It must be true that talent is something you were born with because training didn't do shiz for Katie Holmes!
So You Think You Can Dance panelist Mary Murphy revealed that Mrs. Tom Cruise has been working on her "skills" for quite some time.
"Katie Holmes has been working with Tyce Diorio for the last year, training as a dancer so this is definitely a product of all that training. I'm super excited to see her doing her Judy Garland thing," said the most likely disappointed judge.

i'm going to have to agree, though she does this better than i could, it isn't much of a "dance" routine but rather, her just walking around and having guys lift her.

Shit, I have seen better dancing at a Hungarian wedding.

OK, I'm no big Katie Holmes fan BUT if you go to YouTube and type in Get Happy Judy Garland and watch the original musical number it's the EXACT SAME STEPS! Judy didn't dance either….I wish Perez would post both clips. So what's the big deal? Katie actually did pay an homage with the same steps!

The purpose of this routine wasn't to wow an audience, but to inform the public in a fun way of an outstanding charity of scholarships she helped create. Way to attract the wrong attention to a much needed cause Perez…sometimes you really get it wrong.

Friends in my college theater department have less than three months to put together whole musicals…that are performed live multiple times a week. If this actually took a year, then Katie just isn't meant to be a paid performer.

That's what I said in an earlier post too….Judy Garland was never a great dancer either, but it's the EXACT STEPS!
My Perezcious has been dieting for a year and a half and still looks like a queen-sized unmade bed but with smaller pillows.
Katie was copying the original that Judy Garland did. She was beautiful, samg well, and the dance wasn't supposed to be a professional number by pro dancers. It was entertainment for charity. As she probably isn't a dancer at all, she trained from the beginning. Good job Katie.

she couldve tried a little harder and actually danced….she was walking around..and her singing was ok….i mean there were pics of her for months coming out of dance studios looking tired and worked up…my 3rd grade dance class routine circa 1998 was way better than that shiz…

i thought she did good…the choreography wasn't complex or intricate, but she looked very natural and not awkward…her singing i thought was even better than her dancing. you know a very large portion of people you see on dance competitions are people who have been dancing since they were very, very young? technique takes a long time to build. even sabra, the winner of sytycd a couple seasons ago, had been dancing for (i think) THREE years and the judges were always so amazed that someone who had only been training for three "short" years was so good at dancing.
Am I missing something? I don't see what the issue is. She sings and dances at least as well as Britney Spears and no one bashes Britney. Could all the negativity just be catty jealousy?

Her moves were sharp on pointe and gorgeous. Simple and beautifull dancing -a breath of fresh air compared to the slutty overly sexualized boring popular crap being shoved down our throats 24 /7.

i don't know what clip some of you folks are watching, but this was NOT the same choreography as judy's number. more evidence of the dumbing down of america… vaguely similar equals the same… ugh.
btw, this was supposed to be for a DANCE show.. if katie wanted to do judy, there are many DANCE numbers from her career that she could have chosen… but then, katie would actually have to be able to DANCE, which she obviously cannot.

This isn't jealousy, it's a backlash against the excessive hype.
This performance was overly promoted, being called "the routine of a lifetime" and "Oscar-worthy."
When they made it sound like it was going to be spectacular, and it turned out to be so-so, they can't backpedal and say, "Oh, well, you know, she isn't a real dancer."
They should have thought of this before they promised something groundbreaking.
The problem here is the disparity between the inflated promises and the cheesy, lame result.
She's got the jazz hand thing down, and is good at being lifted and carried around. I was waiting for her to bust out with some moves though. Her singing was actually ok.

It's practically the exact same steps, how could you watch the clip and not see it? I am not a Katie Holmes fan ,, but I can see the similarities in her step and Judy's steps…it's even the same arm gestures
