Annie, Are You Okay? Photographer Leibovitz Sued!

If you've seen a photograph in Vanity Fair that you liked, it's probably Annie Leibovitz who shot it.

She is a great photographer, but - unfortunately - she seems to be piss poor in money management. Reports of her fiscal troubles have been circulating for months, and now, the Art Capital Group Inc is suing the famed Leibovitz for the money she owes them.

Apparently, to get herself out of debt, she asked the corporation to lend her $24 million. She has yet to begin giving back these funds, which would mean selling off both real estate and artistic properties. The company filed suit Wednesday morning and pleaded with a judge to "compel Leibovitz to cooperate with the person assigned to sell her copyrights and organize the sale of her properties, so Leibovitz can pay back the loan."

Supposedly, Annie has refused to meet with any prospective buyers of either properties, making it rather difficult to sell them. Reps for Annie are claiming that the lawsuit is simply a publicity stunt to gain more recognition for the company and that their actions are "harassment and attention-getting efforts."

Hmmmm. We'd need to see her contract with these peeps.

There should be a timeframe for repayment of the loan built in to the deal. If not, then stall away!

PS: She had to have gotten a huge check from Disney for the Disney Dreams collection. Not $24 million of course, but a lot none the less. Where's all that dough?!

Unbelievable! With all the money she has made over the years, she should not be in financial trouble!

Sometimes individuals with "artistic bents" are NOT the world's greatest money managers. Why doesn't she have financial advisors working for her to take care of these matters? Her brains are inside/behind her camera; she should leave her business dealings to professionals…

She has the same legal management as Mike Jackson. Try a little poperal, Annie??

She was left the estate of her girlfriend Susan Sontag when she died, why wouldn't she sell off some of that property etc…?

I heard she spent it all on dildos. Those clear ones that light up are kind of expensive.

She sounds like a modern day troubled artist. Rock on Annie!

Glad she's in financial trouble, she's a tyrant who has treated her assistants like shit.

Try the 3 (THREE) connected townhomes she is renovating in NYC. Those 3 homes BEFORE renovation would run into double digit millions. You would reach 30 million quite easily.

She is the shit when it comes to photography! Wish she took better care of her monies.

She was left with millions of estate taxes that were due following her partners death. Since marriage was not an option for them, for her to be able to keep items/property/art that were accumulated during their time together, she was stuck with paying huge amounts of money to the government to keep what was hers.

      Fair?

      Not!

I can't imagine what it must be like to live a life where i was 24 million dollars in debt. WTF did she buy? How could anyone spend that much money? Even if I had millions of dollars, I would still wear clothes from The Gap and shop at Payless. Labels have no meaning, we all end up dead in the end and you can't take it with you. But maybe I feel this way because I am dirt poor with a graduate school education that apparently will do nothing buy earn me a middle class lifestyle. Well, at least my credit is good.
