Mariah's New Album ADS Up
If you haven't picked up Mariah Carey's new album, you are not alone. But now there might be a little more incentive if you do starting September 15th. The album is going to be reproduced with a brand new 34-page booklet attached.
Before you go saving your pennies thinking it'll be filled with Mariah's loveliness, hear this: it's actually going to be filled with ads!
Oh yes, Island Def Jams has found a new place to shove products - in the sleeves of your CDs.
Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel will be the first CD released with this new brand integrated booklet and the experiment is in conjunction with Elle Magazine.
In fact, the new booklet will look as if it was a copy of Elle, complete with a Mariah-centric editorial and full page ads from names like Elizabeth Arden, Angel Champagne, Carmen Steffens, Le Métier de Beauté and the Bahamas Board of Tourism.
As a consumer, we think this is nonsense. If we wanted a magazine, we'd buy one. Just give us our music and be done with it!
As a business, we think it's brilliant! It's the last place we would think of to throw an ad, but it also has a lot of potential! Plus, it'll help try to make up for the revenue lost due to illegal downloads.

Well, as a realist I think that this is a great idea for the industry. If the mass media cannot dominant the economy anymore, it has to inevitably find new means to that end, or else we'd have an even worse depression. I think that's economics 101. Nonetheless, the infinite space of the web DOES allow for new players in the mass media. You know, we now have Perez, Facebook, etc. and not just CNN and Oprah. It is therefore, a brilliant idea because it ,at least, has the possibility of maintaining the survival of the music industry. The idea will probably benefit local artists as well, if it gets big and widespread enough.
As a fan of pop culture, Go Mariah! I Love You! You can't go wrong! I love that you just know M&M as candy. Some are idiotic enough to believe that it symbolizes rap, hip-hop, and talent. Don't be shocked if you don't know that it only symbolizes those things if rap and hip-hop were practically synonomous with misogyny, sexism, homophobia, and to many extents, racism.

It's always the ones who say "do your research" who never do it themselves. Her CD was scheduled for an Aug 25th date, but was pushed back two weeks later. According to my calender, Aug 25th hasn't happened yet.
