Sad news for the members of the rock band Lit and their fans.

The band's drummer, 39-year-old Allen Shellenberger, has passed away.

Shelleberger passed away on Thursday after a battle with brain cancer. He was originally diagnosed back in May of 2008 with a Stage 4 malignant brain tumor.

Unfortunately the tumor was inoperable, but he didn't give up and tried combating it via radiation treatments and chemotherapy.

As for Allen's music career, he played his last gig while on tour with Sugar Ray and Everclear last fall.

Mark McGrath even released a heartwarming statement saying, “Allen was a great drummer, but more importantly a great human being. His courage and positive outlook during his battle with cancer was an inspiration to us all. He will be missed dearly by a music community he helped enrich, and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and my friends in LIT.”

As for Allen's friend, No Doubt's Adrian Young, he added, “We’re deeply saddened by Allen’s passing. It’s a difficult moment but we take comfort in remembering how much he loved being in Lit, loved being a drummer and that he saw his rock’n'roll dreams come true. Our thoughts are with his family, bandmates and loved ones.”

Sad.

This is old news. It happened last week. Why was it not important then but important now? Kinda looses the sincerity.

i had the chance to meet the band lit, talk to them for awhile, after a show about ohhhh 10 years ago, at the peak of their popularity. they were all amazingly sweet, friendly, laid-back guys, including allen. it's a shame they ending up being a bit of a one-hit wonder, they were a really great band.

Allen was such a great, real down to earth guy. I'm blessed that I was able to know him, even if it was for so short a time. It's too bad that it took three days for this to be posted here. But I guess if you don't die from a drug overdose, it's not big news. Allen is considered one of the best by others in his industry.
As for his band being a "one hit wonder", I have to "wonder" what the heck that poster is talking about. Way more than one Hit.

thats sad=( the chemo is what kills you,I'm sure cancer is curable(B17,alkaline) , its just our bastard evil eugenicist gov't doesn't want us to live a healthy long life, they hate humanity, just look at Obama , the man walks around with talismans in his pocket, and it just came out in mainstream media Michelle Obama's mother practices Santeria(black magic/witchcraft),it doesn't surprise me one bit, once you realize u.s. gov't is comprised mostly of freemasons, which is based on Kabbalah(witchcraft)which was learned by the jewish slaves of the ancient Egyptians at the time of the Pharaoh who were straight up luciferian, and that fact is skewed in the educational system by calling it Egyptian mythology, its no myth, its just a secret, just look at fame whores Lyndsey Lohan and Riarhea both have SHHHHH tattoos on their finger, its no coincidence.

Re: YUCK – Firstly, you obviously know nothing. Adrian was a VERY good friend to the Lit family as well as Allen. Not only did they tour together many times, Adrian filled in for Allen several times when he was too sick to play. I hope you're happy.

Secondly, It really disheartening that it took Allen passing for you to finally post something (nearly 4 days after the fact). Shortly after he was diagnosed, I emailed you to get the word out to raise awareness. Nothing. I emailed you asking you to post information on a fundraiser being held at his Gym in Arizona. Nothing. I also emailed you to post information on an e-bay auction his Lit brothers put together to raise funds for Allen's medical bills, and….. NOTHING.
On that note, take some time. Research malignant glioma. Do something to help all the other people fighting the same battle. Donate, Research, Volunteer, Spread the word, Anything.
R.I.P Allen. To any of those who knew him, he truly was one of a kind. Prayers to his Daughter, Family, Those he considered family (Jeremy, AJay and Kevin), his Friends and Fans.
