Skeazebag/American Apparel CEO Dov Charney is up to his piggy antics again: this time, he's reportedly laying off employees who he deems damaging to the "AA aesthetic." In other words, ugly people.
American Apparel's "aesthetic" is essentially retro-amateur porn, but with shiny spandex in place of boobs and bush.
According to an American Apparel employee, each week the company holds worldwide conference calls for store managers to discuss sales, displays, etc.
Recently, however, the calls took a less professional turn when Charney "went on a huge tirade and made stores that weren't doing so well send in group photos," so that he could judge who needed to be fired and who was sexy enough to stay on. The employee goes on to say that his comments about the employee's appearances were "childish," and "insulting." There is fear among the managers that if they don't adhere to his rules, they, too, will be fired.
Yikes!
This is gross, but not surprising. Charney's no stranger to controversy, and with his pervy ways, he kind of invites it. The American Apparel frontman has been the subject of multiple sexual harrassment lawsuits and allegations from both employees and acquaintances, and openly acknowledges that he encourages employees to be sexy, will freely sleep with employees, and he even loves sluts!

When I worked for Abercrombie, the District Manager would come in every six months or so and fire anyone she deemed too ugly.

This isn't anything new with American Apparel.
I had an interview once, but I couldn't even get the interview without sending in a photo of myself first. It was like a weird screening process to see if I was cute enough to even warrant an interview, let alone a job.
The guy is a major creep, but what can I say? I love the clothing.

I considered applying there but I started to do a little digging and this is nothing. Yawn. He has been doing this for a long time and worse. I can't stand their clothes. Sucks when bands choose AA for their shirts because it does not matter what size you get, you wash it once and it shrinks and is not wearable anymore. They pay well to the cutter's and sewing crew but they are illegals, why not hire the American citizens who need jobs. Plus they pay the sales people less than the people who make the clothes.
It's his fault sales are down.
If you treat your employees like trash, they're gonna treat your customers like trash, THEN the costumers aren't gonna buy the trash your selling.
Come to think of it, I've NEVER seen a smiling AA employee. It all makes sense now.

Re: Los Anjealous – Lmfao yea u are right. When I was 16 they wanted me to pose for one of their campaigns. Mind you I was a junior and they wanted me to pose in hot pants and a see through shirt. I was so pissed when i saw his face!
I worked at Hollister and they were already doing this. People had to be "look policy" as they call it, but the regional manager told the store managers to not give any hours to ugly people.

I really liked AA a few years back when they had good quality basic garments in a variety of colours that could match anything, and also because they claimed to be all about work ethics and fair trade.
But the clothes they sell nowadays are horrific, you can't look like anything else than a 70's slut in them. And work ethics my ass:
- factory workers hired black therefore without any protection
- sexual harassment
- firing people based on their looks
etc
This company sucks. Their employees should join the union and sue the hell out of that shady CEO.
