Rumors are swirling that the lovely Emma Watson is designing a clothing line for People Tree, which is a fair-trade company.
The 19-year-old actress and new face of Burberry has grown up before our eyes and has become quite the fashion force on and off the red carpet.
That being said, the actress recently said that she's not "really interested in it for my own ego. I'm not a designer. If someone asked me to do something that was beneficial to a cause, then maybe I'd consider it, but i'm not just [going to say] 'Look at me! I've got my own line!' [It's] gotten so ridiculous."
While we're sure whatever the normally down to earth star would come up with would be cool, we'd kind of feel disappointed if this is true. And while we guess it could be "beneficial to a cause," since People Tree is a fair-trade company, it still seems like selling out.
What makes her cool and interesting is the fact that she doesn't want to produce a fashion line and wants to focus on her craft. This would make her so generic.
Still, let's hope this isn't true, just because nobody likes a hypocrite!

I would be disappointed if it was just a random clothing line. But it's for a cause. People don't realize how important fair trade stuff really is. I would support a fair trade clothing line.

People tree is a pretty small company. Maybe she feels like she wants to help start a trend in fair trade clothing. Better than designing for hot topic anyway.

I don't see this as hypocritical at all. As other posters have said, it is a fair trade company which means the profits benefit not just individuals but entire communities. Why would this be hypocritical. If she wanted ego she would go with one of the big fashion houses, but she's not. She is supporting a very worthwhile cause. Really don't see where you are coming from on this, Perez.

first off theres nothing hypocritical about her if the company is fair trade. Do you even know anything about fair trade? The company i work for deals exclusively with fair trade, and because of this we've allowed communities in south america, africa, and small islands, etc the ability to support themselves. Because believe it or not there are actually people who want to work to better themselves as oppose to just getting hand outs. Because we pay them a fair price for there products, they are able to build schools, get clean water, and have hospitals. So shes not selling out because she will be giving a community of people the ability to support themselves and preserve their way of life.

Good on her! Supporting Fair Trade and organic cotton is very important and if she can get young people interested this way, then why not?
