Tyler Perry Does Good!
The Mouse will meet Madea when Tyler Perry brings 65 Pennsylvania children from a largely minority daycare center to the happiest place on earth after a swim club canceled pool privileges for the children.
In a widely reported story (we mentioned it too) some of the older white patrons at the swim club the children were attending made racist comments toward the group of primarily African American and Hispanic children. The swim club director, John Duesler, claimed that there were "safety and crowding" issues with the children's presence at the club, thus their contract to use the pool was canceled. (This was after he told a local TV show that the children changed "the complexion" and "atmosphere" of the club.)
How rude!
Not to fear, young ones. Though you won't get to swim in racist waters, you will get to ride Space Mountain and eat ice cream! When Tyler Perry heard this story, he genuinely felt bad for the kids so he decided to treat them all to a 3 day-2 night stay in the Florida resort- all expenses paid!
The writer, director, producer, actor says: "This made me so angry. This is awful, and for anyone that has grown up in the inner-city, you know that one small act of kindness can change your life…I want them to know that for every act of evil that a few people will throw at you, there are millions more who will do something kind for them. This is all about the kids."
Kudos to you, Tyler! We like to see actors give a little back every once and awhile.

I live near the pool where this incident took place. I honesty don't believe this is a racist incident. If you paid $700.00 a seaon for your family to swim at a private pool, wouldn't you be annoyed to find 55 to 65 children (no matter what race they are) swimming there too and not being forewarned about it. As for racist remarks, i.e., "What are all these black kids doing here?", if they were white kids at a predominately black private pool, you can believe the patrons would be saying, "What are all these white kids doing here?". Please, how are we supposed to refer to children of African American descent if not saying black? Is being referred to as black a racist comment? Black or African American people are really touchy. I'm American Indian and I don't get offended when people make Red man remarks. Get over it and grow up.

Get real Grannyho. They knew when they took the money how many children were coming. Of course the kids were excited. Inner city kids don't have access to a pool every day. There's no excuse for grown people making racist remarks to and about children. There's a special place in hell for those ugly f*ckers. So many Native Americans are more racist than white people. Actually, these kids/campers weren't the only ones turned away by this club this summer, however those other incidents haven't made the news…so I'm guessing the kids were white?! It was only a small sentence in one of the local papers about the other campers, but no one has elaborated.
Not to say this wasn't racially motivated, but still, can't believe they'd do something so blatant knowing the backlash they'd receive…
Anyway, nice gesture by Mr. Perry.
Though I think this is a great idea, Perry himself said that one small act of kindness can change a life - how about impacting lives of more children in this inner city area? Find a non-profit that you could donate money to, who could build and maintain a swimming pool. That way, for every summer from now until whenever, all children could benefit. Have to love what he is doing though, those children will certainly have a great time at Disney!

The Creative Steps Day Camp payed aprox. $1900 for the kids to swim there and I'm assuming that price was agreed upon. So it wasn't like they got some kind of freebie.

You left the discriminatory part out. It is not the comments alone that led the camper to claim discrimination, it is the comments coupled with being prohibited from the area that led them to claim discrimination.

I hate it when kids are so innocent they get picked and blamed on. So it was very nice of Tyler to do such a good deed and beside Space Mountain is better than a pool any day.
too bad space mountain is closed for repairs and such until november, so magic kingdom is pretty lame right now.

Aw, that is so sweet. I felt so badly for those kids when I heard about this incident. What a big heart, and it will leave a tremendous impression on those kids.
