Big Soap Opera Move
ABC is playing musical chairs with it's signature daytime programming.
The Daytime division announced a big move for All My Children and One Life to Live : a bicoastal swap!
All My Children will be moving to El Lay, while One Life to Live will head east to NYC for production. The move will allow both shows to begin shooting in HD, but the reason behind the big change is somewhat of a mystery.
Perhaps All My Children brings in better ratings and, therefore, will now be given the 30% larger studio for it's production. Or maybe One Life to Live is more expensive, needing the tax breaks from NYC to stay afloat.
We're not sure, but we certainly are excited to have Miss Susan Lucci in our midst!

I am surprised the show is still on to be honest. Sure it was awesome when it started, but it has just been running too LONG. They already have spin offs to boot (America's Got Talent)! Once the icons of the show start leaving, it is time to call it quits. If American Idol had been thinking on their feet they would have done the "dying off" more gracefully. Now that they have lost one of the original 3 judges and replaced her with someone America clearly doesn't like, I forsee a quick drop in ratings.

Perez, your info is totally wrong. OLTL has ALWAYS been shot in NYC. I oughta know - many of my clients have appeared on the show over the years. the story is that AMC will move west and OLTL will now move in AMC's bigger studio.

Perez, consider hiring a fact checker for your column. These errors you are posting about certain things are becoming glaring. If you want to have a respectable gossip column, the news you post should be current and nearly error-free One Life to Live has been taping in NYC for the whole 40 years it has been on air. All My Children is moving to Los Angeles, but One Life to Live is staying in NYC and will move into AMC's old studio — in NYC.
You did not even understand the story. One life to live gets better ratings then All My Children. It is also a better show. The move is to reduce the cost of producing AllMy Children. One Life to live which currently also films in NYC at the same building as AMC will be moving to the set that AMC will be leaving, since it is a larger set.

You need to hire a fact checker Perez. "One Life to Live" currently shoots in New York, has always shot in New York, and will remain in New York. It is not making an LA to NYC move.
Im from the Uk and once saw a clip from All My Children and was horrified at how terrible it was. Cheese, cheese cheese cheese cheese. God, it was embarassing. You guys are supposed to make good tv shows.

Susan Lucci has lived in the same town - Garden City, New York - for her entire life. She graduated from Garden City High School, raised her family there. She is an institution. Hard to imagine her on the west coast.
As many posters have pointed out OLTL has always been taped in NY. With the move to LA many fans are concerned that their favorites may not make the move to Cali. Most of the big stars on the soap have spouses who make a living in NY and move across the country may not be that simple. It seems to many fans as a final nail in the coffin for this show and for soaps in general. People can make fun of them but they are an institution. Dallas & Dynasty, etc have datime soaps to thank for their success.

Some of you need to get your facts straight! ONE LIFE TO LIVE is NOT ALWAYS Higher rated now. All My Children has had been the number 1 soap on ABC for many weeks this year. All My Children is the ONLY Show on ANY network whose numbers have improved, even if in the slightest while others continue their downward spiral. All My Children was selected to MOVE to LA to give bigger better more elaborate sets. OLTL was going to but they think AMC has more potential to grow. OLTL will move into AMC studios which is bigger than there current.
As usual, Perez left out an important tidbit. The higher ups want the vets out or on recurring, including Lucci. They are hoping that some won't want to make the move to LA. I grew up AMC, but gave it up altogether 8 months ago. OLTL is waaaay better. If one has to go down the line, I hope it will be AMC.

You're an idiot! God do some research before you post your idiocy. OLTL has ALWAYS been filmed in NYC. They are moving to AMC's old studios.
AMC is not moving to LA just because of a bigger set. They're moving there to cut production costs. In NYC, AMC has to have their sets broken down everyday by the Union, which is very cost prohibitive. One of the reasons that you're seeing a lot of soaps based in NYC head outdoors, including As the World Turns (ATWT) and the soon-to-be defunct (Guiding Light) GL, is that it's cheaper to do this than to have all their set pieces up and broken down everyday. In LA, they can have a permanent set which will cut costs dramatically. There are actually 2 soaps that now currently film in LA: General Hospital (GH) and Days of our Lives (DOOL).
As for the veterans, no one has talked about dumping them off. Everyone who is on contract will remain with the show, if they choose to move. And Lucci could easily reach an agreement that is similar to Frank Geary from GH where she tapes for a few months, breaks, and then comes back. AMC would NOT be AMC w/out her. Also, most of the young actors on AMC couldn't act their way out of a paperbag (which is more than readily acknowledged in soap publications and blogs).
OLTL is moving to AMC's old studios, which will give it substantially more space than its current location. And it has been very impressive in the ratings pool and now easily bests AMC on a regular basis (especially in the all-important 18-36 demo). Many critics (including those @ Soap Digest) and folks in the soap world consider OLTL to be the most well-written and best acted soap on the air and their ratings are starting to reflect that. They also have the most diverse cast and aren't as youth obsessed as all the other shows.
AMC and GH (both ABC soaps) routinely go over budget. ABC daytime head honcho Brian is looking for ways to streamline production costs and this is one way of doing that.
One Life to Live isn't moving east. THey are in NYC and just taking over AMC's studios.
