Twilight Recast: Summit Entertainment Responds To Rachelle's Response!
This is getting heated!
Summit Entertainment, the studio responsible for the Twilight films, released a statement attacking accusations made by recently ousted actress Rachelle Lefevre on why her part of Victoria was recast.
The studio claims that she made some hasty scheduling decisions, stating:
"We at Summit Entertainment are disappointed by Rachelle Lefevre’s recent comments which attempt to make her career choices the fault of the Studio. Her decision to discuss her version of the scheduling challenges publicly has forced the Studio to set the record straight and correct the facts.
Ms. Lefevre's representatives were advised as early as April that THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE was expected to start shooting in early August.If Ms. Lefevre was, as she describes “passionate,” about being part of THE TWILIGHT SAGA, we feel that she and her representatives would have included us in her decision to work on another film that would conflict with the shooting schedule of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE.
It was not until July 20th that Summit was first informed of Ms. Lefevre’s commitment to BARNEY’S VERSION, a commitment we have since been advised she accepted in early June. Summit had acted in good faith that she would be available to fulfill her obligations both in terms of rehearsals and shooting availability for THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE. We feel that her choice to withhold her scheduling conflict information from us can be viewed as a lack of cooperative spirit which affected the entire production.
Furthermore Ms. Lefevre took a role in the other film that places her in Europe during the required rehearsal time, and at least ten days of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE’s principal photography. This period is essential for both rehearsal time with the cast, and for filming at key locations that are only available during the initial part of production.
Contrary to Ms. Lefevre’s statement, it is simply untrue that the Studio dismissed her over a ten day overlap. It is not about a ten day overlap, but instead about the fact that THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE is an ensemble production that has to accommodate the schedules of numerous actors while respecting the established creative vision of the filmmaker and most importantly the story.The fact remains that Ms. Lefevre’s commitment to the other project - which she chose to withhold from Summit until the last possible moment - makes her unfortunately unavailable to perform the role of Victoria in THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE.

I think is complete crap expecially when James (played by Cam Gigandet) had other commmitments whilst filming the first movie that summit made work by moving his scenes around to fit his schedule!!!! Anyone who knows anything about shooting a major film can tell you 10 days of principal photography is a LONG time. That's when everyone is there and it's the most expensive phase of film production, as well as the point of no return for financiers. If she bailed on 10 days of that she had to know she was GONE. A stupid move on her part to try to hide it.

and this actress should have done things opposite. had her indie contract written to read that she will be able to film it when she is not filming Twilight, not figuring that a large cast could shoot around someone that is not the lead. what if 4 or 5 of the actors came up to the producers with these demands? Jeszy - She prob personally knew NOTHING re cross-over of schedules and this is all news to her. Her AGENT deals with all this stuff. It's their responsibility to make sure that projects DON'T overlap and communication with studios is thorough! So she would not have been aware of any conflict/crossover until she herself received her schedule. Again from her AGENT. Sounds to me like THEY got a little greedy (commission) and got her signed to as many projects as possible forgetting all about the small print! The poor girl. I am sorry but this is in-excusable and has cost her dearly. If my agent did this to me. She would be instantly fired! In fact from now on I think I will ask for my schedules ahead of time to see if any overlap. It really has opened my eyes to how indespensable us actors are to big studios. Um, that "raggedy indie film" is based on Barney's Version by renowned Canadian author Mordechai Richler. Lefevre, being from Montreal, would consider participating in this film an honor. Also, Dustin Hoffman and Paul Giamatti are cast in the movie. I'm thinking she'd much prefer to have the opportunity to act with real actors, rather than the ones in Twilight. Upgrade.

Please!!! Everyone knows what really happened. Ron Howard's daughter wanted a part in the Twilight film, and Summit Entertainment did not want to sour the possibility of a future project with him. They didn't want to insult Howard by giving his daughter a "bit part", and they couldn't re-write the script or replace one of the big names. Instead, they took advantage of the fact that Lafevre was scheduled to do an indie film to let her go and give her role to Ron Howard's precious little princess. That movie of Lefevre's could not have conflicted with Twilight's filming in a serious manner. Like Perez said, who in their right mind would risk Twilight for a raggedy indie film!

Oh Puh-LEEZE, the studio most likely never released it's schedule, they probably told her to take the film, then used it as an excuse to dump her and cast Ron howards daughter in the role so his studio would kick in extra funding and promotion. Summit could of worked around her schedule like they have for the other cast members. I am starting to think this was a favor to Ron Howard for his daughter. Daddy pulling strings. I love Rachelle and thought she was perfect for Victoria. I am so sad by this outcome. I too say BS. This was to be her big part. Eclipse is all about Victoria's revenge. Twilight set it up at the end and in NM she appears a few times in the water watching Bella. I can't imagine anyone else being Victoria. Rachelle had it down perfectly. Also out of all the cast, she was the most mature in interviews, a breath of fresh air and so grounded. I've seen her in other parts. This girl is going places so it's Summit's loss and ours that are fans. To the one that posted she saw the trailer and rolled her eyes. Try reading the books, try watching more than a trailer before you comment. Those of us that read the books and saw the movie are very dedicated fans that DO care about recasts. It sucks. I'm so bummed.

Definitely agree with Perez on this one!!! This girl Rachelle has risen very quickly in the industry because she's got "IT". She has star quality. She went from a small part on "What About Brian" to several other tv spots and then jumped to film. She would never risk her part in a blockbluster franchise like this, especially for a part that is going to make her world famous. Bryce Dallas Howard, for me, is a good actress but not compelling to watch. This is nepotism, or the missteps of a small studio trying to curry favor with the big dogs. The story will suffer as a result. Bryce should back out gracefully. And they should reinstate Rachelle.

I think they both effed this up. I think Rachelle made a mistake taking that movie knowing it would conflict with Twilight and just assumed that they would work around her…shoot even Rob quit Parts Per Billion because it conflicted with New Moon. So she was wrong for assuming that she was big enough that the crew would work around her schedule. Also I am sure something could of been worked out though but Summit saw a chance to hire someone more high profile so instead of solving the issue they dropped Rachelle.

I don't think it's so "shady". Their version sounds rather credible and I assume that they when they found out at such a late date that she couldn't play her part that they didn't have time to be interviewing a bunch of unknowns for the role and so they just went with an established actress.
As a fan of the series, I don't mind at all about the recasting since that character is somewhat minor anyway and I do like Bryce.
Correct me if I'm wrong, it's been a few months since I read Eclipse, but doesn't Victoria only appear towards the end of the book? After they've figured out that she's the one who made the newborns? A 3 month filming schedule vs. a 10 day commitment? Were they going to film her scenes first? And I'm sure if she was aware of the filming schedule she would have turned down the role in Barney's vision. Much like in all 3 books she's in, Victoria's part is small. Her lackey's get most of the action in Eclipse anyway! I'm sure Summitt could have handled her being gone for 10 days. They dropped the ball on this one.
