Les Paul, the musician and inventor who changed the course of rock music, passed away from complications due to pneumonia at White Plains Hospital on Thursday.

As an inventor, Paul developed the electric guitar and multitrack recording, which allows artists to record different instruments at different times, sing harmony with themselves, and balance tracks afterward.

He garnered 36 gold records and 11 No. 1 pop hits with his wife, Mary, from 1949 to 1962, and won two Grammys for Les Paul & Friends: American Made, World Played, which was released after his 90th birthday.

Paul's family and friends were at his bedside at the time of his passing.

He was 94 years old, yet his legacy will live on forever.

almost every musician owes this man respect… he created multitrack recording! that is one of the biggest innovations ever in music period. without it you probably wouldn't hear any of the creative music you hear today much less have cd's and mp3s. protools and all the programs i use and many people do wouldn't even be here. wow what a man. rest in peace les!
