It's True: Fox Confirms Paula Departure

Fox, FremantleMedia and 19 Entertainment have officialy confirmed Paula Abdul's departure from American Idol and released the following statement:
"Paula Abdul has been an important part of the American Idol family over the last eight seasons, and we are saddened that she has decided not to return to the show. While Paula will not be continuing with us, she's a tremendous talent and we wish her the best."
We love how they make it sound like they had nothing to do with her leaving, when we all know if they had paid up, she'd still be on the show.
But the question remains, if Paula really worth that much money?
Sources say Abdul asked for about $20 million to continue with the show. She even rejected a 30% raise which would have given her an eight-figure multi-year deal.
Whatever the amount was, we're betting it still wasn't as much as Ryan Seacrest's raise, which is probably why she declined.
So now we're stuck with boring Kara DioGuardi.
DioGuardi better loosen up or develop an alcohol problem a personality, because she's just too dull to fill the shoes of our beloved Abdrool.
Now what will Paula do?

SUCKS! Simon and Paula are the best part of the show. Randy and Kara are bo-ring. Simon gets paid a ridiculously huge sum of $$ and Paula gets discriminated against as a woman. I'm done with Idol out of solidarity.

I don't get why FOX kept Kara. They could've gotten rid of her and gave Paula her paycheck. FOX has money, they were just low-balling Paula.

well, i didnt watch last season because with the awful addition of kara, the magic just wasnt there anymore….and since fox has decided to keep kara and give paula the shaft i sooo wont be watching again this season…
this is prob just like what they did with louis walsh in X-factor when they said he was gone then brought him back in the first couple of episodes and pretended it wasn't planned.

Don't you get it? Adding a 'fourth' judge last year was all part of the master plan to rid the show of Paula. The extra judge affected the dynamics of the show and then by low balling Abdul's salary, all they had to do was wait for her to leave. No blood on Fox's hands.

Maybe if they would get rid of boring, annoying Kara and use that money to pay to Paula then they could keep Paula. I think it's a slap in the face to Paula. Fox can pony up the extra to keep Kara around and have the funds for that but they can't pony up the cash for Paula. I would feel betrayed if I was Paula.

The show never wanted her back. It was all planned from last season; Kara was hired to replace her. But not to create any backlash and tension, they decide to make Paula look like the bad person by acting like she's asking for too much.
It's sad, I hope NBC or ABC create a show like American Idol and Paula is one of the judges.

If you watched American Idol for PAULA ABDUL, then you're a fucking weirdo.
Abdul is more suited for So You Think You Can Dance anyways. She's a dancer who also sings. Kara can play multiple instruments, write her own songs, and sing…way better than Abdul. She might not draw ratings, but she's more qualified to mold talent into what record executives are looking for.

They should have let go of Seacrest because he is pretty useless anyway. Kara is not that bad, but it won't be the same without Paula. I don't get why Randy is still there though, because he doesn't offer much as a judge. But my fave is simon. But then again, the reason I watch the show is to see the contestants.

Correct or not, what I heard is that she was offered a $10 million total contract for three more seasons. Seacrest was said to have inked for $15 million per season. Who knows what the other guys get paid, so I'm thinking that $20 million figure might have been for the three seasons, so $6.6 million per, which comparatively doesn't seem outrageous. Women have this happen to them all the time. I've seen office managers who work for years becoming great at their jobs and so getting raises until a number cruncher waltzes in, lets them go and hires another girl just starting out for $8.00 an hour, while the first woman who really gives a shit gets thrown on the glue heap.
Hollywood actors unblinkingly get paid tens of millions for a few months work on one movie. If she's asking $6.6 million for a whole year's work, that's not greedy by Hollywood standards. I wonder what the guys all get paid.
