who's the celebrity?? the coffee shop or the lap top…….?
BOO!
I don't blame them. Get a life.
Aw man! You too Cocoa Bar???
how are they losing money? I don't understand
Some people are running their businesses out of coffee shops on their laptops and you walk in there to find no empty seats I totally agree with the coffee shops restricting this shelfish behavior.
LAME!!! I'm a student and I would drink WAY less coffee at these expensive coffee shops if I couldn't use my laptop there and work on my thesis.
good for them. they will prob save on electric bills too! all those effing people asking for an outlet! cant wait for la to make the change!
why!….I go in coffee shops mostly for the free internet!
this is dumb, they're gonna drop it after many people stop going to their coffee shops
It's because the cost of living is so high in NY. Lots of people are struggling just to pay bills and live on the minimum. I spent the summer in NY and noticed a stark difference. People are struggling. Money is tight.
You wanna know what there's a big need for? internet cafes. I search all over for place that i could pay for internet use. I had to go to FedEx/Kinkos, which most of them close at 8 pm. Only a few are open 24 hours.
Oh no im devastated.
of course this was bound to happen - it's a smart business decision.
let's lay it out, most of these deadbeats walk in, buy a $2 cup of coffee, then leach internet and power all day.
meanwhile, people who come in and buy a $10 lunch have nowhere to sit. thus, next time, they go somewhere eles.
Yeah, because losers like you go in there for fucking nine hours and don't get up. Get a life and sit on the floor of your local Borders or Barnes and Nobles for a whole day without reading a book. FUCKING LOSERS. I hate people that do this shit.
Hey you can't blame them-A coffee shop is for drinking coffee and eating whatever-that's how they make money-Not for parking your ass down with a laptop-do that at work or home.
Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!
And theproblem would be….? They should do this. People are sitting there all day and ordering nothing. They should get 1 hour and that's it. Either that or buy something.
I was in a coffee shop the other day–10 tables (each a 4-seater) with a single person with a laptop spread out on each table. I got my cappuccino and stood outside. Do the math–one person nursing a latte for several hours or 4 people buying coffees; which i$ more???
It's either that or charge $20 for a coffee. Can't say that I blame them.
good, there is nothing worst than not finding a seat in wich to enjoy your coffee because some asshole is sitting there being all pretentious acting like they are doing actual work but instead they are reading the same email over and over again and they arent even drinking coffee
OH NO!!!! You mean to tell me losers and wannabe writers can no longer sit in a coffee shop for hours each day only buying one cup of coffee the whole time?!?! You mean to tell me that people will actually have to do their work or "writing" at home from now on?!??! Those monsters!!
I don't blame them either. Another solution would be to limit the use of laptop to one hour or something. I'm glad I don't live in NYC though. I love going to coffee shops with my laptop to write and stuff. But I don't stay there all day, you have to think of the other clients who just go there to sit down and drink coffee.
hahahahahahahahaha
good for them! stop those cheap bastards who cannot afford electricity and internet at their homes.
Wow you don't NEED to be on your laptop in a coffee shop. If you need internet that much go somewhere else.
Re: misterfister –
Amen to that!
they should! people really take the piss sometimes!
That or charge by the hour.
They should organize the coffee shops so that one section should be for just coffee/lunch people to sit, and have that area the biggest. The other section should be tables for just laptop users, and if all those laptop spots are full, too bad, plug-in somewhere else.
i would like to introduce people to the long forgotten … LIBRARY.
Re: SWEETPIECE! – Good one Sweets. I have 2 at home. And one at work. So I am always around them. I've never been to a place like that. But, I know lot's of college kids who do. Charge a slight fee for a
full day.
wish this happened in california. It gets annoying to walk into borders and 20 or so people are in coffeeshops, some of them giving you those eagle eyed stares for being in a bookstore with a real purpose.
Good for them! Why should they pay for the wifi for a bunch of lazy freeloaders who mooch off of others! If your life is so important that you need to carry your laptop around then stay home! No one cares anymore!
Table hogs? Buy something else or move on after a bit. Don't be a fungus.
They are doing it in San Francisco too!!!!!!! It was on the news yesterday
They say they're loosing money because people with laptops are taking up spots where customers would sit. One shop in SF has a "no laptop time" from 11am-2pm…
Umm, yeah, because you have 'hip' morons sitting there all day so people can watch them work, drinking one or two coffees all freakin' day. This makes total sense. Don't be sad because you're one of these morons Perez.
I hope this doesn't spread to my city. I understand giving the boot to people who only buy a single cup of coffee and sit for hours, or pack their own food. (WTF? Most restaurants would kick people out for that.) But I think it's unfair to apply this to everyone, especially if the place isn't busy. Because of the limited library hours and locations in my city, coffee shops are the only place that I can go to write and do my homework, and while I may be there for several hours, I also purchase multiple beverages and food items. If I'm willing to "pay" for the right to be there, why should I be cut off? It costs ten cents to power a laptop for 5 hours - if that's such an issue, I'll pay the ten cents to power my laptop, and I'll throw in another dollar for the Wi-Fi even if I don't use it. But it's unfair to punish everyone for the abuse of only a few.
what a hard life, huh?? where are you going to write all this celebrity crap?? guess you need a house
that sucks!
I can see that..
