i believe it's merce…nice try honoring the dead legend
RIP

TEAM JON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so sad! and perez, you spelt his name wrong: it's Merce instead of Mece
And this news gets so little attention compared to Michael Jackson. Merce was a giant of contemporary art of our time. It tells you what we value here in the USA….
Condolences to his loved ones.
That guy was amazing! Got to see him dance twice many years ago. Will never forget it.
Re: Jenfraud – Well, clearly one artist was much better known internationally, and here, than the other. You're comparing apples and oranges.
I saw Merce perform once in the early 80s in NYC. He was already arthritic, but still impressive to watch. I never saw MJ live, but I do have his albums.
It is possible to appreciate both artists, and it needn't become a pissing match.
And now it's George Russell… RIP
You seriously need to drop the "X years young" bullshit. Especially on the obituaries of people who die of OLD age.
RIP! It was a wonderful life!
it's really sad.. he was a great choreographer and dancer of the modern/contemporary dance. such a legend!
So sweet:
A message received from Trisha Brown:
I am filled with great sorrow upon the loss of dear Merce. We all adored him. Merce and I were transports from the West Coast and shared a connection through our roots in the Pacific Northwest. Our houses were accustomed to speaking old Chinook jargon, a dialect of the Indian sea traders in Washington. It’s based largely on Nootka which is used as a lingua franca from Alaska to Oregon. For me, Merce will always be a Tillicum, which translates as "old friend."
Re: caroaber – one thing is for sure. he might not be as mainstream but 100 years from now, Cunningham will still be remembered for his revolutionary contribution to the arts. Jackson, not so much.
