Author Blows Movie Deal! Hates Channing Tatum!!!

Filed under: Film Flickers > Channing Tatum > Mickey Rourke

He's not THAT bad!

When the option to Phil Carlo's book The Ice Man: Confessions of a Mafia Contract Killer expired last month, the author denied renegotiating with Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

The reason? Turns out di Bonaventura was trying to woo Channing Tatum for the lead role.

Says Carlo:

"I had to turn him down. I really hated the idea of Channing Tatum. I told di Bonaventura that this is not the guy to play one of the most feared killers of the 20th Century. I think Mickey Rourke would really be good. He's got that sense of danger, and there's a similarity between the two. But it's not Channing Tatum."

The film follows Richard Kuklinski, a notorious contract killer who worked for the Gambinos and bragged about murdering over 200 men. He garnered the nickname Ice Man by blurring his victim's time of death by chilling their bodies in an industrial freezer.

If Mickey Rourke doesn't work out, what about Gary Busey?!

You may want someone that's almost really insane!

  7. 7

    hahaha

  8. 8

    gary! gary! gary!

  9. 9

I'm sooo glad someone feels the same way!!! Channing Tatum should not be doing action movies!!!! He only have appeal to girls not guys. He should be doing rom-coms.

  10. 10

With all due respect to Channing Tatum he really just doesn't have the acting to chops to pull it off. I wouldn't want my work destroyed by his acting either.

  11. 11

There's a role for a fatass squealer who is discovered to like sausage in the backdoor–perfect for u Perez

  12. 12

um.. dont u think the author, more than anyone else, knows how the characters HE created should be portrayed? Maybe is just me…

  13. 13

    Gary Busey would be good

  14. 14

I don't care what the stories are about, but there needs to be way more news about Channing just so I can stare at him more often. mmmmm

  15. 15

    suck it bitch

  16. 16

I don't blame the author. Channing Tatum is eye candy and eveything, but he's no serious actor for fucks sake.

  17. 17

Channing is hot… that's all that really matters. you don't have to be a good actor as long as you have fans…

  18. 18

I have to say that I agree with the author. He does not look like anyone in that kind of role. Producers need to remember that it's not alwasy about just picking whoever is "hot right now" for movie roles. They need to be a realistic portrayal too. I think Micky could pull it off. He was good in Sin City. Gandolfini is good but such a stereotype for him. What about the dude that got his nose broke in a pub brawl recently. Can't remember his name, but he alwasy plays an awesome bad gut and he's scary as hell. He was also in that movie with Stone Cold about hunting criminals.

  19. 19

He really is THAT Bad! Need proof? Watch GI Joe.

  20. 20

The guy that he would be playing was 6'5 and 300 lbs. He can't play this role…good for the author to have some principles.

  21. 21

My guess is that L diBon knows what he's doing.

  22. 22

I've never seen Channing Tatum act, but I find him extremely annoying just from seeing him in pictures. Most importantly, he's been in a lot of crappy movies. Maybe he can be a good enough actor if he works hard but this writer can choose who he wants to play the lead. BTW I've never seen Mickey rourke act but I find him annoying too, but Perez, Gary Busey?! Ha!!

  23. 23

he is not hot at all, cannot act worth saving his own life… why is he still being considered for movie roles? especially ones with an interesting sounding plot who could be performed so well by so many other actors.

  24. 24

hes not attractive, he just looks ordinary. like any other pretty boy. hell he looks like my first boyfriend for godsake. i dont know what is so fascinating about him. he cant act to save his life.

is that producer out of his mind to think he would be good for that role?

  25. 25

    CHANNING WOULD BE GREAT!!

  26. 26

i think Viggo would do the job wonderfully, eastern promises anyone?

  27. 27

I hear Busey is ready to knuckle Perez!

  28. 28

i agree ….but its not just about that now is it ….the people want sexiness too!!!!!!!!!!and that isnt mickey rourke…but he is a badassed actor!

  29. 29

I've seen that particular case profiled on one of those forensics shows. The real killer looking nothing at all like Channing and it would be completely absurd to cast him in the role. He doesn't at all look like he could believably pass for a mob hit man - lol. I can see why the author balked.

  30. 30

i love channing to death but really…he's not for the role…atleast…not yet.

  31. 31

    PAPACITO.

  32. 32

    channing tatum is not hot
    and he cant act

  33. 33

It's nice to see an author actually stand up for their book!!!!!
If onl J.K would have done the same for HP6!

  34. 34

Oh by the way, Channing is freaking hot.

  35. 35

    Re: Heart Of Me
The appeal of Channing Tatum is simple.
I'm a LOOONG time fan of his. And I can speak for women who are fans of his. He has this sexyness that makes you feel protected. Now now I know it's all in the movies. But women want a man who can beat someone up in your honor, and still be able to cry in front of you. Thats Cahnning. He has something about him that women find, (now please forgive me if I offend anyone) "Ghetto". Yes, he does look like that first guy you fell for!!!! But he's also able to hold his own in a fight. ETc… It all goes back to our primal desires. In a nut shell….Channing is soooo very yummy!!!! But he does need to work on the acting just a bit more. But I think he will get there. Any man that can dance like that has many props with me. Go Channing. Keep working hard!!! we all want to see you in the best roles for YOU!!! And Perez, you rock my sock darling. Can we say Genius?????

  36. 36

He's not bad looking at all.

  37. 37

I don't see him in that role, and I don't think he is a very good actor anyways. Mickey Rourke, absolutely could rock that, but I think Gary Busey could do it too actually. TEAM BUSEY

  38. 38

    Re: CammieBaxter

put the meth pipe down sweetheart and go get a life.

  39. 39

Wow, Cory Haim has lost some weight, is he planing a come back?

  40. 40

Gary Oldham, Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons or John Malcovich all kinds of good ones even Collin Farrel.

  41. 41

Gary Oldham, Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons or John Malcovich all kinds of good ones even Collin Farrel.Of course Joe Pesci would be the best choice…..

  42. 42

Bravo to this man for having some professional integrity and not being blinded by the $$$.

Channing Tatum is fine for any role with a simple plot that involves a lot of shirtlessness.

But for a film that requires true acting talent? HELL NO!

Honestly, I'm sick of every prettyboy actor thinking they're the next Brad Pitt or Leonardo DiCaprio - those men proved early on in their careers that they can act (What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Kalifornia), but clowns like Zac Efron need to step off & stick to rom coms!

  43. 43

For those of you who have no idea who Richard Kuklinski was, I can understand why this Tatum idiot might seem like a good idea. People should research and try to understand the reasons behind this. I am an author and if my books ever were made into a film I would be damn sure picking the lead actor, not leaving it to Hollywood types to choose. When you have a subject close to your heart that you have been working on forever, it's understandable that you would have ideas for the characters and actors playing them…Also, watching interviews with Richard Kuklinski you tend to see how someone like Mickey Rourke might be a good idea, though I am not a fan, I think that Lorenzo di Bonaventura should have been smart enough to watch the interviews and research before trying to cast Channing whats his face. We want out shit believable.

  44. 44

I Love Him!!He Is Fit As. And This May Sound Sad But If He Was In It I Would Watch It Just For Him…….

  45. 45

I read the book…no way can I see Tatum taking the role. I don't know if he has the acting skills or not, but I personally can't picture it.

  46. 46

Channing tatum of whatever the guys name is, is such a loser. Seriously, I don't think he's handsome, or smart, or a great actor. I'd do the same thing, I would HATE having him in one of my movies!!

  47. 47

I've heard one way to woo Tatum are promises to eat his hairy butthole on a regular basis on the set.

  48. 48

I WILL BUY A TICKET TO ANYTHING CHANNING TATUM IS IN!!!!!!!!!
    .
BUT… I THINK THE OBVIOUS QUESTION IS, 'HOW OLD IS THIS CHARACTER'?
    .
I MEAN… ISN'T THERE LIKE A 40 YEAR AGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CHANNING TATUM AND MICKEY ROURKE?
