Tanning Beds Are As Dangerous As Arsenic!

Tanning salon enthusiasts, listen up!
The Associated Press is reporting that cancer experts have reassessed the danger of tanning beds and the results are not good. They are likening the cancer risk from tanning beds to arsenic and mustard gas.
Yikes!!
Fake baking now joins tobacco, hepatitis B, and chimney sweeping on the list of known causes of cancer.
A new analysis of about 20 studies makes clear that the risk of skin cancer jumps a whopping 75% when people start using tanning beds before age 30.
And, while scientists had previously thought that only one type of ultraviolet radiation was lethal, not so, as it turns out: in studies, all types of ultraviolet radiation caused scary mutations in mice, confirming that all ultraviolet radiation are carcinogens. UV radiation is used in tanning beds and is now known to cause skin and eye cancer.
Eye cancer?! Super scary.
What's more, as use of tanning beds has increased over the years in people under 30, and a recent study in Britain shows that melanoma (the deadliest skin cancer of all), which historically is most prevalent in people over 75, is now the leading cancer diagnosed in women in their 20s.
Holy shitballs! This is seriously scary.
Stay out of the tanning beds, bbs! Cancer is not something to mess with.
And just as a friendly reminder from the American Cancer Association - remember that all types of ultraviolet exposure can lead to cancer, so wear sunscreen when you hit the beaches, too!

Some self-tanners that work are: Sevin Nyne by Lame Lohan, Quick-Tan Spray and St. Tropez… Make sure you get a good mist and mist it over your body, don't spray one spot and rub… NOT CUTE!!
Some self-tanners that work are: Sevin Nyne by Lame Lohan, Quick-Tan Spray and St. Tropez… Make sure you get a good mist and mist it over your body, don't spray one spot and rub… NOT CUTE!! Oh and BTW, something else they aren't telling you is that you do NEED the sun.. people with skin cancer are now afraid of the sun and are lacking the Vitamin D that ONLY THE SUN PRODUCES and FIGHTS CANCER… oh the IRONY… Everyone educate yourselfs on BOTH SIDES!!
Don't believe the hype!
They'll learn it was a mistake when they get older and the wrinkles start to set in!
Use of sunscreens has increased dramatically in the last 30 years and so has skin cancer - doesn't anyone see a connection? 10-15 minutes of sunshine every day on as much skin as possible is what we need. No sunscreen (those chemicals are baking on your skin, doing god knows what). Don't put fake stuff on your skin to get a tan. Don't use tanning beds. Be responsible and moderate about sunshine and you'll be healthier. We need the vitamin D3 from sunshine and we're depriving ourselves of it.
Only light complexion people have to worry?!? Give me a break! I am a dark skinned latina, and I was diagnosed with melanoma at 28. People would comment how easily I tan and that I shouldn't have to worry about the risk…well, they were ALL wrong! My dermatologist told me that he is shocked by how many people out there think if you are dark skinned that you are not at risk. KEEP IN MIND THAT BOB MARLEY DIED OF ACRAL LENTIGIOUS MELANOMA WHICH AFFECTS MAINLY BLACKS AND HISPANICS. It sucks way worse having cancer than being pale. No more tanning beds or baking for me….I warn every one out there - white, black, hispanic, asian - you are at risk of getting skin cancer not matter what color you are.
Thanks Perez for such an informative article. I am going to forward it to some teens I know….
I'm naturally dark skinned all year round and I use sun screen, so I'm good…..
I was diagnosed with melanoma when I was 16 (was caught very early), had never been to a tanning bed or badly burned before in my life. And not to bum anyone out but there are certain forms of melanomia that dark skinned people can get too… Tanning just sucks, stay pale.
No shit… I learned fast to keep my face out of the sun.. I don't want to be worn and leathery looking when i'm 40… it ages you so fast
I was born tan! HA HA!!!
Re: PLEZZZ – That isn't true, skin cancer can be diagnosed in anyone although it is more LIKELY to cause cancer in lighter skinned people probably because they feel the need to spend the time to get tan so they're in the UV light for longer periods of time and the lack of melanin in the skin allows the rays to penetrate deeper.. I'm not sure exactly what but it makes it worse. But that doesn't mean if you have naturally dark skin you're immune!!! If you're outside a lot or if you do go tanning to get even darker you still have to be careful because it will have the same effects.
yes tanning is dangerous! the real sun is too! GET A SPRAY TAN FROM SUNSET TAN!
Hello!! Didn't people see Final Destination 3?? ;P Remember that one Perez? lol!!
I told absolutely everyone this. No one listened. I'm looking forward to seeing the bitches get eye cancer that just sounds juicy.
Re: always_classy –
hahaha You aren't very smart are you? Look up some facts and statistics on lung cancer and skin cancer. You probably look like an oompa loompa or a muppet anyways. You'll look hot with cancer don't worry.
good thing i'm naturally tan. haha!
Re: RAWRosaur –
Yes I'm furreal. I'm not saying burn yourself, I'm saying go outside and enjoy life, not spending time in some tanning bed transforming yourself into an oompa loompa. You gotta be kiddin me. Put some sun tan lotion of your so scared.
People need to stop wantng to people a color they are not..and just love the skin they are in. Thank god I'm tan to start with but even if i wa spasty white i would stay pasty white
WHY DO GIRLS TAN THEIR SKIN? IT LOOKS FAKE AND DISGUSTING. Hope fully this is a wake up call. I have a bit of a cig addiction so I guess I shouldn't be talking…but at least i'll never set foot in a tanning bed!
And Thats Why iDont Tan Plus Yu End up looks orange and S&^t
scary
Thank God for Mystic Tan!!!
no more tanning for me
So its OD to go bananas about the dangers of tanning machines, but not OK to talk about the fact that the gay lifestyle is far more likely to end up in death or permanent disability, and at an earlier age, than years on ultraviolet?
death is death. Gays are bullheaded liars pretending they can't make a wise decision to not sleep with other men. And they look mighty stupid doing what they do.
Of course, one could wear a raincoat when they go to the tanning salon and pretend they wont get facial melanoma?
haha my sister is in that pic!
Tanning is just stupid…and people that can't see that baking yourself between UV bulbs at such a close proximity is BAD!!
I'm pretty sure that people already knew about tanning beds being bad for you. Anyway, business has yet to slow down at my tanning salon.
Wow, what a bunch of crap.. check it out at lookingfit.com smarttan.com or google international tanning association for LOTS of articles:
IARC cited its own report alleging "risk of skin melanoma is increased by 75 per cent when people started using tanning beds before age 30." Ignored in this statement is confounding information pointing out that:
• IARC's analysis was flawed. When the palest individuals who cannot tan (called Skin Type I - people who are not allowed to tan in North American tanning facilities) were removed from the IARC data set, there was no increase in risk for the group being studied.
• In fact, 18 of 22 studies on this topic show no statistically signficant relationship between indoor tanning and melanoma - including the largest and most recent study.
"Ignoring conflicting information in the publication of a report and elevating your conclusion without bringing confounding information to light constitutes academic fraud," Levy said. "This report presents no new data, ignores confounding information and attempts to reach a new conclusion with no new information. While it remains prudent for individuals to avoid sunburn, it should be noted that there is NO RESEARCH suggesting that non-burning UV exposure is a significant risk factor for humans. None."
1. This list means nothing more than SUNBURN is harmful. There's no research suggesting that non-burning exposure is harmful.
2. Many of the parties promoting this list have ties to the $35 billion sunscreen industry, which wants you to over-use their product.
3. Saying that ultraviolet light causes skin cancer and therefore should be avoided is just like saying water causes drowning and therefore should be avoided. You need water in order to live and survive - just as you need ultraviolet light in order to live and survive.
4. By including UV light on a list of carcinogens without making the statement clear that overexposure, and not mere exposure, is the danger, the makers of this list have made a glaring and fraudulent omission.
Re: PLEZZZ –
its true, I read a study saying this study only applied when they kept the skin type I individuals in the study.. skin type I clients at salons are only eligible for spray tan not uv tanning. when this group was removed from the study there was no risk increase for everyone else! see smarttan.com or lookingfit.com for articles.
