Horrendous Storm At Canadian Country Music Festival Kills One And Injures Many!!

ap060811037880costner.jpg

One person has died and 40 others have been injured due to the collapse of a stage at a country music festival in Alberta, Canada, on Saturday!!

Awful!

By the time actor Kevin Costner's group Modern West hit the stage, the storm was in full force.

The main stage at the Big Valley Jamboree in Camrose fell victim of heavy winds and rain and collapsed while Nashville's Billy Currington was in the middle of performing.

"I can't describe the sky — it was brown and purple and green," said one witness. "The massive wind blew me backwards."

The peaceful country music festival soon erupted into chaos!

Another witness described the terrifying scene: "It felt like bombs were going off around us in this concrete and steel building. Huge hits of power hitting the building, and then the lights were off."

So scary!!!

No word on whether or not the Big Valley Jamboree will continue as scheduled through Sunday night.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victims of the storm.

Stay strong!

Update: The festival has been cancelled on Sunday.

      Sad.

    2. 2

Good riddance to Country music and all those fuckin hillbillies.

    3. 3

AGAIN, you sound like those fake bitches who say caring words but the tone is just awfully happy.

    4. 4

Um, is it me or did it not occur to anyone to call it off and issue a raincheck? "huge hits of power" mean it's time to get inside!

    5. 5

      wow.., how awful

    6. 6

The same storm system killed a three-year-old little girl from flying debris in Calgary. :-(

    7. 7

      Re: GG1000

It's in the country and most people camp… where exactly do you suggest they "go inside" to? And with 20,000 people it's kind of hard to just get in a car and drive.

    8. 8

Re: GG1000 – The weather went from sunny and peaceful to 80 MPH winds in just over 90 seconds. Not enough time to call it off.

    9. 9

At least they didn't have to see or hear Kevin Costner.

    10. 10

It has been canceled, Kevin Costner is OK, a band member of his though underwent surgery on his arm..a few seriously injured are still in hospital.

      Um, Camrose is in BC.

    12. 12

Re: BOOMBOOMPOWrez – Yeah Canadians are all fucking hillbillies right GOOF? If I'm correct which I wouldn't know because I can't stand country music most of the artists were from the states so whose the fucking hillbilly? Why don't you cross over the border of your self absorbed country and come on over to Canada and we'll give you a good fucking beating just like Perez got and send your ass back to yee-haw good ol' US of A with your eyes punched shut and your fucking rude ass mouth too, Bitch

    13. 13

what an awesome scene. Oh Canada!

      HEY PEREZ ! where's 'your dialy R-Patz'?? :P

    16. 16

Re: yummy mummy 3 – How about you bring your punk ass to Texas and let's see whose eye's will be shut, Hell, maybe a hangin you fucking kike.

      17

AriR you don't know anything. Camrose and the BVJ is in Alberta.

    18. 18

Oh, you're from Texas? That's even funnier!

    19. 19

Re: BOOMBOOMPOWrez – Sorry, I meant even more funny. Wouldn't want to upset you since you're so such an intellectual Texan. Y'all don't go anywhere I have to grab my banjo so I can smash your hillbilly ass over the head with it like BOM BOM POW. How you like me now YEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-HAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.

    20. 20

Re: GG1000 – Your trying to sound witty but you just sound dumb! Canadians aren't going to call anything off for a bit of rain! It's called the weather can change in a matter of seconds! Nobody could have predicted it would happen. Also when you're in the middle of the country in a field there isn't much place for you to go inside..um, duh.

    21. 21

Yeah, it was insane. D: It's not that far from us and my town got hit too, in a matter of seconds it went from completely calm to things being whipped out of people's lawns and against my windows. I was grabbing towels out of the closet to go take a shower and suddenly I heard things smashing and breaking against the side of the house, and I thought it was still sunny outside. Scary!

    22. 22

I live a town about 20 miles from Camrose and it was scary! We can also get tornadoes here and the sky was green!! In Calgary a 3 yr old boy was killed by a piece of metal that flew off a downtown skyscraper.
The storm was "BAD" (who's bad…lol) but didn't last long.
      Today it's sunny and nice.

    23. 23

Re: yummy mummy 3 – they dont all have banjos. some children are too small to carry them.

    24. 24

      I was there!

    25. 25

the same storm system killed a three year old and injured two other people in calgary… metal flew and hit them i guess. it's so sad :( it was an intense storm for sure… half the night without power

    26. 26

It happened so fast that there was no way they could have called off the show. The sky clouded over so quickly and the wind started up. Why do ignorant people have to come on the boards and start a Canadian vs. US debate? What does that have to do with anything? My heart goes out to the people that were killed in the storm (this person at the BVJ) and a toddler that was killed in downtown Calgary by a piece of flying metal debris from a building under construction.

    27. Trud says – reply to this

      27

I live here in Camrose, Alberta where the Big Valley Jamboree is held for the past 17 years and nothing like this has ever happened…the storm came up sooo fast, there was a "wind gust" about 20 miles ahead of the storm that just hit us first without any warning, I mean there were some dark clouds but the wind hit first, and it hit hard..there was no tornado but the gusts got over 100 km and hour…it did not start raining or lighting and thundering until around 10 minutes or so after the wind hit…it was a very fast moving storm….crazy!!! With 20,000 people or so there, only 1 death and around 75 injured…thats pretty good…could have been ALOT worse!!!

    28. 28

too bad perez wasn't there instead of in tokyo

    29. 29

Re: AriR – um, no… it is in Alberta! Grab a map.

    30. 30

      My family was there, actually.

Another witness described the terrifying scene: "It felt like bombs were going off around us in this concrete and steel building. Huge hits of power hitting the building, and then the lights were off."

That was Jessie Farrell, Vancouver singer.

The weather changes in Alberta are horrifying. It was plus 25, and in five minutes, the weather changed. My family got out of there fast enough and back to the trailer as quick as they could. You couldn't walk into the wind without blowing backwards.

    31. 31

Sad News, the weather here has been scary. It was an freaky storm, it was lucky more people didn't get hurt.

    32. 32

Re: BOOMBOOMPOWrez – You're a dick, a woman was killed and I happened to be on that stage and had to crawl out with my friends. It was horrifying and how in the world do you think you have the right to call us hillbillies when you're from Texas!!!??? SHUT YOUR FACE YOU RACIST ASSHOLE!
Just like Yummy Mummy I'd like to see you get your ass kicked by us hillbilly Canadians.
And no there was no time to get inside, that wind came out of nowhere and we were still on the stage and then all of a sudden it was crashing down on us.
Also people come from all over for Big Valley Jamboree, it's the biggest music festival in Canada and guess what even Americans come for it so why in the world this has turned into a Canada Vs. USA competition is beyond me!

    33. 33

Is it wrong to wish the storm had killed Costner, thus saving the world from 20+ more years of bad movies?

    34. @v@ says – reply to this

      34

Re: GG1000 – This storm hit suddenly - the U.V. index was off the charts and it was sunny and hot as hades, and in about two minutes it was blowing like a tornado was hitting with clouds colored in scary hues. It was gone just about as quickly.

    35. 35

i'm sorry that someone died but today's country music SUCKS but willie nelson woodie guthrie, hank williams, johnny cash were some of the true country artist not these stupid country pop artist. my thoughts still go out to the people durning the accident.
even though they listen to country. :(

      Re: canadian1988Re: yummy mummy 3
Sadly, life is filled with tragedy. Often there is no way to predict such horrific events. My heart goes out to all who were there and suffered such a great loss.
Heartbreak comes in so many ways, shape and form. BOOMBOOMPOWrez also fits a tragic bill. Here is a truly ignorant, hate-filled individual who has instantly managed to offend and alienate Canadians , Jews and the human race in general.
      Pathetic and unfortunate at best.

    37. @v@ says – reply to this

      37

Re: BOOMBOOMPOWrez – This is an amazing country music festival. Your loss. The atmosphere is the best. It's a 400 acre mini village with all of the amenities, and people bring their R.V.'s and camp all weekend. It's a low key, down home non-stop party. Look up Big Valley Jamboree. This has been going on for years, and gets better every year. Until this freak storm. It will go on. It's not in B.C. It's in Camrose, Alberta, above Montana, about 6 hours north of the border past the City of Calgary and just south east of Edmonton. I find it's worth driving north for if you like a country festival with lots of Big Name line ups.

    38. 38

That's kind of sad. But fuck country, worst genre of music ever.

Re: yummy mummy 3 Re: BOOMBOOMPOWrez – you two should get married at a Merle Haggard concert and get it over with. Also, yummy is apparently Jewish? How did you get that out of "HURR DURR I'm Canadian and I'mma punch you," anyway? lulz

    39. 39

      Re: nutcracker
WELL SAID - AND THANK YOU - CHEERS - and a tall, cold one to you!

    40. 40

It was God telling Costner to quit singing (and acting)

    41. 41

I live a couple hours from where BVJ is held and the storm came up so, so suddenly and was absolutely insane. If I remember the forecast only called for a "chance of showers". No one could have known that in less than 2 minutes it would go from a hot, sunny day to high winds, lightening, thunder, and hail. I've gotten word from almost all of my friends who were there that they are okay, but there is still one friend I haven't been able to get any word on. I can't get a hold of any of her friends or family, and so at this point all I can do is wait. It's a pretty terrifying thing that has happened, and my thoughts are with the families of the deceased and the injured people and their families.

    42. 42

Filthy eskimo fuckers! "It felt like bombs were going off around us in this concrete and steel building", If only it was one of our nukes.

    59. 59

that was the second major windstorm in 2 weeks. Both of them came up quickly and didn't last long but caused major damage. Alberta weather can change very quickly for some reason.

    60. 60

Kevin Costner graduated from the High School in my hometown.
That sucks that the festival was canceled! :(

    61. 61

that was the second major windstorm in 2 weeks. Both of them came up quickly and didn't last long but caused major damage. Alberta weather can change very quickly and it's the only place I've ever seen it thunder, lightning and snow at the same time.

    62. 62

Re: BOOMBOOMPOWrez – you are so racist.

    63. 63

I cant believe how heartless and ignorant some of these comments are. I want you all to know, that I was there. I was right in front of the stage when it fell back and down..do u all know it killed a mother of 2! The event organizers were on stage trying to clear off the entertainers and the concert bowl. The storm came out of nowhere. Camrose is 45 mins away from my house..and it took us 7 hours to get home. the devastion and horror that this storm caused is gonna be with me forever. I have gone to this music festival for the last 5 years and never in my life have I seen anything like this. My best friend, who was standing beside me in front of the stage…we got seperated and she was found 4 hours after the storm had passed. She is still in the hospital and has a broken arm..and bruised face. Im a mother as well, and we had no cell phone reception to call our loved ones and let them know we were ok. I couldnt reach my husband..nor my parents..do u know how scared my loved ones were.

So before u alll say anything…think twice. A lot of ppl are affected by this storm…

Stop bein so ignorant! This is a tragedy and we are lucky a lot more were not hurt.

    64. 64

I was at BVJ over the weekend and trust me the storm hit so fast noone saw it coming, there were people running and screaming everywhere. Of course I did the same… it was very scary.

Just wanted to say that BVJ is for people of all ages to just get out of the city for a few days to enjoy various types of music and have a good time with friends/family and not many 'hicks' show up haha a lot of drunk teenagers tho *rolls eyes*. I'm not too sure why there is always Americans vs Canadians all over the comments on this site but I can't judge any of you for your own opinion it's your right 'freedom of speech', just remember you have your idiots/morons whereever you go no matter if it's the local corner store/ another province/state or country. =))
Have a great day!! Please don't reply with rude comments haha I'm sensitive =P jokes

    65. 65

I hope the storm swept up celin dion and washed her into the sea!

    66. 66

Re: nutcracker – Thanks you're Awesome…now if only people like BOOMBOOMPOWrez could somehow be converted to decent human beings

    67. 67

Re: BOOMBOOMPOWrez – I cannot get over what a fucking moron you are. First of all don't use words that you don't even know the meaning of. Somehow you have managed to offend a shitload of people because of your ignorance, you don't even know what you're saying so my advice to you would be to shut the he'll up. I'm catholic by the way not that it matters but go ahead and try and say something about my religion since you've already took it upon yourself to talk shit about people who enjoy country music, an entire country, Jewish people, and now blacks too. You are a racist, uneducated, lowlife LOSER now get the fuck off this site.

    68. 68

Oh, did someone say a second person died? I am so sorry! Prayers to all that was affected. This is such a shame. When something like this happens you really don't know what to do. I hope the community is able to pull through this.
Prayers to our neighbors! I've been to Canada and I love it. Stay strong.

    69. 69

Re: Dirty old man – And you're another ignorant racist fuck. Get a life nobody cares what you have to say. Are you trying to get a reaction? Well here you go……. Fuck off already.

And no this isn't about Canada vs. USA. It's about being a compassionate human being vs. insensitive, racist and just plain rude and uncalled for comments because some people have nothing better to do with their time. My heart goes out to that poor woman and her family, especially her children who have to grow up without a mother meanwhile some people seem to think it's not a big deal because Canadians are Hillbilly Eskimos if that even makes any sense.

Now - just a short message to the dickwads like BOOMBOOMPOWrez, Dirty Old Man or any of the other useless pieces of living cargo here on this site - before you retaliate and try to lash out to any us sensitive, decent human beings……

Re: Dirty old man – Aren't you a sympathepic person.. Dude, its about an average of 30 degrees celcius all around the country. You're just as much an eskimo as we are. PS. hope everyone that was injured is ok

    72. 72

Important question of the day: PEREZ, would you do KEVIN COSTNER ?

      2) Are you a top or a bottom, and 3) Is Kevin Costner a top or a bottom ?

I mean, he is short — so that usually means "BIG BOTTOM", but not always.

I saw a cute short guy at the Steamworks in Berkeley with a HUGE COCK — DELICIOUS ! He was just walking down the hallway, showing it off, know that everyone was just ADMIRING HIS LOVE TOOL ! I felt it, and it was THICK AND NICE ! And I gave him a little LUSTFUL KISS on the check. Oh, yeah !

That was years ago, of course. LUST !

Re: yummy mummy 3 – First of all I don't call 20 peep's a "shitload" of people. And second of all you could have kept your fucking "bitch" rant to yourself. And by the way YOU don't fuckin tell me to go the fuck anywhere. Lol, I can't believe you ACTUALLY think just b/c you tell me to get the fuck off this site, Im going to. What a stupid bitch you are.

    74. 74

Re: cookies. – Thank you. I am NOT racist. And I shouldn't have said what I said. And just b/c SOME people are hateful doesn't mean that EVERYONE is. Thank you for your forgiveness. I have truelly learned alot today. God bless you.

    75. 75

@yummy mummy 3, You should be more concerned about your coked up son and and future prostitute daughter hate you, and are planning to kill you in your sleep, that is if they can unthaw the door to your cheap ass igloo, canadian sympathiser!

    76. 76

I'm not sure Americans aren't just plain embarrassed that Dirty Old Man can't even spell the word imbred and still can't figure out where to use 'they're' and 'their' correctly, as he tries to vent his agenda's resentment towards Canadians in general. Hey, Dirty Old Man - Canada has 34 million or so people, with the Innuit population of 24 thousand total in Nunavit. Innuit, Metis and First Nations people account for 3.8 percent of Canada's total population. I looked it up on StatsCan. By the way, I've travelled up there, and the Innuit are the loveliest, kindest most sharing people, dipstick. How to embarrass the U.S. with your comments.

Just as sad.. a little three year old girl died downtown due to a sheet of metal that flew off a construction site from the wind! Sad.

I live in Edmonton which is about 30 minutes away. Once the radio stations heard the news, chaos broke out in Edmonton as well. It was insane. People were calling into the radio stations and naming off missing people. I am proud to say that the first aid crews on scene did a fantastic job!
