Kelly Copying Beyonce? No, Claims Clarkson
There have been some very loud whispers about the similarity between Kelly Clarkson's latest single, the very pretty Already Gone, and the ballad Halo by Beyonce.
Kelly is stating for the record that she is not a music thief - in fact, quite the opposite. The first Idol wrote Already Gone before Halo was even being produced. And the similarity, well we can thank songwriter/producer Ryan Tedder of One Republicfor that.
Kelly explains:
"Ryan and I met each other at the record label, before he was working with anyone else. He's from Oklahoma, I'm from Texas; we got along really well and had some of the same influences. We wrote about six songs together, four or five of them made the album. It was all fine and dandy. I'd never heard of a song called Halo..Her album came out when my album was already being printed. No one's gonna be sittin' at home, thinkin' 'Man, Ryan Tedder gave Beyonce and Kelly the same track to write to.' No, they're just gonna be sayin I ripped someone off. I called Ryan and said 'I don't understand. Why would you do that?'"
We hope Tedder has a good explanation for the mishap!!!!
The Since U Been Gone lady said she "fought and fought," to prevent her record lable from releasing Already Gone as a single, but she says "in the end, they're releasing it without my consent. It sucks, but it's one of those things I have no control over. I already made my album. At this point, the record company can do whatever they want with it. It's kind of a shitty situation, but…You know, you learn."
And even worse, rumor has it that Beowulf heard Kelly's demo of Already Gone and supposedly demanded that Tedder produce a similar tune for her and that they release her version quickly before Kelly could release Already Gone.
Yikes!
Hope the armpit mama wouldn't go that far, especially since Kelly tried to be considerate of her after the release of Halo.

The production is similar but the songs are completely different, which is to be expected when you have the same producer but different artists. The Clarkson song puts Beyonce to shame — anyone who listens to Already Gone after they've heard Halo has to admit that Kelly did it better.
they are a little similar but not that much. I like Already Gone wayy better anyways. Halo gets on my last nerve! plus most songs sound the same these days anyways.

Halo is an okay song, but Already Gone is fantastic. The fact the two are being compared (even if Halo was released first) is not benefiting Beyonce in the least. It just makes it obvious that Kelly is the more talented singer.

If anybody stole anything it's Beyonce! She's stolen a lot of stuff in the past or taken credit for something she didn't do. However, I don't think the songs are similar enough to warrant this concern.

This to me sounds like leona lewis' "Better in Time." I think Kelly put her own taste to the melody of this song though and I like it. Although I'm not really a fan of Kelly this year but this is pretty good. You'd be surprised how many songs are the same damn thing.

Team Kelly all the way- her story seems genuine and I too am eager to hear what Ryan Tedder has to say about this (though chances are he won't say anything in order to prevent dissing either singer). Kelly's lyrics are far superior to Beyonce's, and so is her voice…I never liked Beyonce anyway so if this breaks out that she stole it from Kelly, I hope her career goes down the drain because that is just fucked up…
However, I do have to agree with the poster who said this wouldn't have happened if "artists" would produce their own tracks!

SUPPOSEDLY after Beyonce heard Kelly's demo of Already Gone she wanted a song like it and that's when Ryan changed the production of Halo and essentially made it Already Gone 2.0.
If this is all true, and I don't know if Beyonce actually demanded to get the song out quickly before Kelly, but either way Kelly was fucked in this situation. Her song probably won't be as huge as it could have been because Halo already had a lot of success.

But, I have a friend who interned for Leona Lewis's production team, who worked on the songs for the re-release of her album. And the demo sent to Leona of "Halo" sounded identical to the one Beyonce did, with some minor alterations with lyrics. I doubt Beyonce would go to that length to say, make me 2.0… And to the people who say Beyonce snatched it from Leona, that's some crap I know for a fact. According to my friend, Leona didn't even hear the full track. And there were several songs sent to her for the re-release, out of them, she recorded about seven for a re-release. "Halo" didn't come till a bit later, and she had no time to record the song, due to international release dates of her singles, and having to promote them. Apparently her management made the final decision on the recording.
all of these stupid pop songs sound the same anyways, you can only refresh the same stupid beat so many times before it all sounds the same. This stuff isn't music, it's garbage created by a machine, and churned out by these puppet artists trying to make money.
there aren't similarities in the two songs and beyonce is always copying people's songs. Ciara came out with her hit "like a boy" and then years later beyonce came out with "if i was a boy." its the same exact song! beyonce needs to die already. Kelly's awesome and always has different music than anyone else out there. :]

The two songs are not enough alike for anyone to bitch about stealing music. To me they sound alot different. The drum part is really alll that sounds the similiar and that's not stealing music at all.
They have the same tempo, but it doesn't sound like she was stealing from the Halo song. I think that it is just a coincidence that both songs have the same tempo and pace. That's not stealing a song — and not plagiarism or illegal.
I am so surprised that these two songs supposedly sound similar..cause they don't to me at all..I bought both of those albums, and I love both songs, and When i heard already gone it was actually my favorite song on the album and I didnt for one second think it sounded like "halo"…thats really odd..and I love Kelly and beyonce and Ryan teder for that matter!

I beleive Kelly, and I like her version better. The backing track IS the same; B just dressed hers up with more piano. I hope Kel doesn't feel too bad about this.
