Eddie Izzard Hates His Knees, Loves Charity

British actor and comedian Eddie Izzard is serious about raising money for Sport Relief, a fundraising organization that donates money raised to impoverished people in the UK and abroad. The comic is going to run over 1000 miles over 7 weeks in hopes of raising money. That's a ridiculous 30 miles a day - more than marathon length. To top it off, Izzard's publicist, Karon Maskill, describes him as "not a runner," but says that this is "an idea that's been bubbling for 10 years."
The funnyman only began training 4 weeks ago and has already incurred minor injuries, including hamstring and shin troubles during training, as well as whatever's going on with his knee today.
Loco!!!
Izzard is trailed by an ice cream van which gives out ice cream in hopes of garnering donations, and a camper van with two tents and a sports therapist.
We're all for raising money for charity and whatnot, but this is crazy! People train for months to run marathons and he's planning on running more than a marathon day after day after day. That's just flat out not good for your body - no one is meant to run that much. His poor knees! Does he seriously think he can do that? Or is he just trying to get attention?
Either way, it's an admirable cause.

He is crazy. Needs years of training. Kevin Kline (DJ on Houston Radio) is running 482 miles in December for www.stridesacrosstexas.com He has been training for years to accomplish this feat.
If he makes this, he will be a broken man.
You might want to check your math. 1000 miles over 7 weeks (49 days) is just over 20 miles a day, not 30. Still a ridiculous amount of running!
His legs look pretty developed for a non athlete
but his gut looks very typical of one
This is why I love my beekeeper! Go Eddie!
i went out with his nephew and if he's anything like him he should be shot along with his nephew.
hes irish
I love him. .heart.
I love Eddie Izzard! Good luck, man!
yeah…he just wants attention…you ass!
Only you could find something wrong with someone exercising! Even if it IS for charity.
eddie is the best! go eddie, go!!
Re: ajesskitty – Umm…Eddie doesn't have any nephews, dear. He's mentioned in an interview with Jonathan Ross that he has nieces. So yes, whoever you went out with does need to be shot, as he misrepresented himself.
holy crap, i don't regonize him without all the makeup !
two words….Terry Fox….look it up!
I love Ezzie! He's so amazing!
He's a little on the crazy side, but that's what makes him awesome!
Re: soupy87 – I don't know why my comment never showed up but Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope was exactly what I thought of as well.
There was also the Great American Footrace (dubbed the Bunion Derby) in 1928, won by Andy Payne who is honored with a marathon named after him in Oklahoma. He had no long distance running experience and only high school track experience when he won the race that ran from Los Angeles to New York along the old historic route 66. So, yes, it can be done, Eddie's a grown man, and I just hope he listens to his body so he can see the whole run through since he's going to do it to help people in poverty.
I absolutely LOVE Eddie Izzard! He's so funny! Especially when he's in drag!
You're an arse, you know that?
This man is doing something, trying to make the world a better place, and you write it off as attention seeking?
You're unbelievable.
Go Eddie! I love him!
perez, you're just jealous b/c you're too fat to even think about doing that
I love it and him!! GO EDDIE!!!
I saw him today, running, stopped and had photo taken. He was rather lovely.
