While discussing her personal life in this months issue of Elle, Jen was asked about her sense of humor and how it has gotten her through the rough relationship years she's experienced. She recalled a moment in her life when she was very young, that we think started it all.
She said, "I remember being 7 and asking my mom if I was as pretty as [my best friend] Monique. And with all the love in the world, my mom looked at me and said, 'Oh, honey, you're so funny.'"
WHAT?!? What mom says that?!
We think you're pretty sometimes Jen, when you stay away from John Mayer. He makes you look grotesque. Remember that!

Maybe her Mom was discouraging looksist comparisons, but throwing out a positive statement at the same time. She would have been 7 in 1976, and women's lib and thumbs down on beauty pageants was very big then. Anyway, the minute she started heads turning she should have buried that wrong tape.

Your mom is suppose to tell you are pretty no matter what. It has such a huge effect on self esteem when you are little. However, at 40 or so, and with all the other peopel around her to tell her she is pretty (including Brad Pitt at one point) you should be mature enough to know the truth and drop the childhood baggage. Think of it as one way of telling her mother she didn't know what she was talking about and I am pretty!

The main thing that separates her from Jolie is confidence.
They're both very physically attractive, but while Agelina oozes sexual appeal and confidence,
while Jennifer comes off as insecure and in constant need of reassuring.

Re: Nostradamus – @33 - I disagree, because that's a lopsided view. Ange herself has discussed major issues she had because of Voight leaving her mother young. She's likely to still have them, but is finally trying to rise above. She went through quite a phase, all public and self admitted if I remember correctly. She also uses her looks and sexuality like a femme fatale. Jen presents more as a pretty, fairly normal golden girl next door, and any woman who has amassed the fortune Aniston has is NOT lacking in self confidence, believe me. That assumption has been erroneously fostered by the press trying to keep the breakup 'tragedy' alive, and does not at all represent who she is, which is a nice, decent person. If not appearing arrogant or full of herself looks like a lack of confidence to you, then shallowness is the order of the day.

She said in this interview she doesn't mind being the "lonely GIRL". "Lonely GIRL"? Obviously this woman never ever even tries to pretend to be a grown up at ripe old age of 40. She has mentioned in interviews before how critical her mother was of her appearance when she was growing up. It was one of the reasons for their bad/non-existant relationship.

Re: the real carmen – Completely agree with you. Gorgeous looks are completely over-rated. As long as people look HEALTHY and polished and well put-together that's all you need. There's even been research shown that people who are TOO attractive suffer…you just need a certain level of good looks is all and Jen has that.
More important is LUCK, determination (as you said), and life smarts (EQ). That's what will get you what you want.
