Holy Crap! Jessica Biel Can Sing?!?

We're not saying she should get her dress ready for the Tony's, but Jessica Biel isn't totally offending our ears in her performance in Guys & Dolls shown here.

Biel starred in her first musical-theatre production at the Hollywood Bowl this past weekend as Sarah Brown. And we'll admit, she wasn't that bad.

But she wasn't great either.

      I saw the show at the Hollywood Bowl and I will say - she did a decent job of it. Truly, she couldn't hold a candle to Ellen Green. But what I appreciated the most was that she was really committing to it. She wasn't "oh, I do TV, this is so easy!" She was working it. I think it is something that if she continued to pursue and train for she could do fairly well. But Scott Bakula was AMAZING.

      Honestly - I don't care for it. She doesn't have a hideous voice (although, I'll agree that it's not great either). However, judging from this clip, she does NOT fit the part of Sarah Brown and neither does her voice. She's too brassy.

      Not bad, not great. She could have a decent Broadway career if she learned some breathing techniques. That's the only thing that really bugged me. She inhaled so loud and obviously, and at horrible times in the song.
      But with a bit of vocal coaching she could be pretty good.

      DON'T FORGET PPL- in this scene ("If I Were A Bell") Jessica's character Sarah Brown gets drunk for the first time in her life…hence why the singing/dancing is a little erractic. (That's why she keeps swaying around on stage). So, Jessica's doing what the part requires…it's not meant to played/sung/ perfectly during this scene. She's doing great.

      that scene is when her character gets drunk in havana, cuba. ((no joke!!)) so her voice is different that the rest of the show. its louder, and more 'all over the place'. my friend saw the show and said she was great tho (whilst the rest of the show was dissapointing)

      Having played the exact same part she is singing (Sarah Brown), I have to say she is singing it terribly. While her body language is excellent for this scene (she's supposed to be drunk for the first time in her life), she starts off way way too strong and boisterous. There's no build up or tension to the end. Not awful, but she definitely needs some more practice with a vocal coach.

      Musical Theater singing isn't just about having a vibrato and being able to belt. You have to have control, restraint, tension…oh, and talent.

      wtf?! perez, you think she could sing? I was in my school's jr version of guys and dolls and i sounded a helluva lot better than her. I know she is supposed to be drunk in this scene, but she is still supposed to sound half-way decent.
