Does Paramount Have Faith In G.I. Joe?

Doesn't seem like they do.
When Paramount's G.I. Joe: The Rise of The Cobra opens this Friday, not a single critic will have viewed the action flick before the general public!
The studio decided not to have a critic/media screening of the flick before its release.
But, why?
"After the chasm we experienced with Transformers 2 between the response of audiences and critics, we chose to forgo opening-day print and broadcast reviews as a strategy to promote G.I. Joe," says Paramount's vice chairman, Rob Moore.
Is that an indirect way of saying they've got a stinker on their hands and would rather not tarnish the film's rep before it even opens????

It just sounds like they don't want to have a bunch of prissy critics dump on their movie, which isn't the type of movie critics like anyway. Action movies rarely get favorable reviews, even as they rack up major box office.
Movie critics are like celeb blog writers - they have an agenda, they have prefereences and they aren't shy to show them off not matter how wrong they are!
Who cares. I'd still see it.

Critics shouldn't even be allowed at this sort of movie b/c honestly, who gives a fuck what they think on actions movies? It's a fun ride, that's the whole point of it. They dumped Transformers and it was fantastic. They dumped on Armageddon years ago and it was awesome. Critics don't get action films at all.
Honestly I when I heard that there was a G.I. Joe movie coming out I was psyched! But after watching recent previews & movie trailers it just doesn't seem like its going to be all that great.

Rottentomatoes.com shows 10 out of 11 critics so far have given it POSITIVE reviews for a 91% positive score.
actually, it already has a 91% fresh rating at rotten tomatoes, so some critics have already seen it
umm, if this was true, then why are there already 11 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, a very well-respected review site. And btw, they are all very good reviews, much much much better than Transformers.

did u read half the report? some critics have seen it. but they reserve the right not to show the assholes who will say it sucks just to say it. that, and they're not going for mainstream audiences, they want to grab the attentioin of others in middle america. most who have seen it, enjoyed it.

I think it is a smart move…there was a lot of bad noise for Transformers 2 and yet it flourished…critics and media like to demonize to get better press…Paramount made a good move to kill the buzz before there is real buzz. I will watch this movie and if I hate it, that doesn't mean it wasn't a good movie. Give them some slack, you can't please everyone but you can control the blasts before the boom.
I think it's more that critics tend to hate movies that audiences love. Why take the risk of ruining the film for people going? I hate reading how much a film supposedly sucked only to find out that it was awesome.
The buzz on the net is that this movie will suck. People are conjecturing about political correctness, inaccuracies and too much CGI. The trailers make one very cynical. I'm still going to see it because how do you know you won't like it if you don't see it. I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt for now and reserve my judgement until I see it. I won't be surprised if Hollywood screws it up. So far the best summer movies have been "Star Trek" and "X-Men Origins: Wolverine".
