Idol Will Still AD Up
Fox doesn't seem too concerned with any kind of backlash due to letting American Idol judge Paula Abdul go.
They still $ee tons of money coming in through ad sales despite the transition.
Experts, like Shari Cohen, who works for a company that buys ad time on TV, feel that the change will have no effect on viewership.
She adds, "To me, that show is appointment TV, and a lot of it is driven by the contestants and how compelling they are. I think the judges offer a layer of intrigue and allure, but it's really very much about how compelling are the contestants and does that draw viewers in."
Spoken like someone who doesn't love Paula Abdul. Part of the charm of the show was to see how drugged up wacky Paula would be and get through the course of the evening.
We think it will make a big difference in the long run. Perhaps not this season, as people will tune in to see how Kara Dioguardi fares, but trust us, it is only a matter of time before the show loses its edge.

paula was nothing more than a blithering idiot. watching her attempt to make sense was embarrassing. good riddance. the show will move better without her slowing it own to spout her drunken nonsense.
I think its time they bring someone different–it'd be a breath of fresh air.

Paula will be back. I'd bet this is all a publicity thing….
I just don't understand why they'd keep Randy Jackson and give Paula the boot. Paula's more interesting, and Kara is more relevant to the music industry today than Randy is. Randy just says the same five things over and over again. "It was pitchy," "for me for you," etc.
Paula is done hope she didnt cash all her checks for doing nothing on that stupid show.
They will miss Paula. Although Kara knows more about music, this is not the Kawanas Music Festival. Few people really wants to hear that kind of critiquing. As well, no matter if one of the contestants has a good day or a bad day, Paula is always supportive. When Simon has given his brutal opinion, Paula can always be counted on to show a bit of love and comfort. Kara is not touchy feely that way. Check out the "I just sucked on a lemon" look she gets on her face sometimes. Paula will be missed.
I am not a big Paula Abdul fan, but she was pretty comical to watch at times. And as far as it hurting viewership, I don't think her leaving will necessarily hurt it, but I think Kara will. If they are not going to have Paula, then they should at least find someone that people will like. Does ANYONE like Kara? Not that I have been able to find!
Anything that gets this piece of crap show off the air for good is a step in the right direction! I'm so SICK of hearing it's name.

Hate Kara with her nose stuck up in the air. Paula was a quirky, loose cannon. Her antics and craziness was AWESOME and honestly - how can you break up the family? They were the original 4. I honestly don't think I"ll watch.
I don't watch the show, and don't really care about her one way or another, but I think your comments are WAY out of line. Not to mention the stupid white markings on all your pics - they're getting tedius. I heard on the news or read in the newspaper (yes, some of us still read REAL news) that Posh, of all people, may be auditioning. Think she might smile?

I know III wont be watching anymore. I hate Kara. Randy annoys the FUCK out of me. I watched for Paula and Simon. And sorry, but Simon isnt enough to keep me watching through all of randy and kara's dribble…

I'm with Stepy - Simon and Paula made it interesting. I was already flip flopping, and watching less of it this season. I'm done.

I know they will bring in hot guest judges like Katy Perry & Posh, but they are messing with the chemistry that made the format a success to begin with. Paula did take a hard line with demanding $12 million, but I can see why she did it. She is (was) an important part of the shows success. She may be back though…I can totally see this as a calculated move for the slipping Idol ratings.
