Another Win For Edward Cullen Over Harry Potter
The victory actually belongs to Stephenie Meyer, the mastermind behind the Twilight series and the person who can take pride of beating out Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling.
While Rowling can boast she sold more books (143 million vs 40 million), Stephenie's epic vampire love tale has held its own on the USA TODAY's Best-Selling Books list longer than any other author, including Rowling.
As of this week, the four books making up the Twilight Saga are numbers 4, 5, 6 and 7 on the list. They've held the first four spots a total of 13 weeks in the past year and have remained in the Top Ten for 52 consecutive weeks. That beats Rowling by a long shot, as her first four novels were top 10 for only 13 consecutive weeks!
Furthermore, with the second novel, New Moon, premiering in November and the holiday season rapidly approaching, there doesn't seem to be an end in sight for the Twilight Saga's popularity.
Course, Stephenie could help her numbers along if she wrote another book in the series. Rowling wrote seven.

I've never read the Twilight books but I've heard that the writing is not very good. Also the movie was a disappointment according to most critics. I'm tired of hearing about Twilight and think that it might get overexposed although I realize that people who liked the first movie and love the books will see New Moon. I hope she stops writing this series, and either chooses a new subject or retires since she's got a lot of money now.
OK. read some comments, and it seems that most agree that Harry Potter books are much better. i'm just relieved that there are a lot of smart people who don't just like a book because the film version features a lot of hot guys. Also you have so much Twilight related posts that I feel everyone is obsessed, but now it's just you.
Twilight books are for 12-15 year old girls. That's the demographic. harry Potter transcended that by appealing to everyone. I would see business men, suited and booted reading Harry Potter on the train. I don't think I've ever seen one reading Twilight for gods sake!!! unless they're gay

If it weren't for the "Harry Potter Phenomenon," Twilight would never have happened. It opened up the door for adolescent fantasy fiction (although the HP series is not a children's series). Before Harry Potter, books didn't have release date parties. Harry Potter opened up reading for an entire generation, and convinced advertisers that they could make money off of books. That's why Twilight is successful.
At least Rowling can write good books.

did you ever consider the fact that the 3 first HP books were released at the same time in the US? and that the 4th book followed a while after? so mayb this is because people were buying the books at a slower rate in the beginning, because the frenzy over HP didn't begin until after the release of the 4th book. Also, its USA Today, which i dont really take as the greatest source for judging literary achievement, especially if twilight made the list for so long. This book is crap, completely predictable, and printing such filth is just a waste of perfectly good trees.

Yeah, well that don't mean SHIT. Everyone with a brain knows which books are better and will stand THE TEST OF TIME!!! Harry Potter was a PHENOMENON that inspired me and loads of other kids at that time to read, Twilight is a stupid little girls' fantasy world with sexy vampires and absolutely no substance.
I love Twilight, love it. J.K is a much more thought out writer, and her characters are more real. Rowling is def the better writer, and Meyer has good books but I don't think she deserves any praise over Harry Potter.

okay, twilight it so much more balanced that HP. seriously, i know vampires ect dont exist, but it more grown-up that wizards and magic, and honestly its more belivable!! twilight has romance, action and humour. overall its a much better series than harry potter. with twilight i liked the books and the movie. i dont find the harry potter books as interesting, (although i like the movies.) they are quite complicated, whereas, twilight sucks you in and makes you feel like you are Bella, and its your story. not to mention that edward cullen is a much more in depth fictional charector, he has more to offer that harry potter

Well, maybe Stephenie Meyer can boast that, but she can't boast that she's an excellent writer. I found those books so hard to read and so annoying and so full of shit. She is, in no way, a good writer. Quite the contrary, actually. She's a horrible writer.
oh and when i read the first 2 twilight books, i kept skipping all the boring parts. i probably read about half the book. for the last 2, i forced myself to read every bit of it, and was bored to tears. in harry potter, i NEVER find myself bored. harry potter ftw.
