Harley Davidson Mogul Dies - in Motorcycle Accident!

Considered by many as the "world's largest Harley-Davidson dealer", 66-year-old Bruce Rossmeyer died on Thursday in a motorcycle accident.
While riding in a rally in Wyoming, Bruce was hit by a Ford pickup truck attempting to make a turn while he was trying to pass. The two collided, and Bruce, who was not wearing a helmet, struck the driver's side door.
Bruce was known for his love of his hogs and as a big supporter of children's charities.
Our condolences go out to his family and friends.
P.S. Wear helmets y'all!!!!!!!!!!

so sad
Isn't that ironic?
It would be nice if you could drop the !!!! when posting about someone who just passed away. It's not like it's EXCITING news, so show some respect.
Perez, We all know you were born in Miami. But no one from Miami say ya'll. Plus, a fat gay guy saying ya'll…..explains why you aren't with anyone.
thats so sad!!!
RIP Bruce Rossmeyer!
oh the irony. that sux though
most motorcyclists dont wear helmets so they wont snap their necks. they need to be updated so that wont happen. i can personally see why theyd rather be dead than paralysed.
Bummer
Rest in peace Bruce
I've never heard of him before, but my commiserations still go out to his friends and family.
VERY VERY SAD.
.
HOWEVER.
.
1-NO HELMET
.
2-MOTORCYCLISTS ARE ALWAYS PASSING IN THE MIDDLE (ALONG THE YELLOW LINE) OR IN THE BICYCLE LANE. NOW SOMEONE GOT HIT BECAUSE A TRUCK TURNED (PROBABLY WITH THE RIGHT OF WAY) AND THIS GUY WAS INAPPROPRIATELY PASSING HIM.
Re: kiky_1223 – No, it doesn't work like that. Worked over a decade as an EMT and never saw that happen in that way-EVER! It's just anti-helmet bullshit that's about as truthful as not wearing seatbelts so you can be safely thrown from your car when it crashes! Also been riding all my life and I get really sick of idiotic bullshit like that excuse! All it takes is for you to even tap your head on the ground to screw yourself! You don't want to wear a helmet?" Fine, just be sure to mark organ donor on your driver's license.
Don't know if a helmet would have help this man, but not having one on sure didn't help things out. That being said, it still sucks to hear about his loss.
He lived the way he wanted. God bless him for all of his work with children's charities.
Ride free in heaven Bruce.
This is so sad. My heart hurts. I used to work for Mr. Rossemeyer at Destination Daytona, the year that it opened. That place is a masterpiece. He had a major role in our local area… and will be greatly missed. :”'(((
sssuper sad, my dadddy was just talking about thattttt to bosss a second agooo
Ah!
RIP.
.
Aw this is sad. Even though I dont ride a motorcycle, I always notice how a lot of drivers in my state ignore motorcycles by cutting them off and tailgating which is way more hazardous to do than if you doing it to a regular car. Its really good that he was generous when he was alive. God bless him and his family
The guy that rallied to change the FL helmet law, died within 24 hours of the new no-halmet law being put into place while riding without his helmet. Sad, but wear helmets and shields.
i went to his dealership in Daytona Beach just a couple of month ago, my mom was friends with him.
in Florida you don't have to wear a helmet which i think wearing a helmet should be the law!
Perez, the guy got hit by a truck, a helmet wasn't going to save his life. I hate when people think a helmet is the end-all be-all for safety. If you are riding a motorcycle there is basically no safety involved. It's just like people are so adamant about stopping all cell phones in cars, even though the number one cause of accidents is passengers distracting the driver. Although, you never hear anything about creating legislation that everyone needs to drive alone to curb the amount of accidents. Where did logic in America go?
Oh wow..he was driving like an asshole and trying to pass someone who was slowing down to make a turn…genius! He gets a Darwin Award.
Only really stupid people ride motorbikes without wearing a helmet.
Last time i was in Texas i saw a bunch of idiots riding without helmet and leathers, some even had flip-flops on…
I know they don´t want to wear safety gear because of the heat, but hey, i´m rather sweaty then dead.
I just visited Destination Daytona (the world's largest Harley dealership) and they have the flag flying at half mast. So sad… he will definitely be missed around here. Bike week will never be the same, that's for sure.
Perez I know that's not you writing. Because you would have put RIP! But, thanks anyway for the heads up. May he rest in peace! Very sad.
Re: SWEETPIECE! – Hey Sweets! This is very sad.
It's the law you have to wear a seat belt in a car but you can ride without a helmet? Just another absurdity in America.
Re: Blohag! – just because youve never seen it happen doesn't mean it hasn't. tell that to my best friends who's older brother died from breaking his neck because of a helmet. shell set you straight about that really quick. just because you know EVERYTHING and you haven't seen it doesn't mean it hasn't happened. so stop spouting your know it all bullshit and look something up. you can't see air and you believe it's there right? hello you base that off facts not opinions based on personal experience. so shut up you blohag.
Re: urdumb – Most states have helmet laws.
Survival of the fittest guys, survival of the fittest.
Re: Paris France – I really don't like motorcycles for I've lost too many great people who were riding, minding their own business and were in the wrong place at the right time. Car versus motorcycle, bike always loses. And no helmet?
Sounds like he was a generous rebel.
.
Prayers for his family and friends.
.
Re: DazedNCnfused –
So if it doesn't eliminate risk completely, then it's not worth doing? Wow, talk about sound logic.
Re: kiky_1223 –
Darling, how about you shut yours? I understand there are exceptions to every rule, but compare this one freak accident to the thousands of people who die every year because they don't wear helmets. I'm sorry you're friend's brother died because of the helmet , but that's exactly like saying that seatbelts are bad because they actually cause the death of person every once in a while. WEAR HELMETS & SEATBELTS PEOPLE!
mk so first of all , this happened days ago.
secondly when a motorcycle is in a BAD accident like this sounds, a helmet 9 times out of 10 WONT help.
i had a friend die by my house actually and he had a helmet on, BUT he was going over 100mph. all the helmet did was keep him from going into shock bc he sure was talking while the helmet was still on, the second it came off he went into shock and died.
so a helmet isnt going to be the determining factor, the circumstance in the accident most likely are. some are lucky and some arent.
oww
RIP
I can't tell you what a thrill it was to read this!!! One fewer fat, polluting moron in the world!!!! and no helmet, just the "protection" of 60 pounds of lard on his midsection. too much! I feel bad for the truck driver, that couldn't have been a pretty sight, and the poor paramedics, responding to that bloated carnage. I hope maybe at least his eyes were donated to someone, and some tissue. surely not his heart or liver. He loved hogs? I just bet he did, but not the mammal kind, because he ate them. why would you send condolences to his family? it's a gift he's gone.
[re=4140067]Re: DazedNCnfuse
LOL! The number one cause of accidents is what????? can you cite 5-6 sources for that ridiculous statement??? LOLOLOLOL!!!!
and maybe the #1 cause of plane crashes is someone asked the pilot if he wanted peanuts….
LOL!!!!! "passengers distracting the driver"!!! ROFLMAO!!!!! driver can be drunk, unbelted, and doing 120, but as long as he has no passengers….
Re: kiky_1223 – Yeah dickwad, what do you think would have happened without a helmet? That same head would have been a pile of mush! How much has your ass ridden? I've been riding from the age of 6 on both dirt and street! I've worked dozen of accidents with bikes and all it takes is one small bump to the head and you're fucked! I did that professionally, while your ass just drove by and rubbernecked! You probably don't even ride a bike, but I imagine you don't wear a helmet either. Well goodie for you. Keep that up and maybe somebody will turn you towards the sun and water you twice a day.
Good. I hope it hurt when he hit the pavement.
well since he was on his way to the ralley in sturgis i guess theyll mark this as the 1st death of the ralley… i wonder if they will do ne thing at the ralley because of this… i guess when i go tonight ill find out…
re: no helmet laws… apparently if you fall wearing a helmet, you're a veggie and the state has to pay to keep you alive… no helmet=death=cheaper
This just gets me so mad!!!! You could be the best rider in the world but it doesn't matter because the person driving the car might not be the best driver!!!!! The same thing happened to my neighbor. He never wore a helmet. And one day he was riding, made a wrong turn, got into an accident and passed away. I miss him alot. But my heart goes out to his family and RIP Bruce Rossmeyer.
Nothing you say is ever genuine. You clearly used "Y'all" as a way to mock the type of people who own Harley's. You're a pathetic excuse for everything you try to represent in life, and when your day comes, I doubt any of us will be mourning.
Re: AudreyArellano – What the hell is wrong with you?
It should be mandatory that helmets should be worn in ALL states……
R.I.P BROTHER…..
he was on his way to sturgis, and had stopped in colorado for a meeting, then was to be stopping in thermopolis wy to meet another group to ride with the rest of the way to sturgis. he wasn't in wyoming for a rally - just to meet people and continue to the sturgis rally.
Correction–he was on his way to the Sturgis, South Dakota motorcycle rally when he was killed in Wyoming. He comes here every year.
Re: Caligulascousin – "Brain Buckets" are the nickname of the helmets that are basically just skullcaps. They can be worn and are ok for states with helmet laws, but they do little to prevent injury. The best way to prevent brain injury is to wear a REAL helmet, one that has a facemask AND put the chin strap on. I don't understand people who wear skull caps AKA brain buckets and then don't even strap it on. It doesn't matter how good of a motorcylist you are. There are too many stupid people on the roads. Like others have said, helmets save lives. Seatbelts saves lives. Occasionally there may be someone hurt more because of one of those things, but that is the exception, not the rule. If you wear a helmet and have a crash that breaks your neck because of the helmet, do you REALLY think NOT wearing a helmet would be better? MAYBE the neck wouldn't be broken, but it wouldn't matter because there'd be no brain left to even worry about a broken neck. A bad crash is a bad crash all around, and if you really think wearing helmets is more unsafe than not, take the advice of others and check that donor box on your driver's license.
Re: contrarianchick – You are gross and disgusting to be saying this about someone you do not know. Look on his business website at all the things he has done for people he hasn't known. As someone who knew him…I say look in the mirror to see who the pig is…
He was actually riding to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota when he was killed. This Bike Rally in SD is one of the largest in the world considering the town is only made up of 10,000 people, and during this 8 day period in August there are over 400,000 that come. His death won't be the first or last by the time the Rally ends next Sunday.
That sucks, RIP Bruce.
…it's like rain, on your wedding day.
Re: IRONMAN – U R hot as hell.
Actually Blohag, if you'd actually read the research that has been done, it is true that you're more likely to snap your neck in an accident with a helmet. And obviously you've been and EMT is small town USA for 10 years. I've been a paramedic in Large cities and have seen people paralyzed for wearing their helmet because they snapped their neck. I personally wear a helmet, but I completely understand why people do.
Also, more people die from internal injuries than from head injuries in high speed motorcycle accidents. Helmets are rated for 35mph or under, if somebody is going 65+mph, a helmet will not help one bit.
Sucks. Prayers to family and friends. My dad was wearing his helmet and protective gear. Lost his life because of some old fart who wasn't paying attention as he merged into freeway traffic. 3 other vehicles hit him after that, and only one stopped….long enough to remove my dad's helmet from under his car. Then he drove off. Nice, huh? WAKE UP, PEOPLE!!!! MOTORCYCLES HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS AS YOU DO IN YOUR CAR!
i bet that's the way he wanted to go out
Re: wisco1981 – No, try one of the biggest cities. Good for you that you wear a helmet too! Despite what you psychically think you know about me, I worked as a full time firefighter/EMT and saw more than enough to know what I'm talking about. I've also thrown away a few helmets from damage through the years and they did exactly what they were designed to do and did not allow my brain contents to get spread around the area! And 35 mph only? Give me a break! I walked away from a dirt crash at over a 100 with a concussion and I am certain from how I crashed that it would have been something much worse from the divots taken out of that same helmet. As for breaking your neck, well if you crash hard enough to break your neck, your head would probably be that pile of mush I was talking about anyway! As a medic, you should know that all it takes is a slight tap to the head to ruin your day! I can personally guarantee you that helmets are more likely to save your life than to take it or wreck it! Being a fellow rider, ride safe and ride like you are invisible and everyone is out to get you! Perhaps if more people rode like that, there wouldn't be the statistics that there are.
Re: contrarianchick – Wow what as asshole you are.
Re: mgattitude – I bet they will… he was a major contributor.. he donated millions in his lifetime, thats what they said on the news tonight.
that's beautiful. it's probably the way he would've have wanted to go, riding his bike.
coulda, shoulda, woulda…the helmet is what killed my dad in the motorcycle accident he was in. That's such a shame what happened…he died doing what he loved…probably wouldn't go any other way.
A man his size and age should be on four wheels instead of two. SWEETPIECE! – do you just live here and mutter monosyllables on every thread all day all week all month all year…?????
A drunk driver knocked this super hot and super creative gay guy I once loved off his motorcycle into a fire hydrant that punctured his heart… No helmet woulda saved him. Think about the risks motorcyclists take: The roads are filled with drunks; rageaholics; idiots who think they're race car" drivers; suicides who don't mind taking you with them; and all other manners of bad drivers. Any emergency room doctor or nurse can fill you in on the danger of riding a motorcycle on American roads.
Re: wisco1981 – Re: Blohag! – I completely agree with Blohag on this. If the impact is strong enough to break your neck with a helmet on, it's probably an impact that would have killed you anyways without a helmet. Did you not just take note what just happened to Natasha Richardson? I know it's not motorcycling, but it goes to show you how fragile the human head & brain actually are. So obviously helmets aren't going to do any good when it comes to a high impact crash, but it's absolutely skewed logic to say it's better to go without. AND I just researched the whole neck breaking thing. Here's what one site says about the helmet neck breaking myth - "DOT approved helmets are designed to absorb energy from a crash, the same energy that would break necks upon impact. It’s actually been shown that helmets help to prevent neck injuries in crashes." So, statistically it's a lot better to wear your helmet because it can prevent a lot more neck breaks than causing them.
I'm from Central Florida, and Bruce Rossmeyer was one of those wealthy business owners you were proud to have around. Good guy, good family. I think he was a good example of you dont have to be courrupt when you have money. He was a huge contributor of Camp Boggy Creek, which is a camp for terminally ill children and their families to get away and have fun amongst other charities. He also used to furnish the police dept in Daytona with new Harleys for something like $150 a year. He was a good guy.
At least he was doing something he loved.
I am sure this is the way he wanted to go on his beloved bike. I hope they bury the fucker with his bike. Kids morons if you are old fat and no wearing a helmit this too could happen to you. The fucker should heve been riding a trike with a helmit
ha who cares? bah!!
What's up with people saying "it's the way he would want to go"? Are you guys kidding me??? Nobody wants to die a painful death that could have been prevented. He probably would have wanted to go in his sleep in his eighties, not because of a stupid split-second driving decision.
So sad that people feel they shouldn't have to wear helmets! Condolences to his family. Lets hope people wake the h*ll up and do wear them.
I HATE BIKERS SO THIS STORY MAKES ME HAPPY. I ALWAYS THINK THAT IF I HAD TO EXECUTE SOMEONEBY PULLING THE SWITCH I WOULD WANT IT TO BE A HELLS ANGEL BECAUSE THEN I WOULDNT FEEL BAD. THEY ARE WORTHLESS, I HATE BIKERS
First off, I am very sad for the family of Mr. Rossmeyer. I was in a motorcycle accident last year at a rally and I didnt have a helmet. The state didnt have a helmet law. I wasnt breaking the rules. We went around a curve and thats all I remember. I woke up bloody, with a broken nose, jaw, hand, foot, teeth gone. But You know what IM STILL ALIVE! There are so many people that live their lives with fear of riding or adventure, and I am not one of those! Within the same month I was riding again, this time with a full face helmet, but with alot more respect for my own life! People that hate bikers, obviously have never been on a HOG! RIP
i live in the town where this pic is taken and he lived (daytona)
it is sad
WEAR
YOUR
HELMET
oh god the fucking irony!
wow, life is ironic sometimes, non?
i'm sorry for his family.
rip.
To have the career he had and not wear helmet is beyond idiotic.
Re: Julz10 – I'm sure you're with a hotty with that attitude…Christ, get a life!
Sad, but it was HIS choice not to wear a helmut…so he suffered the consequences. People should be allowed their own choices–and suffer the folly if it's a bad choice.
Re: Nubian Goddess With Dinner Plate – Yep!
Survival of the fittest.
R.I.P
RIP M8. I searched this guy and he did some good work.
I do recommend helmets to my friends. Some ride with, some without. I might be caught dead with one, or I might survive. I don't think this thread is ultimately about a helmet.
Ironic.
Arrgh. That sucks
He was younger than my Dad.
And yes - wear your helmets!! Motorcycles are so fun and i totez get the whole "wind in my hair" thing. But if you want to keep the wind outta yer brain pan, wear your helmet.
Re: Tallulajayne – It's not ironic at all. He loved Harleys. He died on a Harley. He probably spent a lot of time on his Harley, upping the percentage that he would indeed pass away while on one. Especially because he made the bad choice to not wear his helmet
Re: Blohag! – Awesome post - thanks for setting the story straight! Maybe you'll save a life.
