James Blunt Is A Loser!

| Filed under: AnglophiliaMusic MinuteJames Blunt

And, apparently, the singer's manager is a douche too!

Weird Al Yankovic is known to parody some of the best talent in music. We all recall when Yankovic did Eat It, his take on Michael Jackson's Beat It, and Fat, his take on MJ's Bad.

But it seems the You're Beautiful singer, James Blunt, wants no part of Yankovic's "flattery."

Weird Al is getting ready to release another one of his greatest hits CD this fall, but it seems he'll have to do it without Blunt's parody song he wrote and performed, You're Pitiful. Which is lame since reports state Blunt had originally agreed to allow the song to be parodied, but it was his record label, Atlantic Records, who pulled the plug.

Weird Al even took to his Twitter page yesterday to share his rejection notice from Blunt's manager.

Yankovic wrote:

"In case you were hoping for "You're Pitiful" to be included on my "Essentials" collection, sorry, this just in from Blunt's manager: Thanks for your email, but both James and I will never approve this parody to be released on any label."

Lame!

James Blunt, his manager and his label need to get a sense of humor!

I hate James Blunt. Weird Al was doing that untalented douche a favor by parodying his lame song.

  2. 2

    Weird Al Yankovic rocks

    james blunt is a loser

  3. 3

    lol

  4. 4

No one NEEDS permission to parody, Weird Al just chooses to do so out of professional courtesy. Al is the effing BOMB!

  5. 5

This parody cracked me up! LOL ..James Blunt is an idiot if he doesn't let this happen, he doesn't realize that it is a form of flattery that will only shove more people HIS way to hear the original version…… James Blunt ya DOUCHE!

  6. 6

    this song is hilarious!

  7. 7

actually no its not lame at all…some songs just dont belong in a weird al parody, this is one of them, as this is mean…just like you Perez…even michael jackson didnt want Weird Al parodying Black and White…I can see why you think hes a douche though…but dont worry, you are so high at the top of the list of douches..I hope someone beats you up again soon

  8. 8

Re: Coin Stuck To My Thigh – actually they do need permission to release it like they are asking for. they cant sell it without his permission

  9. 9

So what?? I make stuff like that up to songs all the time! Good one weird Al.

  10. 10

go away weird al. not funny. blunt's dick's going to fall of from having sex with so many girls on mallorca

  11. 11

Think James Blunt will be remembered in 20 years?

Weird Al's talent has spanned 3 decades now. Not bad.

  12. 12

they just flushed a gang of money down the toilet. wonder why?
james blunt is a douchebag anyway.

  13. 13

This is really old news. James Blunt turned him down three years ago. Back To Bedlam, Blunt's first album came out in 2004 and included You're Beautiful. Weird Al does some parodies in his live concerts where permission has not been given to record and release.

  14. 14

    Weird Al is awesome.

  15. 15

my friend furked weird al…she said he was nice and was also a good tipper

  16. 16

He is the worst singer anyway. Anybody who listens to this D-bag is lame.

  17. 17

I'm still trying to figure out where James Blunt is at fault. He didn't say anything, the only thing that mentions is that he actually gave his approval. I see a statement from a MANAGER but not Blunt… but ironic you bring up Michael Jackson - when Jackson refused a couple of his songs to be parodied because he believed some songs just shouldn't be.

Parodies are protected under copyright law. Since "You're Beautiful" has already been released Blunt and Atlantic have no say in whether the parody is released.

James should rethink it. Parody is one of those silly perks that wipes the serious off our faces. It's actually a compliment for Al to consider his song. Love WeirdAl.

  24. 24

A Weird Al tribute is an honour, yet another reason James Blunt sucks

  25. 25

REALLY, LIGHTEN UP BLUNT IT WAS GOOD! NO SENSE OF HOMOR.

  26. 26

So don't release it on a label - release it on the INTERNET as a free download. James Blunt can suck it then!

  27. 27

Re: ANM Incorrect. You cannot profit off of a parody in the fashion of Weird Al because all he changes are the words, not the sheet music. He can parody and perform it all he wants. The minute he makes a dime, it's illegal.

  28. 28

I love this Weird Al parody!

  29. 29

Did anyone see the statement made by Weird Al after Jackson's death? He was so gracious and spoke so highly of Michael and his reaction to the idea of the parodies. The prodies in no way hurt Jackson's career or took anything form his music. Poor loser Blundt is probably insecure with the idea of his song being made into a joke…its ridiculous. He truly needs a sense of humor. He could also take a cue from Michael Jackson.

  30. 30

HA!! I did not even remember James Blunt still existed until I read this post! And I liked his goofy ass song and still forgot about him. So maybe he should chill out and laugh and let his song be parodied! Then at least he can re-enter mainstream news again…

  31. 31

You're beautiful la la la! (I'm not talking to you Perez) Your song would be…"You stupid fool"

  32. 32

this is ridiculous…why cant this be on the album its hilarious i never comment but i had to on this

    33

James should consider this an honour.. it my bring his career back. When was the last time anyone said " I love the new James blunt song"…C'mon James, be a man and let the parody happen. If MJ and Madonna (the biggest stars in musical history .. along withe Beatles and Elvis) didn't their song being made fun of, then so shouldn't you.

  34. 34

What an Artist's record label says, goes - every time. Here's what Al Yankovich stated about not being able to record 'Your'e Pitiful' -

" Actually, James Blunt was totally fine with it, and “You’re Pitiful” was going to be my lead single. Then, the day after we announced the original release date for Straight Outta Lynwood, we heard from Blunt’s label (Atlantic Records) that they didn’t want the parody to come out. "

My personally thinking is that James Blunt's 'Your Beautiful' is special to him, yet at the same time he does have a quirky sense of humor and probably enjoyed how Al had presented the parody of that song. Which is why he gave his OK.

  35. 35

James Blunt is just a douche… his songs suck!

    36

James Blunt is a douchebag, the original version of this song was one of the worst things I've ever heard.

  37. 37

doesn't James Blunt have sense of humor?!

  38. 38

Goodbye writing royalties that could have been earned. A brief history: Weird Al's career 30 years since his first set of singles, (1979) and millions of records and an ongoing concert tour that rakes in the money. Too bad it won't make the record, good that Al has linked it for free for everyone.. his new stuff (find Skipper Dan on Youtube) is great stuff.. and, in five years, he'll still have a career, and James Blunt will be waiting tables. UHF 20th Anniversary!

  39. 39

Thanks Al I needed a laugh this morning!

  40. 40

Weird Al said it: James Blunt and his record company are pitiful and fuckin' patetic. Most famous artists have allowed Weird Al to parodise them and this loser and his record label will not allow it.

  41. 41

how is this news? everyone knows hes a wanker, britain hates him

  42. 42

In Rolling Stone magazine this year, they had famous musicians vote on the best singers of all time. They handed out surveys to various musicians who could vote for up to 20. Everyone picked various singers and who they thought was important and put them on the list. When they posted some of those ballots on the the website, they included the ballot of Bruce Springsteen, David Crosby, Solomon Burke…. and James Blunt.

James Blunt put himself as 1 on the survey above John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Freddie Mercury, Nina Simone, etc. That says it all as far as I'm concerned.

  43. 43

I love the song and video. Weird AL is the shit. James Blunt is an asshole. His career is over just like Coolio.

  44. 44

thats lame. i think its kind of an honor to be parodied by weird al yankovich :)

  45. 45

I think James Blunt has crappy music but he does have a good sense of humour actually. Just watch several interviews, for example the top gear interview. I doubt he had anything to do with this rejection.

  46. 46

fatchan I'm with you about James Blunt having a sense of humor!

Other Record Labels have refused having their Artist's songs parodied. It's like this … once songs are recorded by an artist, their Record Label ultimately has the decision of how they want those songs promoted. Simply because they have a vested interest.

Seems to me Al is being portrayed as having a hissy fit because he can't do what he likes with someone else's song, yet has had tremendous exposure already from James Blunt's 'Your Beautiful' parody on Youtube, and continues to do so. Plus it's great we've all been able to see it, and James Blunt has too probably. Win/win all round I say.

  47. 47

Yeah, some people have no sense of humor. You know, while Michael Jackson allowed his stuff to be parodied, he NEVER allowed the "sacred" Beatles songs he owned to be parodied. Although he had no problem selling them for commercials and that Cirque De Soleil show in Vegas. What a tool! Weird Al rocks!

  48. 48

In fact, MANY bands and singers have said they consider themselves as having "made it" once Weird Al parodies them. Nirvana, Chili Peppers….many more!
