T.R. Knight Reveals Why He REALLY Left Grey's Anatomy!
Filed under: TV News > T.R. Knight
If all you Grey's Anatomy fans are still wondering where it all went wrong with George O'Malley, then read on! T.R Knight is finally coming clean about how his exit from the show came to pass.
T.R. was recently interviewed about his departure and, frankly, his decision was based purely on the bad blood he has been harboring for series creator Shonda Rimes.
Meow!
Knight admits that problems originally arose during the "Isaiahgate" incident.
T.R. remembers the incident as "frustrating," more so since it took Shonda three months to publicly condemn Isaiah Washington for his use of an anti-gay slur. Then, there was even more turmoil between the two as T.R. suggests Shonda wanted him to keep his sexuality hidden, despite his feelings that coming out of the closet would help the "Isaiahgate" situation.
But the boiling point for Knight was his lack of screen time and lack of connection with his character during the last few seasons. He resented and lost respect for his character and the people behind it: “My five-year experience proved to me that I could not trust any answer that was given [about his character, George]…It didn’t seem like an ebb to me. No other series regular’s character had ever disappeared like mine did this past season.”
And if you are hoping T.R. will return to the series in flashbacks or something - don't, because it ain't gonna happen. He flat out refused them and their big check to pursue other projects: “There just comes a time when it’s so clear that moving on is the best decision.”
We wish him the best!

Cry baby.
my baby
In 3 years not a soul will remember his name.
Isaiah was speaking out of some stupid emotion in in his head, not unlike you perez. I wonder if the william experience taught you anything?
i love greys anatomy & george o'malley its just a shame that beef with one person on a few occasions could cause him to do this. although i did notice his little screen time if any
Numbers 2 and 4, you're fucking idiots. You're obviously not creative people or you'd understand the reason why he had to leave. Not everybody becomes an actor to be recognized as a "star." T.R. has been acting long before Greys and will be acting long after. And this time, he will be in the position to chose his own roles on his own terms. THAT'S a successful career. Yes, Greys afforded him that but if you were creative at all, you'd understand the frustration that comes from not being utilized and not being able to express yourselves creatively. So, sit behind your pathetic computers and crunch your pathetic numbers, or go back to slinging hash in some dive of a diner.
Bring Isaiah back!!!
I do agree with the screen time this past season was boring and limited, however he cant get mad over shonda not making his character gay. This is not a biography he is a actor and its his job to do what shonda request of him. Shonda cant make someone apologies for a gay slur its up to washington. Plus bringing the issue to the public was not in the best interest of the show. Wahington and Knights issues should have been dealt with in private. Knight was blowing it up and talking about the incident on tv shows . His intentions were to get Washington fired , so you know what they say about karma. You don’t mess with someone’s bread and butter period. oooh also wouldnt it be funny if they were to recast washington back after all its not like hes dead right?
Suzanne Somers, Farrah Fawcett, Shelly Long, Brian Dunkelman…..the list goes on and on. Stupid "actors" either biting the hand that feeds them and/or ego out of hand. Will they ever learn?! Actors like TR are a dime a dozen. He should have held onto a good thing. I'm sure factory workers, garbage men, plumbers, secretaries, maids, painters, waitresses/waiters, etc. would give their eye teeth for this opportunity. FOOL!
Poor guy- and i really mean that
Gee what a shock, an arrogant hollywood producer wanted a gay guy to stay in the closet. Shonda is typical of what is wrong with hollywood.
….I understand the need for artistic fulfillment but I'd take a bit role in a Coca Cola ad for the cash.
…"Diet Coke" of course.
T. R who?
Well, I guess this is just another example of how stupid those other 2 people you've been blasting were for saying that gay's shouldn't be in a such a hurry to flaunt their sexuality in Hollywood huh? It obviously worked out great for T.R.!
Sounds like an attention seeking little troublemaker they couldn't wait to get rid of. If I remember Isiah Washington's comment wasn't even aimed at him.
the show is crap on every level. all the actors deserve better than this horrible show's writing.
Good riddance. I didn't like him anyway.
Re: semisweet65 – are you retarted? He never asked nor wanted his character to be gay. He just did not wan't to be closeted in his private life, which you should respect. He is clearly one of the superior actors on the show and wants a chance at other parts, his decision will enable him that. Your mother must have thrown your head in the ceiling.
I wish him the best, too. It makes me sad because I loved the character of O'Mally, he brought a lot to the table… However he is right, the past few season's just werent the same. I can see why he'd no longer want to be involved with something he just wasn't passionate about.
Too bad, sounds like a lot of the blame goes to writers/producers.
What an idiot! He will fade into obscurity now because he isn't really special as an actor anyway. He will join the ranks of so many actors who have left show or been cancelled and no one ever hears of them again. Gay, straight or bi, it all comes down to whether the powers that be in Hollyweird want to hire you and I just don't see him ever getting anything better than he had on Grey's. I hope he has a back up plan for making a living.
T.R. IS A SHALLOW DOUCHE AND BRITNEY LOOKS LIKE BROOKE HOGAN IN THAT CANDIE'S AD COVERING THIS SITE.
omg…GO AWAY!…when will this cry baby ingrate just go away!…Gray's made you famous you asshole. I can't believe i use to love this guy!…what an ASS!
i don't blame him at all for leaving…his character (who was the BEST) had virtually disappeared. it's a bummer for fans of the show, don't know if i'll keep watching. it seems like shonda got a big head when the series took off…not cool how she handled the isaiah situation. and it was pretty obvious to viewers that she had issues with t.r. because he basically had no screen time anymore. he's better off…the series has jumped the shark.
I never liked that idiot character and actor.
What anti-gay slur?
this one? "you're not a f**king artist … you're a f**king f*ggot."
Re: mi mama me mima –
And you are a smelly twat with no clit.
I thought he was adorable when he was a bit chubby with scruffy hair…he still looks cute now. He lost some weight. It's too bad he's batting for the other team =) too bad for us ladies that is..
See you on Dancing With the Stars, T.R.
Good luck .. you're gonna need it.
Who cares? EW will be the only mag cover that this guy will get.
Re: Scooter – WAHHHHH!! Is your name T.R. Knight?
i absolutely LOVED his character in the beginning…he was so innocent and charming, i literally wanted to marry him. he was well justified in his decision to leave they changed his character and screen time so much. i think he was a vital part of the show and i don't see good things for grey's in the future.
Anti-gay Slur, does that sound familiar perez???? memba will.i.am???
The funny thing is he will never find work now.
I'm happy for him that he'll be able to pursue better opportunities. He was too good for Grey's horrible story lines lately anyway. Grey's jumped the shark so badly I'm ashamed to admit I was ever a fan of the show!
I wish he would've taken Smokey the Bitch with him. She sucks too!
Wow Perez I love you but you are quite a hypocrit.
He leaves, and bashes the show and the creator, and you say "good for you, best of luck." Heigl does the same and you call her a selfish bitch. blah blah. Which is fine, but keep it consistent eh?
And TR is right, his character has SUCKED since they did the whole "Izzie/George" dating thing. Going to miss him though. Loving the dramatic exit.
what a bitch he was my favorite character it wont be the same without him
they need to get him back and pay him double
Re: semisweet65 – What planet do you live on–Before Grey's no one even heard of him–and check his "creditials" on IMDB all he's ever done was guest spots and cameos–He should have stayed on Grey's– he will never get another gig that big and in a couple of years be totally forgotten!!
Bye - Bye!!
.
.
.
Glad he is off the show - the only character I didn't like.
So Isaiah got fired because of this little whiner? I thought Isaiah was the best actor on the show. T.R. has too high an opinion of his part on this show, and he needs to stop playing the victim card of being gay.
Hope he saved his money. i don't see him as a leading role anytime soon - on TV or big screen. one more Mushy - got too big for their britches too soon. now the green line is gone, and they will be a mess.
This got me right here, "T.R. suggests Shonda wanted him to keep his sexuality hidden, despite his feelings that coming out of the closet would help the "Isaiahgate" situation." Why is it that a gay actor, who is playing a straight character, feels the need for the writers to have their character come out of the closet?! This is NOT your REAL life, it's a character you're playing…which happens to be a straight character. Why does your character on the show have to come out too? It makes no sense. You're gay in real life, not your make believe person that you're playing on t.v. You don't see Neil Patrick Harris complaining that his straight character on "How I Met Your Mother" can't come out of the closet. He chose to play a straight character even though he's gay. It's just a bunch of BS!! Pretty soon gay actors will be hired to only play gay characters in fear of this becoming a real issue in the acting world. Seriously!
Re: PerezuBitch – you clearly delusional if you think TR Knight is a superior actor. I dont see him going far after the show, because hes boring.
Re: Scooter – - well here's the problem. The days of earning a steady paycheck are over for him. Everyone in hollywood knows that if you are one of the lucky ones to ever be a regular on a hit tv show - which is really winning the lottery - you stay. He'll follow a long line of tv stars that can't crack any other medium. So it will be a series of failed or non pick-up pilots or small roles in films where you take home 50k every two years.
Anyone see Gary Dourdan of CSI fame lately - before he blew his steady job?
I don't get the appreal of this guy. He is average looking at best, and dating a guy way to young for him. He is already a has been IMO.
good for you, T.R..
Just LOVE him!
I agree with SEMI. He blew the whole Isaiah situation out of proportion. Their issue could have been settle amongst friends. Instead T. R. and others on the set made it a big deal to get things moving along to get Isaiah fired. Now T.R. wants it to seem as if he made the decision to leave the show. Sorry dud you were showed the door.
Isaiah Washington got fired because he made a homophobic remark to a work colleague. If that had happened in any other work place he would have been fired the day he made the remark. Isaiah Washington was thick enough to then use that disgusting word at a big awards ceremony and deny any wrong doing while T.R. Knight was stood there in front of the worlds media. It's about time people got over the fact Isaiah Washington got fired it was his own stupid fault. T.R. Knight's departure just goes to show the actors have no say in the decisions made by the producers. I wish him well with his future projects!
He's a cutie. He'll be fine.
I still think Isaiah Washington got royally effed over. Once he was gone, so was I. He has an extremely compelling stage presence. I miss it too much to keep watching.
That sucks dude. He has always been my favorite character on the show, and I missed him this season. Dont blame him at all.
BRING ISAIAH BACK
the funny thing is who ever even heard of him before this show? i mean isaiah was wrong but his sexuality shouldn't even be a part of the show period! i hate when people air their dirty laundry against the people who helped them to make it! i never knew him before this!!!
He's a nobody. He just keeps riding the "gay slur" incident (how long ago was that now??). Shoulda stuck with Greys - he won't get anything else near as good coz he's boring.
I love him! Omg the last season finale was so sad when Izzy met him in heaven and he was wearing his class A army uniform. :*(
Suddenly Perez wishes T.R. the best?
Funny, since all Perez has ever done is bash T.R.
Hypocrite.
Up until recently, I have never heard of show creators having as much power as they do. Shonda Rimes and Marc Cherry (Desperate Housewives) seem to control every move on those shows. Its sad, George was such an important character to that show, and because of "bad blood" the show and fans loose a character we've conected with. Shame.
I love George. I will miss the character.
dAMN, gEORGE ANS iSSIE WAS MY FAVE…
