Tony Danza Goes Back To School - To Teach!

Is he even qualified for this?!
Tony Danza will begin co-teaching a 10th grade English class at Northeast High School in Philadelphia this fall.
But, not for a gratifying career change!
It will part of the new reality series, Teach, on A&E.
Shouldn't they call it Co-Teach?!
"I'm so scared. You have no idea," says the former sitcom star. "I can tap-dance, but I don't know if I can make kids learn yet."
If you want kids to learn, maybe you should have gotten your teaching credentials like everyone else?
He'll have his hands full!!
The school district is full of struggling, low income students, in which only 50% are considered proficient in reading and math.
Mayor Michael Nutter believes that the show would give students new opportunities, including production internships on the show!
Not only will they will be distracted by cameras and mics, but instead of studying, these underprivileged kids can work for free!!!
The mayor says, "I believe that 'Teach' represents a unique opportunity to highlight many of our city's dedicated teachers and administrators, and the talented students they serve."
And for them to get PAID!!!
Pending a decision by the school board, 13 episodes will be shot and $3,500 per episode, plus expenses, will be in their pockets!
"My goal is to really be a good teacher," sayz Danza. "If we can be really real about it and really honest about it and put the kids first and really show what a teacher goes through, it might be something that is a positive."
Positive like an Emmy nomination?!
Doubtful!

WH0 DA FUCC iS THAT?!
Im the boss!
haha jk
But really. I didnt know hed aged so much
hah I honestly think that one day they won't even care if you have teaching credentials.
I think this could work. And motivate these kids.
HAHA! In all seriousness, that is the high school that I went to. He should be very, very afraid
As a teacher and a tv junkie (like I wrote in my email to A&E), I am so psyched to watch this show. I like Tony Danza (especially his the rant Howard Stern sometimes plays), but he's not the reason I am pumped about this show. I love the idea of cameras in the classroom. Wish there were more so people can see what happens in schools.
hey, Tony is looking good for his age and he doesn't even look like he's been hitting the botox. ha!
do your research Perez he has a B.ed
Well he didn't age well….
How about this for an idea Perez, why don't you applaud people who are actually trying to help the youth instead of being your usually misogynistic, bigoted, racist, self-hating self. There's an idea you can write about.
From what I recall, he does not have the best vocabulary or grammar, so maybe he should teach gym class instead.
i don't like this; these kids shouldn't be exploited like that. they should be taught by properly credentialed teachers. kids' brains and futures, ESPECIALLY if they come from challenging circumstances, should NOT be up for sale.
so you're not qualified to be a blogger yet you are so STFU
Re: tigrrrlilly – shut up
Education is the true key to success! Respect your teachers for all that they do to make your lives better….they certainly don't go into the teaching profession for the big bucks!
Wow! TONY looks ancient!
As a teacher who actually WENT TO SCHOOL to LEARN HOW to be a teacher, I think this is ridiculous. How could kids possibly learn when they are distracted by a clown like this?
Michael Nutter…huh, huh…
haha have fun in Northeast Philly, dude… google Philly school violence and see how many hits pop up. I heard two states turned down the request to let Danza co-teach; is that why they didn't get a suburban school? PA probably let them have one of the Philly schools for a fat payoff
Re: Espereza – I was totally abhorred to read this post, but your comment made me wonder, too. I'm 29 - I wonder if schools are different now? I had this old grouchy teacher who taught science. In the lab area, everyone would take turns toking on a joint w/their heads in the cabinet. he'd always walk back and say "who's burning stuff back here," but never did anything. what would tony do?
Plenty of schools have teachers who are not certified. Private schools and charter schools can be known for providing an excellent education with teachers who only have life experience. I can think of TONS of inneffective teachers who are certified. A degree helps, but it is not the deciding factor in who is a good teacher.
As a teacher who put in years of education and training, I am a firm believer of giving students opportunities and it sounds like he will be providing that! Extra funds for the school and maybe even scholarships or internships for kids that truly need it! I agree that he probably will not provide an ivy league education, but what first year teacher does? That is not what these kids need anyway! Bring it Tony Danza! I hope you treat teaching with as much enthusiasm as you do TV!
Re: tigrrrlilly – Do you have kids? I certainly HATE it when my kiddo comes home from school with another GODDAMN fundraiser catalogue. THAT'S exploitation. I kinda think cameras in the classroom should be standard for all public schools, and might be a good idea. there are perv' teachers, and lying little shit thieving kiddos, and then the good ones who don't receive free lunch… I do agree that teachers should be qualified, but co-teachers were around classes ALL the time when I was a kid. They were in training and had ZERO experience. I don't see a prob' w/it.
Re: g.babyl0c805 – Perhaps he was your ENGLISH teacher…
Not ready to see him go grey just yet.
Dayum he has aged.
What a nose. He looks like Rudolph.
Northeast is my school! And I'm proud of it. :]
Our school may be low income but it is absolutely amazing. There is so much talent and intelligence at Northeast, to be honest. Tony couldn't have picked a better school to co-teach at. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what happens with him this year. He came to the school towrads the end of the school year to check it out. I met him personally because I'm in the select choir and he came to hear us sing. He was very friendly and excited to be in Philadelphia. I'm hoping this year will be a wonderful experience for both Tony and us students!
Re: sillybritty – He really can't be any worse than those who "got to school to learn how to be a teacher". High school teachers are some of the dumbest and most arrogant individuals I have had the displeasure of meeting.
Most high school teachers end up teaching b/c they have FAILED at what they really wanted to do (and most everything they have tried). They are also used to bossing around KIDS all day long which turns them into complete arrogant control freaks in life. Horrible!
oh my goodness he looks a mess!!
When I asked my school for permission to videotape classes (to document/lessen behavior problems), I was told there are strict laws preventing videotaping students during educational time.
I'm a teacher. You are an actor. You do not know how to teach. Please do not insult us by acting like you can step in and do it. Go to college like we did and get paid a paltry sum to mold the children of the future.
I don't know if anyone else said this already (didn't read every comment) but just wanted to let you know that Northeast High is not an "underpriveleged" school, it's very middle class. BUT, it's ridiculous (and kind of embarassing for us Philadelphians) that Tony Danza is being allowed to do this.
Just curious as to whether or not "Perezhilton" has ever even seen this part of Philadelphia in order to make accusations of an "underprivileged & low income" high school. Your research was has fallen short with incorrect information. Northeast is a diverse community with ALL types of people and I'm grateful for being exposed to both the education and environment. While I don't agree with the exploitation of students, this may be a great thing for ANY school. Students need change & challenges to keep them eager to learn & who's to say Tony Danza is any less of a teacher.. and while I'm bitching.. why do people take the time and energy to PURPOSELY misspell words, thinking it's a cute way to type? Where did YOUR education come from!?!?…a "teacher"?
Re: ducky6 – That means he'll fit right in
Did you see how he treated that news lady who was doing an interview with him. Hope he's more respectful to education.
Jeez pervez, sort of reminds me of all of your "qualifications" as an actor, writer, promoter, designer,..ad nauseum.
Damn Tony…run out of 'Just for Men'?
This is the school I went to. It's NOT in a bad neighborhood, and it has the same issues as any other high school. Get your facts straight Perez. NORTHEAST Philly is completely different than the Philly you hear about on the news.
———- The school district is full of struggling, low income students, in which only 50% are considered proficient in reading and math. —————
UMMM… THE SCHOOL DISTRICT IS, BUT HE'S GOING TO BE TEACHING AT ONE OF THE BEST PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN THE CITY. NORTHEAST PHILLY IS GOOD. IF HE WAS TEACHING IN WEST PHILLY LIKE I HAD TO AT ONE POINT, THEN THAT WOULD BE A REALLY FUN REALITY TV SHOW. TRUST ME ON THAT.
TONY'S IS A JERK.. WE SAW HIM AT A RESTAURANT YRS AGO AND SAID HELLO TO HIM VERY POLITELY. HE COMPLETELY TURNED AWAY AND IGNORED US.. HE'S A NOBODY WITH A SOMEBODY ATTITUDE…
