The Rock Does Something Good And It's Not A Movie
It's always nice to see celebs trying to help others.
And Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is taking that to a national level.
The wrestler turned actor has just been named as the new ambassador for the Diabetes Awareness Campaign.
According to Johnson's new public service announcement, he urges everyone to "Get outside. Play a game. Do something active together." Adding, "We can make a difference in our own families through exercise, eating right and teaching healthy behaviors to our children."
The campaign is aiming to reach out to the 24 million Americans living with diabetes, and hopefully help the estimated over 6 million who haven't been diagnosed yet.
Johnson adds, "I'm honored to serve as an ambassador to the Diabetes Aware campaign, and I want to encourage families to be active and eat right. Small steps can go a long way in managing diabetes, its complications, and raising healthy, active children."
Let's hope the campaign helps to bring awareness.

maybe if american's weren't stuffing mickey D's, BK, Wendy's and all the other junk they eat we wouldn't have so many cases of diabetes and obesity. I hate it when i see overweight children - there's absolutely no need for a 6 year old to be 80 lbs…….

not the nick jonas wouldn't approve (or that i care either way) but staying active wouldn't have prevented his diabetes. the diabetes that this advertisment is trying to get awareness of and prevent is type 2.
type 1 is an incurable genetic disease, whereas type 2 is the result of obesity and can be cured by diet and exercise

Exactly!! My 7 yr old son was diagnosed with Type 1…. diet & exercise cannot help him! I wish the media would tell everyone this is about Type 2. Does The Rock had diabetes??

Re: chrisbee – Thank you for saying that! Everytime I say "I'm diabetic" to someone, they always reply with "But you don't look obsese…" That's because I have type I or juvenile diabetes. Healthy diet, or an active lifestyle couldn't have prevented me getting diagnosed. I wish more Americans would open their eyes and realize that adult or obese onset diabetes isn't the only one! Geez!

Joe Jonas as a different type of diabetes (type 1). The Rock's message is meant to help prevent Type 2 diabetes. They're different diseases, one you get through bad luck (Joe) , the other you get as a combination of bad luck plus lifestyle issues (90% of other diabetics).

NO! Nick Jonas would not totally agree! Its campaigns like this that tell people that type 1 diabetes is related to be being active and eating healthy! When in reality the type of diabetes that Nick Jonas has is not the same as type 2 diabetes which is clearly what this ad is about!
