Everyone kept hyping it up, and it was mediocre at best!

She "moved" more than she actually danced, and her singing was way weak.

Watch Mrs. Tom Cruise's Judy Garland tribute on So You Think You Can Dance? last night (above).

Thoughts????

P.S. It was pre-taped and not done before a live audience. It could and should have been soooo much better!

      That was singing? More like labored breathing and yelling. What dancing? She did a couple of poorly executed high kicks and jazz hands. I expected more from a Broadway veteran.

      Honestly, the performance went well and all, but I was a bit disappointed since I thought that she'd, you know, actually dance.

      It was lip syncing and a lot of kicking and high-stepping around the stage….

      The cause is good..dance for kids…but Katie Holmes was a bad vehicle for that message.

      I was impressed with her singing however the dancing left a lot to be desired. The choreography was horrible and was far too simple. She needed to either be able to NAIL a routine or not do it at all. She looked very pretty though….

      She didn't even dance! She just strutted on stage in her high heels, wiggled her hips a bit. No tap, no jazz, no spins. The back-up dancers did all the dancing.

      When did she turn 45. She's aged so much. Why prays someone who's singing to a very edited back track version of herself plus her dancing was nothing to brag about.

      Judy Garland would have preferred Peter Allen's fancy feet over Mrs. Tom Cruises.

      I don't think it's fair to judge her against, say, the other dancers on the show. She hasn't had training, she did this gig for charity and an important charity at that. So I give her props for that, even though she didn't do anything spectacular.
      I could have done without her singing, but I am glad she is lending her name to something that isn't connected to weirdness and Scientology.

      Seriously? I was surprised by how much I liked her performance… I thought she sang great and though the dancing wasn't over the top mindblowing, it was pretty appropriate for what she was doing, and considering she's not a 'dancer' I thought she did great! Go Katie =)

      wednesday night's cancer tribute, choreographed by tyce diorio and danced by melissa and ade, was beautiful.

      1. Lip synced the song, which there was no need for since she didn't actually dance.
      2. Her big dance moves were step - touch - step, which is equivalent to standing there and swaying, and the only time she moved from one place to another is when a bunch of people manhandled her into doing so -

You need someone with the drug induced, frantic shaking with shorter legs (if you've seen the original) … Katie doesn't understand … someone like Christina Aguillera or WOW! Britany ???!!! Also, you have to have the Garland haircut to pull this off.

      I would have to see a better copy of the video before passing judgment. You can't compare it to Garland, she was one of a kind. Katie Holmes certainly isn't a Florence Foster Jenkins, either. She did what she did for a great cause and did something she doesn't do often. Give her credit for that!

      It was "beginner" level!!!! Really, I would have expected much more!!!!!! I know this was taped about 2 months ago, and they did like 8 takes. I'm surprised that this was the best of the lot. It was just so so for a "professional". That's it! : )

      I am a horrible person b/c I just realized that I wanted this to suck because I believe she sold her soul to scientology to become rich and famous. However this didn't suck and it was for a charity, which I hadn't realized. BUT- hasn't she been rehearsing for more than three months now? Where was the actually DANCING? My first show was a musical-theatre,black comedy in-the-round. We had to sing. We had to dance. We had ballet numbers. We had to be funny. We had to be dark. We had to be mysterious and we had frozen cues. And we had to do this all while making sure that the entire theatre (@400 people seated around an encircled stage) could see us in our entirty. All that took less than 2 months rehearsal. Granted, we didn't have the shiny stage or piano or male dancers that Ms.Holmes had, but it was still very tough and we still brought it together in record time. I just didn't see the dancing here. The only compliments I can offer are these: It was for a very, very, good cause. She got in a couple of good high kicks and didn't screw it up. But I'm afraid they may have forgotten to do the old "Merde!" tradition backstage.

      Well, it was a Broadway number; I thought she did a pretty good job of it. Not much footwork, obviously by design. It was professional enough for what it was, and she pulled it off. Decent voice, and she was on key. OK, so it's not Garland, but who ever thought they'd see this coming out of Katie Holmes? If she had as much stage time and rehearsal as Garland did, you'd see massive improvements from Katie. Whatever.
