Kelly Copying Beyonce? No, Claims Clarkson
There have been some very loud whispers about the similarity between Kelly Clarkson's latest single, the very pretty Already Gone, and the ballad Halo by Beyonce.
Kelly is stating for the record that she is not a music thief - in fact, quite the opposite. The first Idol wrote Already Gone before Halo was even being produced. And the similarity, well we can thank songwriter/producer Ryan Tedder of One Republicfor that.
Kelly explains:
"Ryan and I met each other at the record label, before he was working with anyone else. He's from Oklahoma, I'm from Texas; we got along really well and had some of the same influences. We wrote about six songs together, four or five of them made the album. It was all fine and dandy. I'd never heard of a song called Halo..Her album came out when my album was already being printed. No one's gonna be sittin' at home, thinkin' 'Man, Ryan Tedder gave Beyonce and Kelly the same track to write to.' No, they're just gonna be sayin I ripped someone off. I called Ryan and said 'I don't understand. Why would you do that?'"
We hope Tedder has a good explanation for the mishap!!!!
The Since U Been Gone lady said she "fought and fought," to prevent her record lable from releasing Already Gone as a single, but she says "in the end, they're releasing it without my consent. It sucks, but it's one of those things I have no control over. I already made my album. At this point, the record company can do whatever they want with it. It's kind of a shitty situation, but…You know, you learn."
And even worse, rumor has it that Beowulf heard Kelly's demo of Already Gone and supposedly demanded that Tedder produce a similar tune for her and that they release her version quickly before Kelly could release Already Gone.
Yikes!
Hope the armpit mama wouldn't go that far, especially since Kelly tried to be considerate of her after the release of Halo.

The song was originally offered to Leona Lewis, it was later offered to Beyonce when Leona could not record the song due to some other crap. Beyonce isn't releasing singles 'fast', what she was doing was releasing double-A side singles, which rarely get released in the US anymore. It's when an artists releases two singles at the same time. "If I Were A Boy / Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)" and "Halo / Diva" were both released promotionally as Double A-side singles. "Broken Hearted Girl" was suppose to be released opposite of "Ego", but that shit got axed - thank God!

Well they do sound similar, but TONS of songs sound similar. And I actually believe Kelly's statement. I'm not a fan of Kelly or Beyonce, (not a pop fan) so I'm un biased. I know quite a few song writers, and its not exactly hard for them to go to different artists and say "Hey Ive got this song blah blah blah".

Honestly, it's the same chord progression, it's not the same song. There are literally 800 songs on the radio today with that SAME chord progression. It's easy, and it makes for fast song releases. It has nothing to do with creativity or musical genius, it all comes down to what people are used to listening to, and not new and original music.
Besides, three hundred years ago, it was considered the biggest form of flattery to include a portion of someone else's music. Mozart did it, and so did hundreds of other composers.

An insider at RCA said that Kelly and Ryan share the same songwriting credits which means Kelly had a hand at both the lyrics AND the melody. This doesn't surprise me at all since Kelly has always been both a singer and a songwriter. Her ASCAP award for Because of You proves that. She has written many other awesome songs including Sober, Maybe, and Walk Away.
Funny thing is I think "Halo" sucks but I LOVE "Already Gone".
