True Blood: The Drink!

Someone in the marketing department wised up, but we're not too sure how this idea will fare.

True Blood, the raunchy, graphic, all-around good time vampire TV series on HBO, is tailored to folks who are psyched about vampire lore but would rather not watch Robert Pattinson sparkle in the sun. Unlike that franchise, however, True Blood has yet to bank on their vast appeal with consumers. Until now.

Fans, get ready to get your drink on with a new beverage modeled after the bloody drinks consumed by star vampire Bill in the series. It's slated for release in September and stupidly ingeniously called the Tru Blood drink. The packaging will resemble the bottles for the synthetic blood beverage found on the show, and while the creator of the show, Allan Ball, jests that the drink will be a fine mix of "wine, vodka, Vicodin, Viagra and ecstasy", it will actually be a flavorful, blood orange soda.

Yum!

Be forewarned, though, vamp-wannabes: these drinks will cost you. For a 4 pack of these things, you'll shell out $16.

Is it worth it? We don't think so!

      It's actually an INGENIOUS IDEA! They're being rolled out right before the season finale, so if anything… it has an immediate market. PRE-ORDERING is $16 for a 4/pack, that doesn't say anything for the actual price on the shelf.

      "and (stupidly) ingeniously called the Tru Blood drink." - The drink has always been called Tru Blood since the first book came out in May 2001. The series was simply a pun on the drink name. It makes perfect sense for it to be called such.

      Re: FrellinDren – Actually, in the first book Tru Blood wasn't invented yet, it was another brand, Tru Blood the brand came from the 2nd book. The first book is titled "Dead Until Dark"

      And how is it that a RED colored drink is being flavored ORANGE? wtf? Whether or not the marketing is late, I think this is a great idea for a drink anyways, Vampires have been popular well before they started to sparkle.

      Re: michaelfight – My bad. I tend to get all of the books confused.. it's been a long time since I read them all and the series has a way of mixing them up (in a good way). :) I was only trying to defend the name of the drink, since Perez seemed to not get it.

      Blood oranges are an amazing fruit.. try it some time…you'll see why they chose it as the flavor. Plus, can't go wrong when the fruit has the word 'blood' in it. I wonder if it sells well, if they'll come out with different flavors for the different blood types.

      I don't see anything wrong with them selling a drink that is the exact replica of what they use on the show. I mean they do sell a whole bunch of other stuff on the HBO website that is similar to what is used on the show anyway. I actually find it pretty neat and the drink will be more of thing people will just have because they love the show like myself. However, what I'm more excited about is the next half of this season which looks so good!!!! I'm in love with Sam, Eric, Jason and Bill. Those guys have have good chops when it comes to acting skills but the girls and the other guys have some pretty good acting skills.

      I am in love with both Twilight AND TrueBlood.
      I think that Twilight gives all of us girls hope to such a relationship that Edward and Bella have.
      While in Trueblood its much more for only adults, whereas Twilight is for a wide range of fans.

      It is Blood Orange, which is an a actual type of orange that is purply red in color. The flavor of a Blood orange is a little different than regular oranges, they are delicious.
