Harvey Milk Receives Posthumous Presidential Medal Of Freedom

The late, great, gay rights activist, Harvey Milk, will be one of the sixteen recipients of this year's Presidential Medal of Freedom.
As stated by the White House, recipients "make an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors."
We can think of no one better than Harvey to receive the prestigious honor in the name of gay rights!
Other honorees this year include Billie Jean King, Stephen Hawking, Sandra Day O'Connor, Chita Rivera, and Sidney Poitier.

Of course, each is accomplished in his/her field, and some of these candidates were shoo-ins anyway. But it's good to see that change we can believe in is quite broad and international. Yay!

Why is the United States giving him an award?
It makes it appear that President Obama wanted a disabled person (gimp) to be on stage with all the other minority and special interests being represented regardless of the contribution to the United States of America.

Besides being a really good film, it will help you understand that Harvey Milk
deserves to be honored and remembered.

Milk's posthumous award is bittersweet and serves as a reminder of the dear price we have paid in our fight for equality.
