Katy Perry Pisses Off Someone Else
Someone else has come out against Katy Perry and her song I Kissed A Girl. Maybe she should have called it I Pissed Off A lot Of Girls.
The newest angry bitch to make her voice heard is Jill Sobule, a singer/songwriter we've never heard of nor do we really care who she is. She wrote a song with the same title, I Kissed A Girl, back in 1995, but with different music and lyrics.
However, regardless of the major differences, Jill is still super pissed at Katy for being a "thieving slut!"
Whoa! Bitter much? Actually, bitter A LOT! When asked about the song, Jill had this to say:
"As a musician I have always refrained from criticizing another artist. I was, 'Well, good for her.' It did bug me a little bit, however, when she said she came up with the idea for the title in a dream. In truth, she wrote it with a team of professional writers and was signed by the very same guy that signed me in 1995. I have not mentioned that in interviews as I don't want to sound bitter or petty, because that's not me…Okay, maybe, if I really think about it, there were a few jealous and pissed off moments."
Perhaps there were a few, but here comes the mother-load of envious dribble.
At the end of the interview, Jill rants:
"So here goes, for the first time in an interview… Fuck you Katy Perry, you fucking stupid, maybe 'not good for the gays', title thieving, haven't heard much else, so not quite sure if you're talented, fucking little slut."
That was the worst insult we've ever read! She needs some help coming up with these insults. This bitch should call Beth Ditto so they can vent on each other about Katy.

Team Jill! Jill has always had and continues to have more talent than most other singers/songwriters. I was tired of Katy's song after hearing it once - that never happens with a song by Jill. And lay off her - she was being funny obviously!

I can't believe you haven't heard of Jill Sobule!!! Were you living under a rock in the 90s? She and her song are all I can ever think of when I hear people talk about "I kissed a girl" (and BTW) Katy Perry's song IS offensive to actual lesbians. She is only kissing another girl at a club (or really singing about it in a song) because she knows all men have a girl on girl fantasy.
Damn, a lot of people hating on Katy these days. I personally like the song but got tired of it when being overplayed on the radio and MTV.

Also, she said herself in the quote, that this was the "first time in an interview" that she was going to let it out. I heard her on the radio talking about it and she was very classy and diplomatic. This must have just been one particular day where she was just lettin loose. Shit happens.

If anyone remembers Jill Sobule (and you're pretty lame if all you can say is "I don't remember her..she must be a nobody"), she always had a quirky sense of humor and never took herself seriously. The point here, is that there are ORIGINAL song titles not using simple words or phrases such as "breath", "I love you", blah blah…and that they stand out on their own, and were unique. If I put out a song called "Mr. Glockenspiel Rides a Moped" and in 15 years somebody came out with a hit by THE VERY SAME NAME, I would call bullshit on them, and be rightfully pissed off and ripped off!

Really? There are plenty of songs in the world with the same song title. And so many songs with the same damn concept. Just because Katy Perry also had some balls to make a song with the concept of kissing girls after Jill Sobule doesn't make Jill Sobule owner of it. When I first heard the title, I wondered if this New Kid On The Block had covered the Sobule version (a gorgeous, sweet song about genuine exploration of one's sexuality), but then heard the Perry version (a smutty, exploitative and fairly brainless tune with a film clip designed to get boys off). I'm not saying Perry isn't talented - she has a good voice and charisma coming out the wazoo - so someone decided to take her down a few pegs. GASP! Life's not all ass-kissing. Us normal people get insulted in the real world everyday. Deal with it. And Perez! Shame on you! Do your homework! She was on the Clueless soundtrack for crying out loud!

Re: Traci1 – haha, that's funny, i seemed to remember him mentioning jill's song way way back as well. guess this is a case of selective memory. anyway, the lesbian blogs have been comparing/analyzing these two songs ever since katy's first came out last year. and i'm guessing that last part of jill's interview was tongue-in-cheek. she doesn't really seem to be the bitchy, jealous type. personally, i like jill's song better because it deals with an actual exploration of sexuality rather than the "bicurious girls' anthem". but whatever, they're two completely different songs.
