44 People Arrested In New Jersey, Including Officials And Rabbis
Giving a whole new meaning to "Dirty Jersey": forty-four people, including two mayors, a deputy mayor, an assemblyman, and several rabbis were
arrested Thursday for involvement in an extensive corruption and international money laundering scheme.

Officials under arrest include Hoboken mayor Peter Cammarano III, Secaucus mayor Dennis Elwell, Assemblyman Daniel Van Pelt, and Jersey City deputy mayor Leona Beldini.
The two-pronged investigation has been underway for three years and finally came to a head this morning.
The first part of the investigation deals with corruption: Cammarano allegedly took close to $35,000 in bribes from an undercover government worker who posed as a real estate developer. Similarly, Van Pelt supposedly took $10,000 in cash for "consulting" after an undercover FBI official (posing as a real estate exec) asked him to help fast-track a project in Waretown, NJ.
The second part of the investigation involves rabbis who are supposed to have laundered tens of millions of dollars through their temples and other religious organizations for a fee. Tens of millions?? That's a freaking lot of cashola!

Re: about-time – you're an idiot. i grew up in deal too. the sy's and orthodox don't "invade" it every summer… they own that town year-round. they're the reason that town is well-off and a beautiful, safe place to live. people from brooklyn move in every summer, and the money they flood into the local economy is the reason it survives the rest of the year, so don't bitch about the summer crowd either. a lot of people arrested in this mess are good people who have done some really amazing wonderful things for deal and the people who live there. today is a tragedy for that town and all the wonderful people who live there.
