Becks Fined $1000 For Incident With Fan!

Yikes!
David Beckham's infamous hand gesture has gotten him into a bit of trouble!
As you may recall, a group of hardcore LA Galaxy fans, the LA Riot Squad, were heckling Beckham because he took a five-month leave of absence to play with AC Milan (strangely enough, the team who Sunday's Galaxy match was against). Further, Beckham is buying out of his contract so he can return to Milan to play - ditching us here.
He was welcomed back to LA with "Go Home Fraud," and "Hey Becks, Here Before You, Here after You, Here Despite You,"signs, as well as booing.
Becks was not having it and during halftime walked over to the fans and beckoned the fans to come over the bleachers and confront him to his face. One fan proceeded to do so, and both Beckham and the fan were restrained by security.
Post-game, Becks tried to spin the incident, claiming that he was extending his hand as a peace offering. We'd like to believe you, baby cakes, but unfortunately, the Major League Soccer bigwigs don't: MLS commisioner Don Garber fined the sexy soccer player $1000 dollars for his unprofessional conduct.
Says Gerber, "We support our players interacting with fans, whether it is at clinics, charity events or by high-fiving their supporters in the stands while celebrating a goal. However, our players should never engage in conduct that can be interpreted as encouraging fans to come out of the stands and onto the field, regardless of the reason."
Beckham told the Press Association, "I don't like my sons seeing that and hearing that, and my family, from an organized group of fans. I think it was disrespectful, some of the things that were being said and also some of the banners. To be honest all I'm going to do is play my football, if it's not good enough for some people, as long as it's good enough for myself and the team nothing else matters."
We love the pure seks that is David Beckham, but isn't heckling a part of professional sports? It sucks, but if you're abandoning the team early, you have to sort of expect it.
Good thing he doesn't play for the Red Sox or Yankees!!

the culture of football is far different than most american sports. Frankly i am astonished becks handled it the way he did.
after the 1998 world cup (becks was sent of a very important period in the quarter final against argentina who went on to be england and knock them out) he had to deal with death threats; at away games they needed to enlist hundreds of extra stewards to deal with fans trying to get at him
in europe some posters and having fans telling him to leave would be (relatively speaking) almost a compliment compared to what many players receive week in week out. In summary beckham is an absolute idiot for reacting the way he did. He always talks about how he has played inthe biggest teams in the biggest situations (which he has) but his behaviour was more indicative of a 19 year old who had never been exposed to football fans.
and perez… he has never once said he is going to buy out his contract. he is planning on going back for a loan deal, but he has said about 10 times in the last week that he will honour the galaxy contract (albeit it will probably mean missing half the season most years but he will still be back)

I think it's really funny how Americans think he's disrespectful for wanting to leave LA when he actually done the MLS a favour by going there and making it more known in the football world. He wants to play football for England in next years world cup (if they qualify) so to do that he has to be at his best, and that means play at a higher level than the MLS. Re: eighmee – Yes what he did is wrong, unprofessional and he should have known better to not react in that way but as someone has already pointed out, he's a bit of a hot head (if you look at what he did at the world cup in 98).
But what I'm saying is that its a bit of an over-reaction to him playing in Milan. He wants to stay in 'top-flight' football so he wants to play the best he can. He's in his 30s so his body isn't recovering from injuries they way it would have when he was in his 20s so he goes to Milan to keep fit, to be in top flight football and so that the England manager could see what he was doing. I don't blame him for that, he wants to play for his country so he does what he can to do so. He's not leaving L.A hes just going between the two clubs.

I was at the game and 3 rows away from the "LA RIOT SQUAD" - They were a bunch of drunken offensive louts who constantly heckled and yelled whenever Beckham touched the ball. At half-time Beckham approached the "fans" and I saw him offer his hand in friendship- one of the "fans" lunged at him and was escorted out of the stadium.
Beckham played a professional game of soccer and set up the two goals that the Galaxy managed to score.
$1000 huh… nothing but a drop in the bucket for this husband of a lollipop-headed sack a' bones.

You seem to have missed the point- The Galaxy stadium was only sold out last week because of Beckham- he has made more money for that club than any other player and more kids are interested in the game of soccer in the States than ever before because of him and his soccer camps.
He did what he came to do in the States-bring more attention to the game.
