34. 34

Glasvegas to win they are too too good

    35. 35

for me, i hope friendly fires get it. (:

    36. 36

I have no idea who any of those peeps are. Sorry.

    40. 40
