Apple Shaking Up The iTunes Cocktail!

They want more of your money!!!!

Apple's iTunes has some major changes in store. According to reports, Apple and the four major record labels, Warner Music, EMI, Sony Music, and Universal Music Group, are teaming up to create virtual bundles with online interactive features in order to boost sales.

What does that mean????

The new project, named Cocktail, will include an interactive bundle, along with sleeve notes and features like photos, lyric sheets, and videos with the music downloads.

According to one exec, "It's all about recreating the heyday of the album when you would sit around with your friends looking at the artwork while you listened to the music."

Basically, you can play the songs directly from the interactive book and get a lot more included with your songs.

The new project is set to launch sometime in September.

Let's hope it's worth it!

      I'm all for it.

bad idea. Now what's the incentive to buy a physical copy. If people want the cd jacket, they go buy the record in the store. It's not the same and it's shocking that the labels are actually behind this..

If they do a Good job it could be Great!

I am from the old school of Interesting album covers etc.

I am looking forward to this innovation.

Who gives a shit about the artwork/band photos? If you want to bring those back, start bringing back an album that is worth listening to from beginning to end instead of throwing together a bunch of shit songs with 2 (or 3, if they're stretching it) songs worth downloading. I remember hanging for hours with friends going over the Styx album "Kilroy Was Here" (this was in '92-ish, mind you) because 1) the whole album kicked ass and 2) the band told a STORY.

Until the return of a true "album," the sleeve (and sitting around looking at it with friends) doesn't mean a g.damn thing.

does perez just copy and paste news stories? at least link to where you found the information.

there just going to make albums more expensive with all that bull crap i just want the music to be good idc what the album artwork or even the videos look like the art work could be pictures of perez's turds for all i care as long as the music is good i'll buy until then i'm downloading all my stuff illegally there i said it

sounds pretty cool, but i don't know, if iTunes hikes up the prices on these things they aren't going to sell. people will just purchase the album.

Re: PrinceD – Exactly PrinceD…it's just filler so they can charge more.

Of course it'll be worth it Perez you dumbass. People have been talking about this for a while now. Just go to some of the major Apple users websites. As usual, Apple is at the forefront of things, gets crapped on for it, and then other companies scramble to come up with something similar. Think "i"-everything, mp3 players, colored computers, etc etc.

I dig the idea of extras, but they really should work on making MP3's sound better as well. After they squish the hell out of them so fit more on their servers, they just sound like ass. Now pass me the laptop so I can see the art work on The Wall.

It's to coincide with the release of their new TABLET MAC/PC thingy. Just wait. Sounds gay now, but it will eat your face when announced.

    12. 12

Ummm… all I read was "Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah…. keep using Bit Torrent to download full CDs, lyrics, and album art for free … blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah"

    13. 13

cocktail is also the code word for the tablet which is also set to be release in september…

erm, P. ITunes already do an interactive book.
This is just another way for ITunes to raise its prices and us off, and EMI, Sony, Uni, oh and not to mention the scum bags from Warner (the ones that ruined youtube)

    15. 15

Good idea. iLike extra stuff that comes w/ albums! Only if the prices remain the same.

    16. 16

Anyone saying that Apple's doing this to get more of your money isn't informed. Apple has been fighting the music companies for years because they keep applying pressure to make Apple raise their prices per song. Apple has lowered their prices on their products with almost every new version of their line, while making their products better faster and more customer focused. Obviously trying to keep prices low on iTunes is self serving because it creates brand loyalty from the consumers but who cares if it benefits us? I predict that if this interactive book happens it will either be free or something you can pay to get, so if you don't want it buy it it will cost you nothing.

heyday would be to go back to vinyl. no ipod can top a good record. sorry….
