Brad Pitt talks many topics in his new interview with Parade, but it his stance on Prop 8 that really has caught our attention. Take a look:
On when he’ll marry Angelina Jolie: “I have love in my life, a soul mate–absolutely. When someone asked me why Angie and I don’t get married, I replied, ‘Maybe we’ll get married when it’s legal for everyone else.’ I stand by that, although I took a lot of flak for saying it–hate mail from religious groups. I believe everyone should have the same rights. They say gay marriage ruins families and hurts kids. Well, I’ve had the privilege of seeing my gay friends being parents and watching their kids grow up in a loving environment.”
On the right to love: “It’s ridiculous that Prop 8 took away gay people’s right to marry! I have no understanding of that kind of hatred. Maybe it’s fear of difference or of the unknown. If you feel belittled, maybe you need someone else to belittle to feel powerful. It’s the only way I know how to explain it. You’ve got religion telling you what to think about homosexuality, about marriage. They say homosexuality is a choice, a lifestyle, something you can be cured of, and that isn’t true. But if you’re tucked away and have no friends who are gay, you’ll believe what the preachers say. Just think of it in terms of being in love–how would you feel if someone told you that you couldn’t be with the person you loved?”
On wanting the best for his children: “Would it bother me if a child of mine turns out to be gay? No, not one bit. Listen, I want my kids to live the lives they want to live. I want them to be fulfilled. I hope I teach my kids to be who they really are.”

I have a very good friend I went to college with who was raised by her mother and her mother's partner. She's one of the kindest, funniest, smartest, most considerate and creative minds I've ever met. I worked with her when she was acting as a director and she's also one of the most respectful people I've ever worked with while still being strong and able to speak her own mind.
My father is a judge and allowed two children, whose parents were drug users and created a very unhealthy, even abusive, environment to be adopted by two gay men (by "allowed" I mean he saw that while in foster care they truly bonded into a family and he likes to do little things to counteract bigots). They've gone from shy, even scared kids to happy, healthy, excited kids who are filled with joy rather than fear. And they aren't confused or scared about their two dads. They're just their parents. When asked if they were confused they responded simply "No, we call on Dad and the other Pop!".
It's hard not to laugh (and cry) when I hear people speak horribly of the idea of gay marriage or gays raising children. Sure there are some gays who would be bad parents same as there are some straights who are. But the arguments are flimsy at best.
And I'm personally with Brad. I know my gay friends and they wouldn't be at all offended if I did get married but at the same time I don't know how I could live with it knowing I'm exercising a right they're being unfairly denied.

I also can't understand the kind of hatred and evilness you have to possess to want to take away other peoples happiness when what they're doing doesn't affect you at all! He's from my State. I know the college he attended because it's a branch of mine. He is only 2 short credits from an arts degree. He was going into Advertising until he jumped into his car and drove to Hollywood. The rest they say is history. He comes back a lot. Got friends that know him and grew up with him. He's a nice man. Why people hate him so much I don't understand.

I don't think people who believe in traditional marriage believe that you shouldn't be able to love who you want to love…the majority of them anyway. I think people who believe in recognizing only traditional marriage have as much a right to their opinion as Mr. Pitt does of his belief in gay marriage. as a matter of fact i did grow up in a single parent family and from experience i can tell you that it is difficult, u of course have absolutely no idea about it unless you've experienced it so i gather ur the one who needs the education…if u look into it children who grow up with 2 parents (providing they are stable of course), grow up to be more stable in society than those who come from single parent homes. i've made and continue to make the best of mmy circumstances which i cannot change but i do wish i had grown up in a 2 parent (male and female) home. it would have made my life easier financially and emotionally!!
