Dan Rather Wants Obama To Fix His Problems

Filed under: Politik > Barack Obama

Dan Rather wants President Barack Obama to shell out a few pearls of wisdom on how to save the journalism industry.  In a speech at the Aspen Institute in Aspen, CO on July 28th, Rather said "I personally encourage the president to establish a White House commission on public media."

Oh, well if you personally encourage him, of course he'll do it!

Rather thinks that "corporate and political influence," on journalists has hurt the industry, which he called "the red beating heart of democracy and freedom."

Yeah, Dan, we're sure he'll get right on that.  Forget foreign policy, health care, and the economy. Fix just this one industry!

We think the president has better things to worry about, homeboy.

P.S. Don't forget about gay rights, Obama!!!!!

Yeah, PEREZ, we're sure he'll get right on that. Forget foreign policy, health care, and the economy. Fix just this one ISSUE, GAY RIGHTS!

We think the president has better things to worry about, homeboy.

P.S. Don't forget about JOURNALISM, Obama!!!!!

Perez, I hope you realize your "PS" regarding gay rights completely made you look like a hypocrite in regards to your entire post on this matter and how it is not THAT important compared to the bigger struggles our nation faces. Gay rights is in the same boat as journalism in terms of priority. Personally, as a gay man, I would rather see Obama tackle the economy, foreign policy, and health care for the time being and solve the other stuff later.

    3. 3

Why wouldn't he expect Obama to help him? Everyone else is expecting a hand-out. Personally, I prefer when you stick to covering celebrity gossip and not politics.

    4. 4

I know quite a few homosexuals and bisexuals who think you are the biggest disgrace. Just saying.

    5. 5

THIS IS BULLSHIT STUPID IDIOTS…EVERYTHING THEY PRINT IS A LIE EVERYTHING ON TV IS A LIE

    6. 6

      UGH FUCK YOU PEREZ
NOW I FEEL BAD FOR MY LAST FUCKING POST
      FUCK

    8. 8

This from the idiot that got fired for running a half assed story on Bush!If I was Obama I wouldn't even return his calls.Let him figure it out.

    9. 9

It should be obvious that Obama doesn't walk on water. He cannot do it all. I *still* know people who lost their jobs (and soon, their homes) and can't find new ones. My kid *still* cannot refinance her mortgage because she pays on time:(( It's still a topsy turvey world!

    10. 10

I personally don't think that Perez should even be discussing things like this on his blog.
Leave politics to Fox News and CNN.
And our health care system is perfectly fine so I think the president can forget about that.

    11. 11

I completely and totally agree with the first 3 guys. Thank you! We have waaaaayyy more important things to worry about right now than gay marriage. I'm not saying it's not important, but it's just not as critical as, oh, health care, the war we are still fighting, and oh, let's not forget the massive economy and environmental problems! I think gay marriage can take a back seat for the time being!

    12. 12

Dan Rather is obviously a bigger idiot than I imagined. Asking someone from the government how to reform the media - you gotta be kidding! The government (BOTH Democrats and Republicans) would dearly LOVE to be able to do whatever they want without media scrutiny!

Good lord. First you dont do your own posts…you said in a lawsuit that you dont even write this stuff. Your sister does. To your sister:

Obama is going to present a posthumous Medal of Freedom to Harvey Milk. So there you go…your gay issues addressed.

and as for your savior Obama having other things to do…why in the world is the "Beer Summit" going on right now? Please…by now dont know you if you provide a pre-written speech and a photo op…it will get attention.

Do ANY research on stuff you know nothing about…which seems to be everything.

    14. 14

Actually, alleviating the problems in journalism would make framing better foreign, health care, and economic policy a lot easier. Journalism informs citizens about what is happening in government, and due to unbalanced corporate influence on the media, citizens are incredibly uninformed when they go to the voting booths to choose policy makers that shape reform. Obama working on a cleaner media would be extraordinarily important, as it is so connected to every facet of our society…including gay rights.

Ironically enough the "news" blogged on this site is more honest than a lot of what is reported on seemingly more legitimate news outlets…which should frighten the hell out of all of us.

    15. 15

Dan Rather is right. The "media" is influencing our politics and the way we think. The integrity in journalism is all but gone. You can't trust what you watch or hear on the news. Perez wouldn't like a law like that since he'd be subject to similar guidelines, considering he's the 'queen of all media'.

      16

Haha, what a joke! Hussein got to be president exactly because the special interests and big corporations were backing him up and they needed the corrupt media with its lack of journalistic integrity to be their accomplices.Hillarious!

    17. 17

rather…one of the biggest asses of all time..a liar and a whiner…and cronkite hated him…couric hates him…let him just fade away already..

    18. 18

Bias is what hurt the mainstreet media. For example, Dan Rather's inaccurate report on George W. Bush. We turned away from traditional media sources because it was no longer reliable. You're part of the problem, Dan. A big part.

    19. 19

White House commission on public media?
We had one just like that in USSR.
It's an infringement on freedom of the press.
Did majority in this country ready to give up being free for being nice, and fair, and politically correct, o, and environmentally aware, of course?
It looks like americans are saying:
"Screw our rights and freedoms,we just want to be liked, and accepted by the world community, and taken care of by our holy government.
We want our press to be checked on by White House commission, our president to tell us how much everyone should make to spread the wealth around evenly. We want our doctors to be told by government how to treat us right. We want government control over what we drive, eat, drink, smoke and who we marry."

    20. 20

Rather is one of the folks who turned his eye away from objective journalism and pandered to special interests. Who is he to call the industry screwed up? I met Dan 30-something years ago when he had integrity and ambition. I was and still am sorry to have seen him cave. Obama will never try to encourage freedom of the press. It's the press that got him elected. Talk about the rooster in the hen house. Gimme a break!

    21. 21

Re: trustfoxx – our health care system is fine? what world are you living in? so i guess you like paying for high bills?!

    22. 22

journalism/ is that what Rather calls it? I thought people called it lying and presenting bullshit as news. Peole have millions of news sources todat, why watch Rather.

    23. CaraC says – reply to this

      23

Hahahahaha, Dan Rather speaking about journalistic integrity. He is one of the main perpetrators of journalistic dishonesty of the worst kind. Doesn't he remember he used FORGED DOCUMENTS to try to smear President Bush and kept pointing to the documents long after they were proven to be forged?
      .
And Obama to be the person to fix journalistic fraud? Obama's political career is DUE to journalistic fraud. If the American people had been told the truth about his Marxism, his years of work alongside communists, terrorists and those determined to end capitalism (and therefore freedom) in America, he would still be a community agitator in Chicago and not the President of the United States.

    24. 24

      Idiot.
Without journalists, you won't know about foreign policy, health care, and the economy!
      .

    25. 25

HMmm he could always write all he "knows" about the Kennedy Assassination. Being in the right place at the right time makes for a long career

    26. 26

OBAMA is not for gay rights. Jesus. He always claimed to be in favor of civil unions, but not gay marriage. If your fat ass had ever left your computer and watched a Presidental debate you would know this. Damn, I myself am for gay rights, but I don't believe in slandering those who don't. Besides, my gay friends think you are a douche.

All of the smaller independent stations got gobbled up by corporate monoliths, and then the calibre and level of reporting suffered and appeared to some to be quashed along with this development. Interesting to note that small, start up independent and influence free net and other media have been/are doing well. Dr. David Suzuki (Canadian scientist) has talked of the theory about the natural order of things; a tree grows really large, and then naturally starts to die out, but as it does it throws off seedlings, and as that big tree nears its end, the little trees grow up out in the shadow and the fertilizer from the old, big tree's destruction. The theory is, of course, the circle of life, and it applies to more than just trees. Big, bloated news organizations will make way for smaller, younger, fresher, keener and leaner sources.

    28. 28

…this post is horrifically ignorant, especially considering the fact that in very loose terms, perezhilton.com is a part of the media/journalism and relays information to the public. the founding fathers of our country required states who wanted to join the union to have a certain number of newspapers to make sure their inhabitants were informed, for crying out loud. i'm so embarrassed for this website right now.

    29. 29

      AMERICA

The day that an American Journalist is held hostage in a jail cell with no charges and no phone call to his/her family or lawyer…is the day you can kiss your free rights good bye. Oh wait…haha! You idiots! That has already happened.

PEREZ if you had a fucking clue which you don't you would understand that freedom has been taken away from Journalists in such a way that you are nearly a criminal for unearthing illegal political activity and you are held as if you are a criminal, when in reality you have unearthed one that has too much power which they have abused.

SEE THE REAL ISSUE YOU IDIOTS and WAKE UP! THE AMERICA that you forefathers fought for is lost…and by the time you had America to your next children…it will be fucking LOST.

      Good luck!!!

THE ONLY PROMISE THAT OBAMA has stuck to was releasing life term prisoners who were under TERRORIST watch list…isn't he sweet!?? He called it a release if prisoners who were being held and tortured and he wanted to END torture lol.

THAT is the ONLY PROMISE that he has kept since he's been elected President. Take a look at it yourself, why don't you people realize that is happening to your country? How could you all be so idiotic.

OBAMA HAS NOT KEPT A SINGLE PROMISE!!!! The reason that you have NOT realized this is because of his quick and precise wording while giving interviews. I mean the ugy is a MEDIA LOVER, he should have just gone in to acting…I mean 7 televised national annoucements in 6 months…that's excessive…..

JUST because you hear from him as often as you do…does not mean that he's actually doing his job…

YOU GUYS ARE BEING GROOMED FOR THE NEW WORLD ORDER, as in a WORLD WIDE GOVERNMENT. They are conditioning you to accept it and eat it….so good luck

    31. 31

Well, Obama could just invite everyone over to the White House for a self-serving beer summit, then he can buzz it up for weeks, putting his face all over T.V., and feeding the country another snake-charmer sound byte about how he's working on it and everyone needs to cut *HIM* some slack. News flash, Obama. You wanted the job. If you can't learn to shut your big mouth about matters that are none of your business, you can damn well expect to apologize for your mistakes, and yes I'm talking about his big fat blurt about cops behaving stupidly. He admitted in the same interview that he didn't even have all the facts, and here he was passing judgment on people he didn't know. Then he refused to apologize, instead using it to hype *HIMSELF* up, yet again. Barack Obama, it is becoming more and more clear with each passing day, is more concerned with making himself look good than fixing the country's problems.

    32. 32

journalism industry is"the red beating heart of democracy and freedom" ROFLMAO, actually its the complete opposite, main stream media has become the unofficial public relations for our government, just look how they used it to get the guy they wanted elected, and its far from promoting free thinking or freedom, because anytime someone on television questions our gov't they are labeled a conspiracy theorist nutjob on the nightly news,if the so-called journalist industry is failing its because people are waking up and realizing these journalist are just a bunch of over payed actors repeating lies on television.

    33. 33

Perez you sound like an ignorant moron on this one. Correcting the disfunction in the media would lead to better informed citizens, which would lead to better public policy. I know you only understand celebrity BS, but you should spend some of that money on some education. I recommend a couple of journalism courses and political science. Love ya, Cents.

    34. 34

Here is a pearl of wisdom about how to fix the "journalism industry": How about actually reporting the events of the day instead of constantly shouting propaganda on one side or the other? I'd rather get my news from Perez Hilton than from Dan Rather and his robotoid colleagues.

    35. 35

dude omaba has not given a fuck about anything but spending our money dont u see that perez he can give a shit abotu gay rights

    36. 36

Bigger things to worry about?! We're talking about "I just looooove to see my dumb ass on TV Obama" here! The press is the ONLY thing he worries about. Of course he'll jump right on that, it'll make headlines!!! It'll be "historic"!! Fuck that moron.

    37. 37

obama is the effin problem;) ya'll wanted to make history! oh yeah make a huge stink about the first black president.. and he aint doin shit! but buyin himself a dog:|

    38. 38

gay rights huh ? Other than marriage how are gays discriminated against beyond what any ethnic group gets discriminated ? Fuck you Perez and your whole homosexual agenda, when the time comes, gays will get their marriage or w/e

    39. 39

Speaking about gay rights… why does Amazon have a "gay and lesbian" section but not a heterosexual section…. or mentally challenged section…. or beatiality section…. So many labels but not enough space? Feel anutter beer summit coming on!

No, Perez is mainly an entertainment gossip site.
You don't come here for that kind of news.
The world is a village now. T.V., Internet, country wide newspaper and magazine delivery…That was when horses had miles to cover between the nearest towns.
If the country goes off the grid again, that will work.

    41. 41
