MTV Leaving Times Square!

It's the end of an era!

No longer will Times Square be bombarded with tween fans hoping to catch a glimpse of their favorite celeb. At the end of this year, MTV will be leaving their New York stomping ground that was once ground central for their live programming, the real estate agent for the studio confirms.

MTV's parent company, Viacom, could still make a bid on the studio location towering above 7th ave, but the likelihood of that happening by the end of the year is slim.

We kind of understand the change, as this past year marked the end of the show that made the location so popular: TRL. Without the flagship program, we gather it isn't worth having the space anymore.

Sad.

We'll remember it fondly!

So sad!!! I was on TRL and won a PS2 when Carson Daly was still the host a long time ago!! I think it was such a great, fun experience to see the studio from the street and so amazing to see the show taped live inside the studio. Such good memories and so much fun. They should make an MTV museum or something up there!! I wouldn't let that prime spot go!

well, considering the fact that MTV doesn't play any music anymore (live or video) …it is sad byt obvious…consider changing the name of the tv statiuon too…oh and please don't have any VMAs the past ones are an insult to the classic events they used to be

MTV has gone way down hill. They dont even show music videos anymore…I thought it was Music Television…Now all thats on is stupid dating shows and the real world (which has gone down hill to due to the fact that they pick sexed up crazy people instead of interesting people with actual intelligence) I was sad that TRL went away it was the show of my generation..leaving time square is just one more nail in the coffin.

I worked in that building when MTV/Viacom took a lot of it over and my company moved out as a result. But MTV changed the face of the neighborhood for the better. Sad to hear about the end of an era.

MTV can't do anything right nowadays. First they stop showing music videos, then they cancel TRL and now they won't keep that studio.
The only thing they care about is the money they make from shitty shows like The Hills.
They should go back to what made them big, the music.

MTV sucks now. I wasn't even born in the 80's but I can tell it was a fuck load better back then than it is now. All they air now is stupid reality shows and occasionally a music video, like even MTV2 which use to air rock videos and stuff all the time airs crap.
