Robert Downey Jr. To Vamp Up

For those of you who feel like Twilight is too pansy for the vampire lore and Robert Pattinson is too sparkly to be scary, then get ready, because Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles is making a comeback to film, and the leading man is to die for!
Robert Downey Jr. is in heavy talks to play the vampire Lestat, a role made famous by Tom Cruise in Interview With The Vampire, in a prequel explaining Lestat's origins. The only problem we can foresee is that Rob might just be a little long in the tooth to play the role, as Lestat was changed at the mere age of twenty-something.
But we wouldn't mind the discrepancy for a chance to see this Rob fang out.

Lestat is young, blonde, beautiful and irresistible to everyone. Robert Downey is a wonderfully gifted actor. Handsome, witty, and hysterically funny when need be. Unfortunately, I don't see him as Lestat. Another mis-cast because of the bean counters.

Lestat was beautiful!!! With all my respect to RDJ, who I admire immensely, he was and still is handsome, for his age. But he was never beautiful. Lestat is beautiful and young.
Sounds like they'll be doing The Vampire Lestat which in my opinion is the best book in the series. Adult entertainment, not the teenie-bopper crapfest that is Twilight.
ANyone would do a better and a more credible job playing Lestat than Tom Cruise.

Yey Anne Rice is back. And a message to the annoying twilighters; Anne Rice has been writing way before Stephanie Meyer and her books were turned into movies way before Twilight; so don't say she is copying. Stephanie Meyer just ruined the whole vampiric mythology. Anyways I don't imagine Robert Downey playing Lestat, if only Heath Ledger was still alive he would have been perfect for the role. Well, after seeing him in Fur with Nicole Kidman I don't think he plays a scary, freaky monster very convincingly. Something about those big brown eyes, he's just too sweet and adorable to be a creepy dead thing IMO

Y E S ! A GREAT casting choice. Especially now that he's off the drugs, Downey is one of our best actors. I am really glad for him and admire his eventual strength

Robert Downy Jr is a great actor, don't get me wrong. But I think he's all wrong for the part of Lestat. But then again, Stewart Townsend did butcher the character as well. Still, I think Jr is more of a comedy actor and he doesn't have what it takes to play Lestat right. BTW, why is he in EVERYTHING now?

Actually it was Stephanie Meyer who didn't come up with original ideas, since vampire books and movies had been out for ages. Pity though that people care for Stephanie Meyer's work since she butchered everything that is known about vampires.

Had a discussion about this on IMDb..was thinking Jensen Ackles could "Young" up enough for this role and he's a great actor.

He's got the basic frame to work with. I think he could play Lestat , I could really see him being all ageless and creepy. The effects people can make him look any age, remember? It takes an actor to bring this part to life. I just can't see Cam Gigandet pulling this one off; Lestat only looks young but is centuries old. It doesn't seem right that the last actor who played him was illiterate, either.

I actually really like Tom Cruise as Lestat. I think it's the only thing he's ever done that I have liked. And please…I love Robert Downey Jr, but this is not the role for him. I seriously think they should have me cast this one… Half the reason i couldn't sit through Queen of the Damned, besides the fact that they made their own movie and slapped the books title on it and retained next to nothing from the book…was Stuart Townsend as Lestat. He looked good, but he wasn't Lestat, he was just another vampire. Tom Cruise was Lestat. The full, wavy blonde hair, the gray, almost violet eyes, the nose even…then there was the voice aw man… this better not fucking disappoint me.

Lestat is the all time best vampire. RDJR could do Lestat. He would need botox and airbrushing, but he has the persona.
RDJr should not play Lestat. I think they should keep Tom Cruise as Lestat. RDJr is only 2 years younger then him. And he was the original Lestat. Please don't ruin this book with him playing Lestat.
Lestat is 20 years old!! If you're going to get RDJ to play him you might as well hire tom cruise. At least he played that character before and did well. Also, it doesn't appear as if he's aged since then either so I'm sure he'll fit right in.
The Vampire Lestat was the best book of the series and I was annoyed that they skipped right over it to do a *REALLY* disappointing version of Queen of the Damned. IWTV was done soooooooo well!! It was very close to the book and had a fab look and score. If they're going to bother reviving interest in Anne Rice and turning any more of books into films then I hope they don't screw it up. If they do this right it could be quite enjoyable and there are a few books to the series as well, to make them some $$ after they run out of Harry Potter stuff to film.
