Says a source: "She's getting very nervous now that Whitney Houston is coming back."

Chris Lighty, the manager Mariah signed with four months ago, is remaining mum over the deets of the album!
Lighty would only say his company is "dealing with [Carey's] music, brand extensions and commercial opportunities" and that they "love Mariah," but when asked about the progress of Memoirs, Lighty said he was "at the beach," and couldn't be bothered to talk any longer.
Mimi also recently parted ways with her publicists.

This is not the first time these women"battled" it out. Ms. Carey & whitney released "1's" & "My Love Is Your Love" on the same day. Ms. Carey won that battle as her album debuted higher & went on to sell more copies. So even if whitney "wins" this fight the score will be even

Whitney Houston is SO going to squash Madonna and Mariah Carey this year. The "weakest" songs on Whitney's new CD are being released as singles FIRST, & I've heard the CD, it's monster. She has nothing but #1 dance jams on it. Wait until people actually hear her CD! She's also going to sweep the GRAMMYS in 2010. If I was Mariah I would wait until next year to come back out.

I think Mariah is the better artist overall, but she needs to leave the hip hop on the shelf and concentrate on singing serious music. When "Emancipation of Mimi" was heading for release, publicity emphasized "The Return of the Voice." The focus was on her being an artist, the music, her voice. What the fuck are they doing these days?!? It feels like the "Charmbraclet" days… not good.

Many have said MDB is the BEST song on the album. MDB is complete and utter crap…as is I didn't know my own strength and I look to you.
Notice how there is no Definitive first single from Whitney? Cause they know it won't sell. Whitney's entire upper register is destroyed. Her voice is shot and her single has stalled on itunes (coincidentally, the same single she "Gave away" from her site which they are going to use as the perfect excuse for it tanking. Meanwhile, MC's song has moved up again two places from last week. Mariah doesn't have anything to worry about. Neither one sounds that great these days, but Whitney's voice is complete toast now.

Well, ain't that the profound statement of the year. Did you really need a "source" to tell you that? As far as the rest of this story…there isn't one. Just sounds like someone making assumptions about something of which they know nothing.
As far as Whitney, love her, but didn't she have a previous "comeback" back in 2002 that was highly anticipated? That was when she released JUST WHITNEY, which was universally panned by critics and largely ignored by her fans. Sure everyone is expecting something different this time, since she's free of Bobby Brown, and supposedly clean, but I'm going to have to hear a little bit more from the upcoming album before I jump and down for her. Besides, these "battle of the diva" type of things are what usually drives sales for both parties…you should know that as a record company exec.

Re: jlenoconel – You're right on the money! I kind of thought that she would start singing more when I first heard Leona Lewis' Bleeding Love. At least it did remind me of when singers actually sang. Nowadays they do this rap-type thing where they sing-talk. It's all about beats and getting the song to get played at clubs.
If your people don't have your back, then you have to 86 them and get new people. I'm sure MC is scared for this new album. With the success of Eman. of Mimi and then the luke warm E=MC, she doesn't need another bomb. With the buzz of Whits album, Mimi doesn't want to be overlooked. But I will support her no matter when the album comes out because she is a legend.
Im glad Mariahs worried about Whitneys comeback coz this might actually make Mariah work harder and make a better album! I personally think that both albums will do well as they both have huge loyal following but from what I have heard from whitney album…….. i dont think that it will do well in the long run.maybe a good opening week but nothing more!

Whitney HAD a great voice, she could have (SHOULD have) sung opera. She would have learned how to CARE FOR her voice and not blow it out by singing all of those awful, over the top ballads. Her voice is DONE.

Mariah did not have Whitney's pipes. She couldn't have sung opera. Listen to all of those brutal caterwauling high notes Mariah loves. Sounds like a baby being hit with a cat. Those same notes from a trained voice sound clarion and perfect - not so bad it makes your ears bleed.

Mariah, Whitney and Hagdonna are all old, washed-out has-beens who can't carry a tune. All their CDs will flop massively. As we speak, Hagdonna's garbage, "Celebration," failed to crack both radio and the Billboard Charts. Her Greatest Flops CD is definitely headed for disaster.

Reasons why people hate Mooriah: this album is too soon after her last one, she always looks the same (crappy stylist) and her music is tired. Oh puleese, whitney and mariah no longer command the pop scene like before - that was soo 80s and 90s. Both of them have basically lost their voices and are trying to stage comebacks. I don't think their pop stature will be the same as before. My guess is that Mariah will not do as well as Whitney. Mariah needs to grow up - she's flaunting too much of her body for the world - it is as though her music doesn't matter ! Actually September is a diva month with Whitney, Mariah, Barbra, and Madonna releasing albums !

It's so goddamn obvious that when artist needs global media attention, they hit up Mariah, whether it be over good or bad things. Remember ODB, Puffy, even Jay-Z. Great acts but didn't have that global stamina until they worked with Mariah. I.E. Fantasy, Honey, Heartbreaker (these are hits that are over ten years old, about the span of the forementioned international popularity). This thing with Whitney is just another example. Mariah needs to go on OPRAH soon and SING! Maybe even give Perez a special VIP to the show. God knows thats the only way hell get on the OPRAH show. I dare you to mess with Oprah, Perez! your career will be over! lol.
