G.I. Joe Owns The Box Office

Even with movie critics' low expectations, G.I. Joe managed to come out on top!
G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra pulled in over $56.2 million in ticket sales over the weekend, which secured the action flick's place at number one for the weekend and the fourth-largest August debut of any film ever!
2007's The Bourne Ultimatum still holds the highest grossing August open of all-time, earning $69.3 mil its opening weekend.
Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams, came in at #2 in box office sales for the weekend with a $20.1 million opening.
Not too impressive, but Sony expects the flick to pick up steam as the days pass.

I saw this movie the day it came it, and it is a must see. It is a really good movie. Its action packed and Marlen(however you spell his name) brings a little bit of comedy to the movie. I think everone should go see this movie. Its definitely one of my favorite movies to come out this summer.

I'm glad to hear it wasn't a flop. I was looking forward to seeing it until I heard the critics wouldn't get to review it prior to opening weekend. I thought that was a bad sign. I'll definitely go see it now.
I don't care how much money it makes. I won't be watching it. I learned my lesson with Transformers 2.
The same people that helped that crappy robot movie make over 380 million are probably the ones who went to see G.I. Joe.

Whoever told him he could act needs to be punched in the face (metaphorically of course)! The movie was well done put good ald predictable over-the-top Hollywood as usual! Kinda like Trnasformers!

Why isn't $20.1 impressive? For this time of the year and for that kind of movie that sounds like an excellent opening.

YES PEREZ IS VERY GOOD AT CHANGING HIS MIND AND FLIP-FLOPPING AS HE SEES FIT… AND THEN CONVENIENTLY FORGETS WHAT HE ORIGINALLY SAID.
I LOVED GIJOE. I didn't see Transformers 2 because I like my action movies to be more than explosions, tits, cgi fights.
GIJOE had all three, but also came with wit, style, and was just damn fun the whole way through. The kind of movie you enjoy every moment of and don't want to end. The dialogue was 400% better than expected, with classic lines from the cartoon series.
And, two words: SNAKE EYES.
When you have the guy who played Darth Maul, playing Snake Eyes, you have something worth seeing.
I liked it. It was a good movie.
I hated it. I mean it wasn't an awful movie, but, I dunno.. just not very good either. It reminded me a lot of the crapfest Fast & Furious movies.
The car chase scenes are interesting for the first 2 mins, but gets old VERY quickly after that.

The only decent thing about this movie is Channing although he isn't worth £12.50 ($20 for ticket only excl drink, popcorn etc) for a visit to a London cinema.
Funny. Didn't you say last week that this movie would make no $$$???? Not that we would ever expect you to admit you were wrong or eat your words.

The movie critics had low expectations because the movie's management didn't cater to their usual pre-release screenings. They should probably have avoided comment. This adds further nails to the coffin. Movie critics often have opinions and tastes different from most movie goers. What this means, is, they like a movie, you might not, or might like it for completely different reasons. They dislike a movie, you may well love it, but they want you to stay home or see something else. I think we've reached the point where movie critics aren't needed. At least not professionals. Hire average people, and let them review movies. Forget all these theatre-trained blowhards who don't like the same stuff we like.
First Transformers now this!! Where's the inspiration, where is the Art?? pffff LAME
