Katherine Heigl Apologizes…Sort Of

We mentioned previously how pissed both Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen are with Katherine Heigl. Basically, like a snooty bitch, she slammed the movie that pretty much started her film career - Knocked Up - by calling it "sexist", amongst other things.
Judd had mentioned that he would have given her the benefit of the doubt, had she apologized for what she said. Well, she's finally done it Judd. She has an apology all set up in her interview with this coming month's edition of UK Marie Claire. We should warn you, though, it's rather half-ass.
When asked if she would take anything back in her career, Katherine replied:
"If I was to say I wish I'd never made that comment about Knocked Up [being sexist], it's not that I don't feel the way I do about it, it's just that it maybe didn't need to be communicated via a magazine interview."
Told ya.
Do with that what you will.
We should also mention that Katherine concedes that she has a "terrible mouth" and that while her opinionated nature isn't going to change anytime soon, she would like to know that despite it, everyone will still "love" her.
No such luck their Heigl. It's not so much what you say, but who you say it about, and this notorious need to bite at the hand that feeds you (Judd, Shonda Rhimes, etc.) is just going to land you in obscurity.

I LOVE Heigl, and I love that she speaks her mind. She doesn't try to come across as an ignorant slut the way Megan Fox does. She is just herself, and speaks her mind. I personally think the media makes a much bigger deal out of her statements than should be made. I always see headlines about "OH my god, she says this and that." Yet when I read the comments she makes I think "this is it??? This is what people are upset about??"
Of course she is going to apologize. She still want's to have a career.

Hardly surprising she regrets it when its rammed down her throat years after she said it. Also the fact that is only part of her response that is ever quoted - not the bit where she explains how much she loved the movie and that it was one of her best filming experiences as well as the fact she hoped women realised that the characters were exaggerated for the humor. Not sure how she bit that had that fed her - that is a ridiculous thing to say. Just stop demonizing this woman and making her appear like something she is not. Everything she says is micro analysed - enough hate already. Snark is one thing, the repeated attacks on Heigl fall nothing short of malice.

Heigl seems to be a little on the dim side as far as understanding how her words come across. If she was so smart she would know if she puts it out there for the media anything could happen. If she thinks everyone "will still love her" despite her "terrible mouth" she is even denser than I thought.
Tall, pretty blondes are a dime a dozen in Hollywood. There are legions lined up behind her for directors and producers to pick from. Nobody is going to want to work with someone who is two faced when there is really nothing special about her in the first place.

You don't badmouth the film YOU'RE CURRENTLY PROMOTING. That's disrespectful to those who pay you, who hired you, hell that's disrespectful to the hundreds of people who make that film what it is. She could've said it in a different way (or not said anything at all), but she chose not to due to her "opinionated nature". It's just really disappointing to see such a talented actress act so childish.
Oh and also, Apatow is a good guy, I can tell. He's been working in the industry for nearly 2 decades, and he has finally hit the absolute big time. For him to take a chance on (at the time) an unproven actress like Heigl (she's a much bigger star now) shows a lot about his character.
While I feel she could've phrased her opinion better, I appreciate the fact that she isn't afraid to share that opinion. Love her in 27 Dresses, btw.

There is nothing wrong with her or anyone else for having an opinion. But in this case she pretty much reinforced the "dumb blonde" stereotype by publicly dumping on a movie that SHE decided was worth her time to do. I think there is a difference between an actor acknowledging they did a bad movie, which I actually admire, versus acting holier than thou and blaming it personal standards. Was she too stupid to realize the movie was "sexist" when she did it?
Or was it just plain and simple, "I need the work. I need to advance my career by getting into movies and I will do whatever comes along to get onto the big screen. I have to start somewhere."
Of the two scenarios I think she knew exactly what the overtones of the movie was but she didn't care then. Her ambition was stronger than her standards. That is OK too as far as I am concerned. Show business is really tough and sometimes you have to take what you can get if you want to keep working.
